GOT 8.04 Misogyny, Racism, and Bad Writing

I said I wasn’t going to do anything more for it but I’m still angry so I’m writing my feelings. I’m not going to say much, but just reiterate my points.

For starters, @oadara wrote an excellent analysis of the racist elements to this episode. Missandei was fridged for no reason other than that she’s a black woman and Hollywood loves to brutalize them. It’s disgusting.

For the writing aspect, none of the characters acted like themselves. They’re all stupid and sneaky and the Starks acted like ungrateful twats. Sansa is my favorite character and she acted like Regina George. Arya’s arc has always been about “a girl is Arya Stark of Winterfell and I’m going home” and now she’s... leaving forever? The show writers say Cersei is like Jaime’s addiction and he can’t leave her, except... he does in the books.

Varys was a horrifying misogynist, telling us he’s worried about Dany’s state of mind but... why? Until this episode, we didn’t even see Dany making any decision that would hint at this. Also, having two--TWO--women cry and beg the men they love and the men not listen is not a good look. Brienne’s crying scene by itself would not bother me, but in the context of this episode, it hella does.

As for Dany, there are two options. I know spoilers hint at the latter, but I’m going to say I really still think the former is the most likely. Call me stupid, but the pregnancy foreshadowings were laid on quite thick again this episode and without it Jonerys doesn’t even change anything so like. It’s marginally better? Either way the story is honestly trashed. It’s a steaming pile of shit.

Dany gets pregnant and ditches the throne-->women shouldn't be in power and should go and have babies!

Dany goes insane and Jon kills her-->women shouldn't be in power and need to be put down like mad dogs.

These are our options. In a day and age where Trump beat a woman and where everyone flocks around white males, I’m done. I’m so done.

I got to dmit that I shipped brienne and Jaime hard, really hard, to the point that I almost forgot the monster that Jaime Lannister used to be, that his monster side is still there ready to come out for the love of his abominable sister. And seeing how he left Brienne to return to Cersei side, i feel shameful that I believed that his “good” side would take over, i was even convinced that he was the one who would kill Cersei as a final act of redemption. I don’t know maybe it’s still possible but if I’m sure of one thing: is that Ser Brienne Of Tarth deserves better.

Ngl with all the things I don't agree with in the finale season of got - I've enjoyed myself

the props/sets/special effects/makeup/wardrobe/acting/soundtrack/cinematography/and acting (saying it twice) have been incredible.

(I've also really enjoyed the memes)

I will be binge watching from season 1 after next week.

And as I stand back and look at s8... I'm not as disappointed as I first thought

I will miss this series

Did Daenerys legitimising Gendry and granting him Storm’s End worked against him in a way? I can’t imagine Arya saying yes to his proposal. I saw the two of them being together not as a lord and lady of a castle but just two regular people, sort of middle class like, with Gendry continuing being a smith and Arya a hunter or something. But I don’t see that this ship is dead - Arya may well still change her mind after she accomplishes what she set out to do in Kings Landing or Dany might not end up a queen so Gendry will not get Storm’s End, so they will be able to live as two regular people. 

It’s not the end yet.
