DIETS DO NOT WORK.
Whether that is "a diet" in the conventional sense of some else's idea of which are the right foods to eat and which are the ones to be avoided, or whether that's in the other sense of caloric restriction... if you have spent the last 5, 10, or 20 years of your life trying to find a diet you can stick to or trying to find a trainer who'll force you to do so via "accountabilty", I have no doubt that the only thing you've become aware is that you can't stick to a diet and quite likely you have concluded that it is "due to who I am as a person" or some variation on that theme.
So long as your focus is on "trying to stick to a diet" that's extent of any success you're going to have and anything you're going to be aware of as a result.
Diets don't work. What does work however is... let's call it "Intuitive Sports Nutrition" with an emphasis on self care.
Focus primarily on building some consistency of appopriate habits. What you will soon become aware of is that is only when you neglect yourself by skipping meals, attempting to restrict to insufficient levels of energy intake (especially while attempting to increase amounts and quality of physical activity), or otherwise failing to eat enough that the wheels start to come off. Whether that is in the sense of a mere "lack of results" in terms of improved performance and condition, whether that is ending up ravenously over eating later in the day, or whether that is succumbing to one of your trigger foods and an inevitable binge eating episode later in the week. What you will soon become aware of is that these issues all stem simply from not being in the habit of consuming enough of a regular basis to manage, much less benefit from, the level of workload that you subject your body to at training.
Diets don't work. Sports nutrition and self care does.
I'm well into my 40s by now and I spent well over 30 years thinking "I only like all the wrong foods and I can't eat the right foods" and at times being made to feel like this was some kind of personal, moral failing on my part. What a load of garbage that was. Now I coach people from ages in their late teens to their late 60s, and whether you have struggled with "dieting" for 5 months, 5 years, 25 years... I would like to see you spare yourself from suffering further, with a subtle change in outlook and direction that WILL result in the improvements in athletic performance, condition, and over all well being that you have worked so hard for up until now.

This is how I’m currently looking 💃🏻 I’m making the most of my “grow season” to gain some more muscle, condition, and to improve upon my last competitive physique for the next show. Still trying to keep my ratios in check and keep the midsection as tight as I can. My eating has been pretty relaxed with increased calories but still disciplined and mindful in food choices - with a few treats here and there. I’m not AS heavy or fluffy as I was in year’s last off season..but I think I’ve found my happy medium this time around. While I miss my shreds I also embrace and enjoy my fluffy phase. I don’t like wasting time and understand in order to make the progress I want I have to allow a healthy environment within the body to facilitate this growth - even at the expense of losing definition and lines TEMPORARILY. I don’t mind - it’s all a part of the process 🙏🏼 I know a lot of girls struggle with the idea of putting some weight back on post-show (don’t worry I’ve been there too) but we need to remember every stage serves a purpose to our PROGRESS, and to make progress you need to move forward, rather than getting inside your own head and stopping yourself from achieving what you want. Always look towards the bigger picture. And for as much work you put into your exterior, make sure to be putting in the same level of effort in your relationship with yourself on the inside. So... I had a sponsored post on fb last night from some new place opening up locally looking for males to take their 28 Day Challenge to get shredded for summer or some such nonsense.
In 28 days though? I can only imagine the challenge consists of ultra low calories, loads of HIIT sessions, probably multiple sessions each day until eventually you just burn out all together, regain about 250% of whatever amount of weight you lost, and are put off exercise for life.
Everything that is wrong with this industry IMO but I guesd if all you care about is selling as many programs as possible it is probably going to be lucrative.
Like it or not, if you want SUSTAINABLE results it takes time, consistency, and persistence. Anything extreme, anything that is not about establishing sustainable habits, anything temporary in nature is ultimately going to leave you worse off than before you started and a lot of the people reading this would have learned this the hard way via experience already.
Learn about safe, effective & productive training, learn your nutritional requirements and practice meeting them with the choices of foods & the schedule that best suits you.
Whatever you're thinking of doing this season should be about setting yourself up for ongoing success into the new year. Is it though?
Honestly pretty damn happy with my condition today especially for approx 3.1kg heavier than lowest weight of last Summer.
as discussed, current fueling levels are based on an estimation of "barely adequate". I've found it pretty easy other than at training sessions featuring squats or leg presses. Oh and on Thursday evening I was pretty hungry too.
Therefore the plan is for perhaps one more week at current levels unless I start to find it more difficult in which case I shall reasses the situation. By the following week I will consider this level to have become "insufficient" and will begin to increase according before the severity of the deficit becomes counter productive.
