Just a silly lil stupid idea I wanted to share after Ithica saga because lord knows we need it after that
But just imagine after he gets home, Odysseus & Telemachus are playing on the beach & Telemachus decides to run into the water. Ody chases after him, but when he gets to the water’s edge it quickly recedes around him to the point where it’s obvious it’s avoiding him. & to be funny, Telemachus jokes “I think Poseidon’s afraid of you, father”
& without missing a beat, he goes “he doesn’t have to be. I’m home now” & now Telemachus is like 👀👀👀 cause what the hell is THAT supposed to mean
Odysseus just smirks & cups his hands around his mouth & yells something like “I promise I won’t stab you again!” What? He can show off & brag to his son
& then a huge wave crashes straight into Ody & knocks him flat on his ass
Polites was the champion of Ares. Even during the Trojan War, when Ares was on the Trojan side, he continued to train Polites because of his strength and Ruthlessness. He was the perfect mentee. He didn't question him (unless it was to get to know the guy), he was an amazing fighter, and could turn off his heart in an instant.
But then the man grew soft.
After the war, Polites kept going on and on about "Open arms" and "the war is over, we don't have to fight to survive anymore!"
Ares could hardly believe that this was the same courageous man he'd met all of those years ago. He'd grown too soft. Ares could no longer help him if he was choosing to forget all of those years or training and choosing peace as an option.
This was his goodbye, for good.
And unlike Athena to Odysseus, he never got to apologize to him.

(Some context about this AU's start)
Odysseus never told anyone about his true identity. The only people who know are: his parents, his servants, his sister and Penelope (looooong after they married). Yes, neither Polites nor Eurylochus knows!
Odysseus surprisingly managed to hide his identity throughout the whole Trojan war! That's what I call a natural liar. (This was probably really hard. Because – in my AU at least – sirens can completely disguise themselves as humans, but staying too long without their original form tires them out.)
Polites dying without knowing his best friend's greatest secret! This might cause Ody some insecurities
There's a big BIG change in Ruthlessness.... Poseidon doesn't drown any ship. He leaves everyone alive. "Why?" Because there's a better revenge for his son than that... reveal for the crew that Odysseus is a siren.
Poseidon knows his creatures. He knows that man, the oh so called captain belongs to the sea. The lands taught him kindness, those disgusting humans have skewed his vision of mercy. It was now time to remind him the belief of where he belonged. Remind him that Ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves.
Yes, he leaves over 500 men alive with the information that their human captain and king was, all along, a man-eating sea monster. So, it would be 500+ men against one monster. Isn't that exactly what happened to Polyphemus? Now, what perfect revenge.
Odysseus saves his men from Circe not only out of altruism but also as a way to prove himself alongside them.
Idk how things would go on Circe's saga. I know that Eurylochus did not allow Ody to be killed. Yes, he was upset, but in this case he completely understood Odysseus' side, who was precisely afraid of being rejected and killed. But he does feel hurt by not being trusted.
Nothing's changed during the Underworld saga (for now!)
Thunder saga is… pretty much changed. (I even considered that it wouldn't even happen because Poseidon already had his revenge. There was no reason to run away from him anymore. But since Odysseus didn't die, he would probably still be very angry if he showed up in Ithaca!)
Suffering goes normally, except Ody is the only one who doesn't need beeswax. If the sirens identified Ody as one of them, he probably lied that he was going to share the "food" (crew) with them and gave some excuse for the siren to give him the information on how to go to Ithaca. And once she did…
In Different Beast, after being denied mercy, the sirens don't scream "No!" But instead, they repeatedly shout the word "TRAITOR!" Because that's what Odysseus is. A traitor. Who kills his own kind for the sake of humans. Filthy, weak creatures that should be his food.
Scylla is… the same? Maybe?? Except now 12 ships have to go through it...
Mutiny happens and has more weight because now they think their captain is finally letting his monster side take him by sacrificing his own men.
Thunder Bringer… would it even happen? I mean. Not ALL the boats needed to go to the underworld. Only Ody's could go while the others got plenty of food. With food = no dead cattle = no Thunder Bringer
BUT I think Ody would suffer a punishment for killing his own kind, and then that's why he's sent to Calypso's island. And now he has to carry the weight of being abandoned by his men.
Uhm… I'll stop the timeline here. Thunder Bringer and onwards still seems like a very gray area to me. I really don't know what to make of this period.....
Anyway, Six Hundred Strikes is probably a battle underwater.
I’m listening to Epic the Musical again (shocking I know) and maladaptive daydreaming as one does. So now it is my personal headcannon that the Apollo Cabin uses places around the camp to re-enact the musical when it is not actively in use. It’s only while they’re not in use because Chiron gave them all a lecture and dish duty and pegasus pen clean out for a month because they disrupted training one day while re-enacting the Circe Saga resulting in a few (read: multiple) injuries so now it’s either use non-active areas or don’t do it at all. And the Apollo Cabin would sooner die than not re-enact any musical much less Epic the Musical, so they do as they’re told.
They have a handful of places that are on rotation. 1st is the Mess Hall/area and they love to use this one to re-enact the ithaca saga because the pillars, torches, and tables make recreating “Hold them Down” and “Odysseus” real nice. And yes they do incorporate actual weapons. Don’t tell Chiron.
2nd-The wall is used on the occasion for the Troy Saga but it gets tiring climbing to the top so they switch it out every now and again for the amphitheater. It’s a lot easier to climb.
3rd- The Canoe Lake gets used a lot for the ocean saga and the underworld saga. Yes they do canoe across it every now and again for the authenticity. No they do not care about the concerned looks they get from other campers. Yes their spear throwing skills have improved because of the “aim for the sky” bit. They will occasionally use the lake for the Thunder Saga as well but they like to use a different place a lot more.
4th- The Amphitheater gets used a lot more for the Wisdom saga and the Circe Saga (though they do like to swap in the north woods every now and again for the Circe Saga because the Nymphs like to participate in that one every now and again.) They use the amphitheater mainly just because it feels right and that’s the best explanation you’re gonna get from them. Sometimes you just gotta go with the vibes man.
5th and final place is Cabin 1 and yes they do preform inside the cabin and yes it is used because Thalia is basically never home and well Jason’s dead so it’s free real-estate and yes they use it for the Thunder Saga and the Thunder Saga only. They’re pretty sure using it for the Thunder Saga is the only reason their cabin is still standing to be honest, Using this location did take a while for the whole cabin to warm up to because many of them were like “Zeus barely tolerates our dad he’s gonna fuckin kill us if we use his Cabin for this and he catches wind of it.” Eventually they all chilled out and started using it for it when enough of them hadn’t died for using it. Unbeknownst to them the only reason Zeus doesn’t do anything is because the damn musical does a good job representing him and damn it all if it isn’t catchy. So he lets it slide. For now.
I can imagine when in I Can't Help But Wonder when Ody tells Telemachus to go tell Penelope he's home, Telemachus, of course, doesn't wanna let go of his father but he does anyways because he wants his parents to be together but as he's running to get Penelope he's looking behind him every few seconds, a small skip in his step, absolutely giddy with glee because "Oh my Gods, my dad's home."
