THAT 70’S SHOW 4x26 "Everybody Loves Casey"
Do you have a favorite side character in T7S? If so, why are they your favorite? And do you try and include them in your writing?
It depends on what you mean by side character!
If we're talking supporting cast members that aren't typically the main focus (i.e. Laurie, Bob, Midge, Leo), then it would be Laurie, easily. As mean-spirited and sharp-tongued as she is, she's an interesting character that had a lot of potential that would've been nice to see had the circumstances allowed it to. I intend to explore what I would've liked to see for Laurie had her character arc not been abandoned in my fic 'Love, Wisconsin Style' in future chapters!
If we're talking guest characters...it's a toss up between Rhonda Tate and Casey Kelso.
Rhonda is a cool character. She's a girl that's a competitive wrestler that has a reputation for getting around, but demonstrates very endearing vulnerability in her subplot with dating Fez. She's a character that I would've liked to have seen as a member of the main group of friends much earlier into the series, and for the remainder of it to the end. I also would've liked to see her interact more with Donna and Jackie. I try and include her where appropriate in my fics of course!
As for my more controversial pick, Casey Kelso, he's a favorite because he's the perfect antagonist to Eric that actually adds to the universe -- as opposed to Mitch Miller, who is mostly just annoying and creepy. Make no mistake, Casey Kelso is a dangerous womanizer and a bad person in general, but his existence provides an interesting (perhaps unexpected) conflict for Eric to navigate, context for Kelso's misogynistic behavior, and a means to show (and exacerbate) Donna's deteriorating emotional state.
As much as I find him abhorrent, he's actually interesting to watch (in a way that his younger brother is not, because the show often presents Kelso's more atrocious behavior as acceptable). Much like Rhonda, where appropriate, I like introducing Casey as an antagonistic force in the narrative.
I also really enjoyed Joanne Stupak as well -- it seems Season 4 had a lot of really great guest characters, now that I think about it. Thanks for the ask! 💖
We know Kelso has brothers (what was it, 4?) and a sister but do we know where he falls in terms of the order of kids? Isn't Casey the oldest?
Kelso has five brothers and one sister. From context clues on the show:
Oldest son
Second oldest son
Third oldest son
Casey
Sister
Michael
Younger brother
In S6, Kelso talks about helping out with only one younger brother when said brother was a baby.
The (horrible) way Eric, in particular, and Hyde talk about Kelso's sister in the circle gives the impression she's older than Kelso but not by much. She's probably in college.
Casey is two years older than Kelso, I believe, meaning their mom pumped out children relatively close together. The youngest was probably an accident surprise.
My headcanon is slightly different, though:
Oldest son
Second oldest son
Sister
Casey
Michael
Twin boys
If you could change any two T7S storyline, what would it be and why
Confirming I can change any storylines between seasons 1-7...
My first priority would be Hyde and Jackie's story but I could pick any number of them, including:
Hyde & Jackie getting together in S5 would be changed to a union fans actually get to see instead of happening offscreen and it would be a continuation of their established and developed bond since S1 and especially since S3 (rather than pretending they immediately went from "hating each-other" to "messing around" out of sheer boredom). In my version, Eric's and Donna's reactions wouldn't be so hypocritical and based around Kelso's-misfortune (as it was his own doing). There would be callbacks to how Hyde and Jackie were perhaps inevitable but the gang remembering how Hyde had a soft spot for Jackie since the prom and how Jackie had an extreme crush on him before. Even a glimpse of continuity would have been nice.
Hyde & Jackie's getting back together in S6 would be changed to Hyde actually doing some work. Jackie would not be chasing him. He would do the chasing because HE CHEATED ON HER TO BEGIN WITH. They would actually talk about his infidelity. She would express her concerns. He would fight for her like he claimed at the end of the season prior. You know... continuity. Instead of the rushed crap we were fed. In my version, it may actually take a few episodes worth of Hyde putting in the work. I personally loved that kind of turmoil we got at the tail end of S5. Jackie deserved to be fought for and it was refreshing to see Hyde care enough about someone to fight for.
