Assembly Required. I'm assuming it's Marvel, but what exactly?
It's a Young Avengers centric part of my 'A Family Of Spies and Superheroes' Marvel fic series that is gonna need some MAJOR tweaks if I ever end up posting it.
90% of the reason I started writing that series at all was that after seeing 7yo Cassie Lang in AntMan I really wanted to have ALL of the Young Avengers as children in the MCU. And was originally planning on the series being completely AU after AoU, or at least having the kids kinda be off screen - existing completely outside the main storyline but never directly involved in it. But then I started adapting storylines, and actually following canon in some places, and then I decided to wait to SEE how the MCU was going to bring certain characters in before doing so myself, and now it's been almost 6y since I started the series and 5y since I first came up with Assembly Required, and only now am I re-visiting certain aspects of it (thank you WandaVision)
It was intended to be an immediate sequel to Little Hawk (8/9yo Kate Bishop being raised by Clint and Nat) with the also abandoned Soul and Mind as an interlude to introduce the Minimoffs and Jonas before Assembly Required began. The fic summary I have at the top of the document is:
After the Avengers were assembled but before the Young Avengers first did they were just little children. Little kids who wanted to be superheroes.
It's only a handful of drabbles and a loose outline, of Cassie, Kate, the Minimoffs and Jonas being childhood friends, having superheroes for parents, and in the boys' case learning about life and the world (and Billy and Jonas being way too observant for their own good.) And I was planning on having it expand further to include more and more of the younger heroes such as Teddy and Eli, and once they began to be introduced Viv and Vin, whether the MCU saw fit to bring them in or not, but the fic series changed directions on me a bit and so most of Soul and Mind, Assembly Required and Red Rover have had to be shelved. These are my two favorite sections of it though:
A pair of eyes opened with a start as the small synthezoid took in his reflection in the glass above him. He had had a nightmare. Or rather saw some of the darkness in the world as his consiousness roamed. A faint metalic hiss filled the room as his cradle opened and he climbed out. Looking across the room he could see his brothers, both still asleep in their beds. His Father was away in the U.S. tonight and it wouldn't be beneficial for his brothers to be woken in the middle of the night, but he could feel his mother's presence in his mind and tell that she was awake. Hovering an inch above the ground he flew to the door and phased through it. His mother was looking up from her book at him as he entered the living room and reached her side. "I had a nightmare."
"I know Jonas. I felt your fear when you woke up." her fingers gently trace designs on his back as he rests his head against her chest.
"Why is there so much bad in the world Mother?"
"I don't know baby, but that's why your Father and I are Avengers. To stop the bad things so that you and your brothers and all the other people can be safe."
His brain whirls for a moment, accessing images, files and reports of his parents' actions as Avengers. He's heard them use the term before, but never paid it mind. Storing the new information he looks up at her. "I want to help stop it too."
And on a completely opposite note:
Shouts fill the air as the two little children scream at each other. "I did too get you!"
"No you didn't! Your arrow didn't even come near me!"
"Did too! I heard it whack when it hit you, then it bounced off!" the little girl is glaring daggers at the boy as he stands there vibrating.
"You did not shoot me, so I'm still alive in our game!"
"No you're not! My arrow hit you! You're dead."
"No, you have to hit me to win!" a mischievous twinkle appears in her eyes as he says this.
Fear crosses his face as he attempts to run away, only to end up on the floor after tripping on her foot. She crouches down and punches him in the arm, whispering in his ear. "There. I hit you."
And I'll definitely be rewriting and adapting both of these scenes as well as some of the others to fit in the series as it currently is, and possibly even keeping the title, but some things are definitely going to be changed a bit. Cause as funny of an idea as it is for Wanda and Vision to be hiding little speedster, witch and synthezoid children as well as their relationship from the world while Team Cap is on the run, it doesn't exactly fit. And with Clint and Scott taking house arrest Cassie definitely wouldn't be interacting with other Avengers in that time, and Kate doing so would be lessened at best. Some aspects of both this and Soul and Mind will be in the yet untitled fic listed as WandaVision BradyBunch, and other aspects of this and possibly Red Rover will be in my 'Hawks Under House Arrest' fic (loosely outlined in the file titled Lost and Found, but not actually started) But most of this that I end up using will occur after my IW/Endgame adaption Fixing Forever (listed in my WIP folder as Happily After Endgame After All) and other stuff will have to be abandoned.
