You mentioned there not being enough of rivals/love rivals to lovers bl. Is there any at all? It’s one of my favorite tropes and if there’s even one I have definitely not seen it.

Also love your tumblr. Have been digging through the archives for recs etc. watched 7 days based on your recommendation and enjoyed very much (although the hair o_O)

love rivals to lovers - my favorite trope!

There is only one recent BL built around this trope, that I know of, and it's a lot of fun.

It's a short (30 min) from Vietnam's MCVMedia in 2021. I have a real soft spot for it. It's on YouTube. Low production values etc... but adorbs.

Two boys (jock & nerd) learn that they are both dating the same girl. At first they hate each other, but then they decide to get together and take revenge. In the process they fall in love with each other instead.

There is also:

Falling in Love with a Rival AKA Counterattack from China in 2015. It pops up on YT sometimes. It is extremely odd.

Premise is: bro-dude's gf ditches him for rich man who everyone knows is actually gay. Said Dude-dro goes to his gay bestie for help/advice/in how to "turn gay" to seduce the rich guy and get revenge on the ex-gf. Falls (?) for/in lust with/under spell of $$$ of the rich guy.

And then recently there was a side couple played by NetJames in a non BL Catch Me Baby, which I haven't watch yet. But I understand they both like the same girl, hate each other, then revenge fuck and things devolved from there.

Finally there is KohJack AKA JackKoh in Gen Y 1 & 2. Who are both courting the same boy but end up with each other. They are very much a side couple tho it's a lot of nonsense to watch just for them.

I havent been able to hop on tumblr recently bc I have yet to see the new kinnporsche episode 💀💀💀 but I had to mention this

Okay! Time for a post solely devoted to the one scene that Jack and Koh had, because I feel like it says a lot about the way their relationship has changed.

So, Koh shows up out of the blue(why is he even there in the first place?), to tend to the nosebleed Jack is being dramatic about. Jack is resistant at first:

But he fairly quickly relents:

Though he's definitely whiney about it

And then! Then Koh turns on the charm

We've never actually seen either of them intentionally flirt with the other. The closest we came to it was when they exchanged flowers, and that was spur of the moment and not entirely intentional. This, however, is clearly something that Koh is doing deliberately.

Jack is still openly resistant though:

But then things get even more interesting:

And here we run into the problem of them not having enough scenes together, because this can be taken a couple of ways. Either they're going to play video games together, and Jack doesn't want to change that, OR, and this is where my eternally strapped on kink goggles come into play(heh), Jack is playing video games with someone else, and Koh somehow has acquired enough power over him that if Koh told him to not play video games with someone, Jack would obey. This theory is, I think, somewhat aided by what happens next:

Jack becomes instantly accommodating, with a "thank you" and a seemingly eager offer to wash Koh's handkerchief. Where did this behavior come from? We've never seen him act like this with Koh before. Ugh, why can't they have more scenes?!

Anyway, then there's this part, and I feel like there's got to be some word play going on that isn't getting translated, because I'm a little lost as to his meaning:

I have no idea what he means by this. But it clearly means something to both of them:

I've run out of my Tumblr allotted photos for this post, but Jack shakes himself out of it, says "What nonsense are you spouting?", and Koh laughs.

So, it appears that Koh has become the seme, and possibly the Dom, though whether they turn out to actually be kinky remains to be seen.

I really, really wish they were the main couple.

Gen Why? Ep 10

Not only did Pha’s parents pronounce him dead and leave the room before he actually, y’know, died, they didn’t bother coming to the funeral thus leaving Kit and Wayu as the main mourners.  For the first time ever Yu didn’t feel the need to cry and he and Thanu used the time to declare their love.   FFS.

Meanwhile...

This made me HOWL with laughter.   Kit sat alone with his umbrella, like a Victorian widow and Mark wasn’t allowed to come anywhere near him despite Kit’s promise (to himself?) that he’ll cherish every second with Mark, like Pha told him to. Kit needs a smack.  

Fast forwarding through the ThanuWayu beach frolicking (yay - the ex is dead, hooray, let love flourish etc etc) is the only way to go. 

Mark is possibly the best boyfriend in the world by the way - he studies English so he can also go to university in the US, he knits a scarf (which was PERFECT - how dare Kit say it wasn’t) and he puts up with this completely pointless separation because he’s a Good Boy.  

JackKoh/KohJack got their statutory single cute scene - shame they had to share it with our resident lumps of wood whose antichemistry tried to cancel out our boys’ chemistry in the same way that antimatter cancels out matter (if I remember my Star Trek physics correctly).  They didn’t succeed though - Jack and Koh are indestructible. 

Phai is the Philosopher Fong of the series, dispensing wise advice. Sadly no scene with Sandee - boo. 

And finally PokTong are on their way back baby!  I do hope Pok has saved his fluffy ears for when they finally get their groove on again - I know Tong will appreciate being ravaged by a werewolf.
