I was looking through the definitions of retrograde trying to figure out which one Falling Sky meant with the title of this beer and honestly it had me stumped. I finally stumbled across a definition that meant “a degenerate person” which I decided I’m going with because being a degenerate myself, I now feel more connected to this beer than the hairs on a horses ass. This is my first beer from these Eugene, Oregon natives and I was lucky enough to have this sent out to review and for a red ale, this is pretty damn awesome. I know the whole “for a red ale” thing sounds like I’m trying to take something away from this beer but in my defense, Offspring wrote “Pretty Fly For A White Guy” and that song kicked ass too so there! This has a malty almost moss like start to it (a good thing I promise) before some spicy hop flavor mixes in with a mild bitterness before leading into more of that bread malt mixed with some floral hop to close. In the world of reds, this one is up there with some of the best I’ve tasted and I’m just hoping that these guys keep bottling new brews because I’d love to sample more of their lineup. If you’ve had red ales before, you haven’t had THIS red ale so that means you are also a degenerate and you should get your hands on this ASAP. As for you newcomers, this beer might be a bit much for your first but stick with it because this is definitely one not to forget. Cheers!
