@kyoshi-era-week-24
[ kirima, to rangi : stop glancing at kyoshi, even lek could stay still for his opera make-up ]
kyoshi era week day 1 - found family/daofei
sketchy and a bit lazy for a scene but i love the flying opera company and i dont want to be late for kyoshi era week <3
ive posted tem before a long time ago but here are my personal designs for them incase someone wants to use them
A bit late to the party but here's my entry for Kyoshi Era Week Day #1: Daofeic (based on an AU I'm working on)
AU in which Jesa and Hark heard that the Gravedigger and the Typhoon would be the Avatar's sifus, and decided that even the daofei could do a better job at it than them
Book Review: The Shadow of Kyoshi
4/5 stars
I enjoyed the deeper dive into fire nation politics. Kyoshi and Rangi are so adorable. I liked the Sky Bison being recognized as the mvps of any Team Avatar.
Spoilers
Okay, but what if there was an Avatar Outlaws Week for all the daofei, triad, pirate, and anarchist enthusiasts across the fandom? What if we had a list of prompts that allowed our favorite characters to be villains and do villain shit, but also examined the fraught intersections of wealth, power, morality, and law and how those factors determine whose actions are deemed "criminal" and who gets a pass? What then?
Warning for MILD BLOOD
Hey do you guys remember that absolutely insane scene where Kyoshi and Rangi use the blood from their bleeding faces as makeup? That was wild. Naturally I had to draw it.
Rise of Kyoshi question
I think that dreams that are included in a story are incredibly important to what the character is going through.
The chapter titled The Iceberg opens with a description of Kyoshi’s nightmare.
If I am interpreting it correct the dream is a fragmented memory or assumption about the day her parents left her. A transaction is mentioned but not expanded on.
What does this dream mean for the greater story?
I have a theory that Kyoshi’s parents had figured out Kyoshi was the Avatar early in her life. Picture a scene similar to Korra being reviled as the Avatar but on a flying bison to an audience of pirates.
Kyoshi’s parents were smart and powerful but they weren’t classy or respectable. The Avatar cannot be associated with daofei. Note this other theory of mine that expands of this idea.
So Jesa and Hark decided to leave her. They couldn’t give her a life of luxury that the Avatar was expected to live. They tried to give her at least the life of a peasant.
The transaction referenced in the dream could have been a deal between daofei parents and a local who promised to raise the misplaced child. But Kyoshi just ended up being an unwanted child instead.
Jesa and Hark could have had good intentions for Kyoshi they just knew they couldn’t give her that. This does not justify their choice or diminish Kyoshi’s pain. But hurting someone out of love or loving someone by hurting them is a trope I am hopeless to.