Hyde flirting with Jackie's mom in S6 would be him having an in-character response to his girlfriend's absentee, alcoholic mother returning out of the blue, not only as someone who is concerned about the women he's fallen in love with but as a victim of a absentee, alcoholic mother himself. He wouldn't be all Kelso-fied like he ultimately was in this instance and lust after her, nor would he ditch Jackie to deal with it to follow Kelso to his police academy and certainly wouldn't entertain the idea of her coming on to him when he saw her topless. He'd be furious and protective and it would be another way that Hyde and Jackie grew stronger through their shared trauma/upbringing/family dynamics.
Hyde and Jackie's conflict in S7 would be character-driven and well-developed/explained. Hyde's sudden behaviour in which he breaks promises to Jackie and acts like he no longer cares or needs her would be clearly demonstrated as a self-sabotage mechanism after being catapulted into a career and new family. Jackie's need for stability would be elaborated onscreen as a response to Hyde's attitude towards her especially after the aborted wedding of their best friends the season before. I personally didn't even need them to end up engaged. They were young. But we should have seen more meaningful angst, especially if this was since it was the last season. My version would be Jackie needed to leave PP to pursue either her education (college) or career and them trying to overcome a (semi) long-distance relationship.
Other non-zennie storylines I would change if I could:
The whole Hyde/Donna thing in S1.
Jackie and Kelso reuniting in S3.
Donna and Casey's relationship in S4.
Fez and Laurie's marriage in S6.
Kelso and Brooke parting ways in S6.
Eric leaving Donna at the altar in S6.
Kelso and Angie getting together in S7.
---
If I had to choose just 2 of them, I would probably pick Hyde/Jackie's getting together in S5 and Hyde/Jackie's conflict in S7.

Hiya, Sarah 💛! Eric Forman and Casey Kelso for the MBTI matchup, please? (Odd pairing, I know.)
Hi there, Sunshine! I really hope you like this a lot!
Eric Forman's MBTI Type, Big Three, Enneagram Type and Moral Alignment Type
MBTI Type: INTP [The Logician]
INTPs prefer spending time alone so they can explore their rich inner world, and prolonged exposure to big groups of people can make them feel drained.
Their focus lies more on understanding the big picture than on noticing the tiny details. They want to know how things connect together, which gives them great intuition for solving complex problems.
As the most thinking-oriented of the types, they rely on logic rather than emotion as their main influence in decision making.
An INTP normally likes to keep their options open rather than locking themselves into a commitment. They’re flexible and spontaneous, which allows them to capitalize on opportunities that come available at the 11th hour.
Big Three: Pisces Sun, Gemini Moon and Virgo Rising
Pisces Sun: The planetary ruler for Pisces is Jupiter and Neptune, which gives Pisces Suns a sentimental, intuitive, imaginative, and dreamy nature.
Gemini Moon: Ruled by winged messenger, Mercury, Gemini Moons enjoy discussing their complex feelings with others in order to gain a mindful and clear emotional perspective.
Virgo Rising: Virgo ascendants are the fact-finders and checkers of the zodiac. They are fair-minded and slow to anger.
Enneagram Type: 6w7 [The Confidant]
Basic Fear: Six wing sevens fear losing their support system. This may be expressed through self-deprecating humor, in which they seek affirmation and assurance from other people.
Basic Desire: Their basic desire is to feel safe and supported. They show this by being loving and supportive to others. They honor their commitments and are very loyal to their friends.
Like other sixes, Confidants defend themselves by projecting their feelings, which may lead them to misunderstanding themselves and their relationships.
Moral Alignment Type: Neutral Good [The Benevolent]
These characters seek to do good, but are flexible in how they achieve it, valuing both order and freedom.
