Remember u guys love me, okay?
From that fateful day (and night), Hero and Villain started a little dance. Maybe Hero conviently lost the Villain in the pursuit of arresting him and she returned to the Agency empty-handed.
Now, being the Hero, and being the Villain, they knew the city like the back of their hands. They knew where the shadows were, they knew places to go where no one would see them.
Nights grew longer; watching the moon from Villain's apartment window, walking the park across from Hero's house.
Villain felt every second of it. He cherished the feeling of Hero's soul, he soaked in every smile, every laugh, every haunted tale.
As the days turned into months, Villain felt Hero's attraction turn to lust, their lust turn into pleasure, their pleasure turn to affection, and ever so slowly, their affection turned to something they were too scared to name, too overwhelmed to deny.
And, as their connection grew, Villain was able to feel the Hero from wherever he pleased. Call it possessive or overprotective, but Villain would tap into her emotions all throughout the day, to feel where their head was and try to guess what was happening, to make sure she was okay.
He silently hoped one day he would feel her think of him.
One day, though, he felt her emotions push past his mental barrier without his initiation. Fear. Shame. Anxiety. Panic.
He suddenly found himself racing through the city. No one would make his Hero feel that way. He had to make sure she was okay.
Hero stood in Superhero's office, breath and hands shaking, heart racing as Superhero stood, voice lethal, "You know what your job is. What you promised. What you're here to fucking protect. You dare betray these innocent people, their lives, their children, their trust?! For what?! The enemy! The damn enemy, Hero!"
"–How can you even call yourself a hero?! How can you look yourself in the mirror? I will not stand for this level of deceit, of blatant back stabbing. You know the consequences."
"Superhero, please! I swear i never meant it like this! I know its– WAIT!" Hero started panicking when Superhero drew their gun, lifting it. Hero took steps back, lifting their hands, tears in their eyes.
"Oh, don't make this harder than it needs to be. You know what you were fucking doing. Don't try to give me any half assed excuses. You never cared about this city or anyone at all besides yourself."
The sight of Superhero pulling the trigger was all they needed, Hero flung herself to the ground, narrowly dodging the bullet. What if she died without telling Villain the truth?
What if she died and never got to see him again? She could live with not being a hero, she could live with becoming the enemy. But him, she could not live without.
As she lifted her head, Superhero stood with a smirk, eyes locked on something behind her.
The world seemed to be slow motion as she heard the choked inhale behind her. She turned just as Villain's knees hit the floor.
Red seeping through the shirt on his chest, his eyes wide and locked on the smoking gun before him.
The one who made his days brighter, his nights warmer.
The one who made him want to be a better man.
The one who made him feel human, who made him feel loved despite it all.
He felt the moment her heart shattered, and maybe it wasn't the bullet that shattered his at all.
Maybe it was the tears in her eyes, the gut wrenching despair that broke her soul. Maybe it was the feeling sinking deep in his bones that she might have to continue on without him, that he may not exist in the same realm as his light.
Hero rushed to his side, sobs shaking her body as she cradled his, her hands quickly putting pressure on the wound, "No, no! Villain! V-Villain, listen to me! Listen to me, baby, y-you're gonna be fine! It's okay! You're fine, okay?"
"Y'know, maybe i will let you live, give you time to think this one over." Superhero's voice came from behind her, but she couldn't even register it in the moment.
Not when his blood was pooling around her knees, not when his beautiful face was turning pale, his eyelashes getting closer to his cheeks. "N-no, baby, c'mon, c-c'mon, keep your eyes open– hey! Hey, look at me, okay? You're gonna be fine, you cant– you cant leave me, okay?"
Seconds felt like minutes as time bled on, Villain's body turned cold. Hero couldn't let go of him, she wouldn't leave him, couldn't leave him. Her head rested on his chest, her sobs echoing through the empty room.
"I love you." She whispered with a finality more eternal than the death she held in her arms.
