How would I go about communicating with a headmate who's almost purely mute

Like if I ask him a question he only shrugs or nods and will sometimes just straight up ignore me

He hardly ever says anything at all and idk how to go about getting him to talk

we really need advice.

we have a high headcount in our system. almost all system tracking apps are being shut down, and ampersand lags us horribly due to the high headcount. switching to manual logging would take too much time, and I don't have the energy for that tbh. it is tempting, though, if no other options present themselves soon. I'm not willing to learn coding just for this right now.

does anyone have any advice? perhaps an app recommendation or a document template I can follow? please help, we really need this. we're on android, so any apps that work there are highly appreciated
