🚨 MUSCLE ANATOMY: SERRATUS ANTERIOR [boxer's muscle] 🚨 The serratus anterior is a saw type muscle that originates from the top surface of the eight and nine upper ribs and inserts onto the medial margin of the scapula. In the sport of powerlifting, the serratus anterior is often found inhibited due to the lack of overhead movements as the bench press generally has a higher priority over the overhead press. It is also recommended in powerlifting to retract and downwardly rotate the scapulae to increase overall stability, this also further inhibits the serratus anterior and weakens the muscle. Weakness and/or dysfunction to this muscle can lead to: 💥 Winging and lifting of the scapulae 💣 Poor overhead mobility and stability 🔥 Shoulder impingement and rounding of shoulders Strengthening the serratus anterior with exercises that require the shoulder blades to protract and upwardly rotate will improve overall shoulder and shoulder blade health and is often the missing link in rehabilitation programs. This includes exercises such as overhead presses, scapular push ups and incline shoulder raises. If you're a powerlifter that experiences chronic shoulder pain with the symptoms mentioned above, start activating the serratus anterior and bullet proofing your shoulders! . 🚨 TAG A FRIEND THAT COMPLAINS ABOUT SHOULDER PAIN! 🚨 . . . #shoulder #stretch #mobility #myodetox #toronto #fitness #exercise #shoulderworkout #shouldermobility #shoulderstability #ironman #yoga #yogi #run #orlando #warmup #bench #naturalbodybuilding #tips #functionaltraining #strengthandconditioning #physiotherapy #chiropractor #anatomy #ufc #ifbb #ifbbpro #bodybuilding #kinetizeyourlife
