The Addams Family
Snap-snapping to the rules of the 21st Century
Grade- C+
“You were right, mon cherie. People can be so cruel.”
Clearly, Hollywood is running out of ideas. It’s been remake after remake. Adaptation after adaptation. Prequel after sequel.
Adapted from comics into television in the 1970’s and later into film in the early 1990’s, The Addams Family, served as the ultimate satire of the suburban, white picket fence, apple pie families. Gomez and Morticia put Justin & Hailey Bieber to shame as the ultimate #couplegoals, caring parents who were deeply in a love that refused to lose its hot black spark. Wednesday and Puglsy had troubles fitting in with the blonde, blue eyed popular kids, but found solace and friendship in the outcasts. And Uncle Fester was well, Uncle Fester.
Conrad Vernon (Shrek 2) and Greg Tiernan (Sausage Party) co-direct the first animated film of The Addams Family, and like what the Power Rangers did in 2017, the film gets lost in being modern to the endless complaints and hashtags of the 2010’s. In comparison to the films of the 1990’s, there is little focus on the love between Gomez (Oscar Issac) and Morticia (Charlize Theron). Instead, the relationship between Morticia and Wednesday (Chloe Grace Moretz) is emphasized as the latter is going through her bratty, rebellious teenage years, while her Mother can’t let go of their childish bond. The primary theme is bullying and rejection of the unfamiliar as the family battles the aptly named suburban of “Assimilation” from trying to, well, assimilate them. This was obvious in the 90’s films in a satirical fashion, but is shoved down our throats in a typical 2019 kind of way.
Say what you want about the man, but Michael Bay took what millennial's enjoyed as kids and pumped it full of steroids, without a care in the world about teaching school lessons to Gen Z (and whichever generation is now under 10…). THAT is how you remake something from the fabulous, cheesy, over-the-top 90’s.
Hollywood; Entertain and please the audience of the jaded, corrupted-far-too-young, adults of the 1990′s. We have money, now, that we’re sick of spending on another Backstreet Boys reunion!
I love reboots and remakes. And I've loved most of the ones we got so far, like Hey Arnold! The Jungle Movie. According to ratings, no one else did, though - and I think I know why.
This movie was classic for the late 90′s. I saw this movie in Orlando Florida at the AMC theater in Universal. This movie beings back a lot of memories for me because it reminds me of the Mary-Kate and Ashley cruise that i took with Sail with the Stars. Anyways i love the comedy in the movie and it was just really fun and enjoyable to watch.

When we heard that there was a Baby-Sitters Club reboot coming to Netflix back in February, we instantly dusted off our copies of the beloved Scholastic book series and called our friends on our landline, because we knew this reboot would be totally epic. Dare we say it’s a “super special“? N…

AAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!
It was only a matter of time before they'd bring him back from 1998.
