Flight of Orpheus and Eurydice
Hellcheer Week Day 3: 2nd Chance
'I should be dead' He thought to himself. He wandered around...correction, flew through the Upside Down thanks to his new set of wings. One moment Eddie was dying in Dustin's arms and later woke up to find himself some sort of an abomination. Pale skin, black veins, burning eyes, leathery wings, and Vecna pulling his strings. Forced as his servant. He barely paid attention to what Vecna said, focusing on the broken corpse of Chrissy, propped up like some fucked up trophy.
Eddie was sick of it but what the hell could he do. His spirit was just about broken. Vecna summoned him back to his lair, standing gloating and ordering Eddie to prepare for the invasion. Eddie could only nod his head in subservience, his will broken long ago. He previously tried attacking the monster in the beginning but each time ended with Eddie flung around painfully and horribly tortured. He was about to take off when he spared one last glance at Chrissy. He didn't know what prompted him but walked over to her. Everything was wrong with her: her imploded eyes, dislocated jaw, twisted limbs, and her pale lifeless skin.
Eddie stabbed himself in the hand with his own claws. He spread some of his blood over Chrissy's twisted face in a futile attempt to make her look slightly better. It was a hopeless improvement but at least her skin had a rosier tint. Tears nearly bursting, Eddie flapped his wings to take flight...
COUGH!!!
COUGH!!!
Hoarse violent coughs filled the air. Eddie immediately whirled around and couldn't believe his eyes. She barely moved like a broken animatronic, but moving nonetheless. He rushed over "Chrissy?!" he shouted with a mixture of concern and disbelief. She could only weakly groan. Eddie immediately stabbed himself again and gave her more blood. She violently coughed some more before her limbs slowly realigned and jaw snapped back into place. Her eyes returned but were a dull milky color, dried bloodstains dripped down from her eyes to chin like a screwed up tattoo.
"E-E-Ed-die" Chrissy weakly rasped. Tears soon became waterfalls as Eddie tore away those damned vines holding her to that wretched spire, his will returning in full force. He wasn't gonna fail her again. He was going to save her. He wasn't abandoning her again. He was going free her from hell. He would give her another chance at life. He will make Chrissy Cunningham the happiest girl in the world. Chrissy practically crumbled into his arms as he quickly scooped her up.
A stabbing pain shot through Eddie's head as he nearly fell on his knees. He looked over his shoulder to see a pissed off Vecna with his hand stretched out. "I had known you would do something like this eventually" his voice like grinding gears sounded off "It was always going to end like this, Eddie the freak, Eddie the banished". Eddie tried to standing up but the pain grew stronger with each move. He could hear Chrissy's labored breathing quickening with panic. "Futilely returning to a home that wishes you dead, saving a girl beyond repair. You were always going to end up alone." Eddie could only grit his teeth. He glanced at Chrissy. He could only see panic and fear in her clouded eyes. He wouldn't let her be afraid again. He will never fail her again!
With one last look of defiance and hate towards the abomination, Eddie summoned a swarm of demobats towards Vecna. Eddie took off, carrying Chrissy, smashing straight through the window of the Creel House attic. Eddie could hear Vecna roaring in rage but couldn't care less.
As he soared towards the megagate, Eddie look towards Chrissy, clinging to him a lifeline. Her face was smeared with tears and bloodstains. He smile towards her. "Don't worry, Chrissy. We're going home". He knew Vecna would strike back with a vengeance. Eddie had to find the others and finally deal with Vecna. For now, he felt atoned.
A super late post for Day 3. Heavily inspired by several Hellcheer artpieces. Also my hope for Season 5. They deserve and must get that happy ending.

Check out this amazing art I commissioned from the lovely @maikaartwork of Chrissy's crowning moment in Chapter 6 of Craving Something Deeper. They blew my expectations out of the water!
Chrissy wake up
Eddie meets the cats.
Cunningham house, late June of ‘88.
Eddie convinces Chrissy to come up on stage for a song and Chrissy is uncertain.
"You got this."
Edit: He starts playing her favorite song.
Chrissy was used to nightmares. She had them just as much as the next girl. Well… maybe more often considering how it was a weekly problem. But her nightmares had always been predictable. Her mom screaming at her and calling her ugly in front of the whole school, everyone somehow finding out she that she might, maybe, (definitely), was gay, or the classic of going to class naked on accident. Though the last one usually had the little spin of Jason vomiting at the sight of her nude. A fact that she actually missed, considering how lately Robin had replaced him in her subconscious as the disgusted party.
The point was, they were normal and often. But they were never like this. Because for the past few days she had been plagued with horrifying dreams, like nothing she’d ever experienced before. There was this thing that kept following her in them, calling to her, chasing her. It knew things about her that no one else did, which should have made sense. It was her own mind after all. But… something felt wrong. It wasn’t like she was digging up her own personal demons, it felt like her brain was being invaded by pure malice, like something desperately wanted her dead.
It made no sense. The thing had a voice, one that she didn’t recognize despite how surreally present it felt. Almost… like she could hear it even when she wasn’t sleeping. A symptom of her lack of sleep she was sure, that had her way too freaked out. She was definitely being over dramatic about the whole thing. They were just dreams, they would pass eventually. So she kept them to herself, deciding that there was no reason in worrying anyone over her stupid brain. She would fly under the radar until the weirdness passed and then everything would be back to normal again. The only problem was that certain people were making it very hard to fly under the radar.
