Out of everything Hades could've done to Iapetus, he just... hired him? To sweep palace floors? While Nico, Hades' teenage son, feels free and comfy to casually chat with him about Percy being such a good friend?

I guess Iapetus didn't make much of an impression on his enemies in the first Titanomachy and didn't hurt anyone valuable then.

Iapetus and Krios are like bros- they've been bros from the start. Krios is like the lowkey wants to be kickass bro next to his literal stabber bro being like "I can kill them!" and Iapaetus is behind him glaring down whoever he's facing going "you got them, you can kill them".

Krios LOVES being kickass, unfortunately he's a starry eyed heavenly boy at heart. He is not a fighter and if he sees blood he's kinda like "yikes, don't get that on me-" and he will spend six hours rambling about the stars and their patterns and their balance in the heavens and "I need people to stop being dumb about the movement of the stars we HAVE to keep things rotating it's Necessary For Balance, you don't wanna see the same sky three bajillion times!"

He IS the science nerd and Iapetus lowkey actually enjoys it all but he's also gonna kill anyone who looks at Krios wrong. He sometimes gets a little caught up in Avenging Krios so he sometimes misses when Krios really just needs a hug (after he gets the bloody clothes off) but that's why their other siblings are there <3

Iapetus made sure Krios was out of Tartarus before Iapetus got out, cause he knew that Krios wouldn't be able to handle Tartarus. Hyperion would be there to hold his hand until Iapetus got to him though.

ANOTHER fun Ethan-gets-possessed au I like is that similarly to Luke being Kronos' host, Ethan is made to host Iapetus. He gets a cool silver eye instead of gold and his missing eye socket is all just a spooky big phantom eye and he's cackling maniacally and he wields a giant ass spear twice as long as he is tall and he wacks people into the stratosphere with it like a baseball player

Yeah yeah Iapetus redemption is fun and all, but honestly, he should be rightfully angry at Zeus for the fates of his sons.

Menoetius was stuck in Tartarus with him.

Atlas has been carrying the sky since the 1st titan war.

Prometheus was getting his liver eaten out daily for giving humans fire.

Epimetheus's wife was deliberately made to screw over humanity (who Prometheus invented and loved) because Zeus didn't feel like Prometheus's punishment was enough and had to mess with his brother too.

And sure, Iapetus's sons aren't perfect, some of them in fact are not good at all, but he's still a father and those are still his little boys. And they suffered a lot.

Iapetus's story is shockingly existential and philosophical. I didn't remember it being so deep, but now that i'm reading it at 19 (and suffering through a lot of my own existensial thoughts and feelings), it really hits home for me. His struggle with not knowing who he is, whose side he should be on, what he should do with his life, etc. It's all incredibly relatable. sigh...

The Trials of Bob/Iapetus. That could've been a story, honestly. I just thought of that at school four days ago. If Apollo got a story about being reborn or punished or whatever as a mortal, why not Iapetus? He actually died, so him being reborn makes some sense. Also, Iapetus was apparently the Titan who represented humanity, something I learned from his wikipedia page. To quote wikipedia now: "Hesiod and other Greek scholars regarded the sons of Iapetus as mankind's ancestors and as such, some of humanity's worst qualities were said to have been inherited from these four. For instance, sly and clever Prometheus could perhaps represent crafty scheming; the inept and guileless Epimetheus, foolish stupidity; the enduring, strongest and powerful Atlas, excessive daring; and the arrogant Menoetius, rash violence."

With all that going for him, we could have made a compelling series about Iapetus being reincarnated on earth. Maybe have the enemy be a slowly waking Ouranous/Uranus, angry at the titans and gaea for killing him, and who wants to take it out on earth by destroying humanity. I have to admit: I think I'd like this idea more than the Trials of Apollo (no offense to those books, but Jason's death makes them unreadable after a certain point). It feels more like the logical next step after the series about Gaea. Titans, then Giants and Gaea, then Ouranous. It's the logical follow-up. I insist on that. So now I just wish this had been a real series...

Okay I didn't want to derail the last post but Bob saying he'll fight for Nico for as long as he (Bob) lives (as opposed to as long as Nico, who has a significantly shorter lifespan due to being mortal, lives) becomes so fascinating with the concept of Nico unknowingly being Zagreus reborn in a mortal body. Especially if we play with the two versions of Zagreus's myth to include the bit where Zagreus was originally killed by Titans. A Titan unknowingly swearing to fight for the god killed by Titans millennia earlier is a tasty idea.

Okay, you know what fucks me up about TSatS? This line:

First, it's such a powerful moment. Here's Bob, facing down a powerful primordial goddess who is intent on claiming this one specific demigod. Bob could easily run, Nyx probably wouldn't care as long as she could still get Nico, but instead he says no. No, she cannot have this demigod. What god or Titan have we seen at any point in these books who's so willing to put their life on the line for a mortal? Nyx will not have Nico as long as Bob's there, even though he could easily save himself a lot of pain by letting her do what she wants and running while she's distracted. Most Titans and gods would've cheerfully stepped back and let the demigods do the work, but Bob does his best to physically put himself between Nyx and Nico and Will so that she can't hurt them!

And second... his life. He says "As long as I live", not "As long as you live". He might be speaking hyperbollically, of course, but that still feels like a huge thing for an immortal to say to a mortal? He'll fight for Nico for as long as his immortal life lasts. Not to state the obvious, but that's a long time. I feel like that's not a promise to make lightly, even if he's not technically swearing to do it! Obsessed with the implications of a Titan saying he will fight for a demigod as long as he lives! Please Rick for the love of god don't forget about this if you write anything set later in the timeline!
