It's not always easy to distinguish eachother from our voices. From our experiences, internal communication can take a long time due to:

Lack of knowing who's who

Feeling like "you're always in control" (even though half the time they are intrusive or odd urges that don't align with me)

Not always being conscious

I get these headaches more and more often when I try to communicate with Thomas or even with any of the others (if possible, it takes a lot of concentration to reach them). These headaches tell me it's working but oftentimes I can't tell if it's just me or both of us due to not having different voices (sometimes). Thomas can speak differently in the outside world, sure, but internally? He sounds almost like me, but I know he's not me. Back in February 2026, I realized he had a specific tone.. he can be a lot more monotone and masculine as I tend to speak more "high pitched" inside, even outside.

It's getting easier to tell who's who when we're co-con and switching, but when we're blurry, it makes me question everything. I try not to overthink it cause he tells me "we'll figure it out", as we usually do, it just takes longer.

So if you're someone in a system/collective who can't or has a hard time communicating with your headmates/parts/alters/pieces of yourself, ITS OKAY!! THATS NORMAL!! If you're hearing voices constantly, it's likely polyconsiousness where many headmates are active, OR you may have monoconsiousness where one headmate needs to talk first so the other can reply. There was a mini comic I saw about this (I'll @ them if I find it) and thought I'd talk about it myself as I relate to having "one voice at a time", it's only when I'm stressed is when I start hearing more and more voices of the others, or of just myself.
