To be honest, I just let myself write, just to "blow the gunk out," so to speak, and this is what resulted - a thousand-ish words from the Creature's POV. This is set kind of after the Curse of Frankenstein, if the climax fell out differently and Creech escaped.

His brain is kind of healing itself and he's learning how to people, but he still doesn't have a concept of 'self,' really, so he refers to himself as 'it' throughout. If I continue this eventually, that would change over time. Also, he doesn't know Victor's names, so he's just 'its creator.'

Warnings: mild description of injuries (facial bruising and swelling), mentions of past murder

The Creature stood silent in the shadows, observing.

Its creator lay in the alcove it had prepared for him, a miserable, moaning heap.  His arms were encircling his head in a sort of cradling position, blocking the damage from view.

Extensive damage, though far from the worst it had ever wrought.  The Creature was strong.

Its creator had a swollen, bruised neck from the Creature choking him.  His face, too, was purple and swollen on one side, from brow to chin.  The Creature had seen it, briefly, before its creator covered himself from view.

It was the result of its rage at having its hard work flung back in its face, at its creator’s petulance and ingratitude.  It had scavenged for long hours and carefully prepared meals in the fashion its creator had once prepared for it—only to have the plate flung aside and the food called “slop.”

The Creature had lost its temper, not once but twice.  First it had choked him for destroying the meal, and only stopped when he lost consciousness.  Then, later, after it had left him alone for hours and heard him calling out—not in apology, but in demand—it had beaten him viciously to silence him.  It was brutal but effective.

Now, a day had passed, and while the Creature lacked the words to label what it was feeling, it was…ashamed.  It felt bad for raising a hand to its creator.  He had done many wrongs to the Creature in its short life, that was true, but since the Creature had taken him away and chained him in this cave, it felt a duty to care for him—and instead it had grievously wounded him.

It would make amends.  It would nurse him until he healed—and afterwards, it would find a gentler way to train him to be grateful for what he received.

The Creature had prepared the alcove carefully.  Bars blocked the entrance, in case its clever creator found a way to escape the manacle and chain on its ankle.  At the sound of the keys to the door jangling, its creator stopped moaning and shaking.  He went tense and alert, one bright blue eye peeking over his arm.  The other was swollen shut.

He scrambled away on his hands and knees when the Creature opened the door and entered, to the back of the alcove, as far as his chain would allow.

The reversal was not lost on the Creature, who well remembered cowering from its creator in much the same way, but it gave no satisfaction.

The Creature advanced slowly.  It set down the cup and plate it carried with deliberate, if jerky, motions, noting the way its creator tracked it with his bright eye.

The Creature straightened and beckoned.

Its creator started to shake his head and stopped, wincing, one hand rubbing his swollen, blackened neck.  A soft whine emerged from his throat, raspy and crackling.

The Creature grabbed the chain with one hand and effortlessly pulled him closer, heedless of his frantic struggles to stay far away.  Once its creator was in reach, it crouched down and took hold of his jaw.  Its creator yelled out in pain, but stopped struggling to get away.  He trembled and tears rolled down his face, but he made no other moves.  His fearful, wet gaze roved over the Creature’s face, his breathing rapid and shallow.

It realised then that its creator could not speak.  He had spoken a lot since the Creature brought him here, mostly in the form of outraged demands and petulant declarations, but now, his relative silence was not by choice.  The jaw in the Creature’s grip was so swollen on the left side that it was immobile, trapped partially open and partially shut.  It wondered if it had broken it in its rage.

Time would tell.

For now, it wished to feed him before he expired—even if the food was “slop.”

If its creator found it disgusting this time, it was hard to tell.  The spoon alone caused him pain when the Creature pushed it past his lips; he wailed and went rigid and fresh tears coursed down his face, his one open eye squeezing shut and his hands clawing at the dirt floor.  But he made no move to evade a second spoonful or dislodge the Creature’s grip, nor did he try to spit out the food.

Perhaps hunger had rendered the taste more palatable to him.

He wept through the whole plate, but he continued to cooperate.  The Creature rewarded him by pouring the cup of water down his throat.  He choked and sputtered, but moaned with something like relief all the same.

Since it was now finished with him, the Creature dropped him unceremoniously, eliciting another cry from him.  He crawled away much more slowly this time, sniffling and whimpering.  It let him go, gathering up the empty dishes.  It locked the barred door behind it.

Its creator was huddled up in the back of the alcove now, much the same as his position before, only farther from the door.  If it weren’t for his occasional moans, he would appear to be nothing but a mound of laundry.

The Creature left him to it.

There was a long, winding passageway from the alcove and the main cavern where it lived.  Preparing all of it had taken a long time, first with finding these caves to begin with, and then making them livable.  There was so much it had not understood—about the world, about its own needs.

But the Creature was smart—and growing smarter by the day, or so it felt.  Even though its body was not always fully cooperative with its desires, it had still learned to conceal itself, to observe the doings of the people in the villages.  It had learned much through observation about making and keeping fires, about caring for clothing, and about gathering and preparing food.  It had learned to boil water for drinking and for cleaning.

The Creature had stolen the things it needed without remorse.  It had no conception of stealing and rightness or wrongness.  It had stopped killing not because it was morally wrong, but because it no longer felt the urge to kill—at least in part due to the realisation that the killing was what made people start hunting the woods, which was when the Creature felt the most unsafe.

By the time it had found its creator hiding from another mob nearby, the Creature had already transformed its cavern into something resembling a normal human house.  It even slept in a bed, with proper blankets—not a pile of old straw on the floor like its creator had provided for it.

It had briefly considered killing its creator when it happened upon him, but seeing him shivering alone in the woods had stirred it to pity—the first time it had ever felt that emotion.  And, the Creature had reasoned with the slowness of any human thinking such weighty thoughts for the first time, its creator may have treated it badly, but he had also given it life, twice—once after someone else took its life away—and had attempted to fix the things that were physically wrong with it.  That counted for something—reciprocation to some extent.

So the Creature had put the bars in the alcove, and the manacle and chain, and placed a bucket inside for the necessary functions.  Then, that night, it had taken its creator by surprise, while he slept, and brought him to its home, where the mob hunting him would never find him and he would be safe.

Its creator’s lack of gratitude had been evident from the first moment, and had rankled more each day.  That was why the Creature had finally lost its temper, and now it had come to feel shame for that.

As its creator’s moans echoed quietly into the main cavern and the Creature began to wash up the dishes, it felt another emotion for the very first time: regret.
