The first episode of Stargate SG-1 premiered on July 27, 1997. The series was a spin-off of the movie Stargate (1994). Until it was beat by Supernatural, SG-1 was the longest running American live action Science Fiction show (that title was held by Doctor Who in the UK). Peter DeLuise got involved with the show through writing, directing, producing and making cameo appearances. For the series Richard Dean Anderaon took over the Kurt Russell role of Jack O'Neill, Michael Shanks the James Spader role of Daniel Jackson, and Elizabeth Hoffman the Viveca Lindfors role of Catherine Langford. In both the film and series Erick Avari played Kasuf, and Alex Cruz played Skaara. The first episode also featured Amanda Tapping as Samantha Carter, Christopher Judge as Teal'c, Don S Davis as George Hammond, Jay Acovone as Charles Kawalsky, Vaitiare Hirshon as Sha're/Amaunet, Robert Wisden as Samuels, Peter Williams as Apophis, Brent Stait as Louis Ferretti, Gary Jones as Walter Harriman, and Alexis Cruz as Skaara/Klorel.
