Day 1 of the Easter camp at the @ekotaacademy hub. During our parents briefing we highlighted our vision of civic responsibility and how we believe that enriching the lives of young people with good habits early on in their lives helps create model and responsible citizens. With that in mind Ekota Academy will be working with the Little Litter League to promote Litter awareness and cleaner communities. The youngsters made their debut today and were excited and enthusiastic throughout the litter pick event. Our lives are busy and litter is often the last thing on our minds. But the rubbish we leave behind is having a lasting impact on our wildlife, countryside and oceans. Every day we drop millions of pieces of litter. All this rubbish is a real danger to animals - hedgehogs, squirrels and turtles try to eat it and get entangled. So we are calling time on rubbish excuses for littering. What can you do to help? Make sure al rubbish is kept with you until you find a bin. If we all take care of our litter we can make the world a better place to live, for our wildlife and for us. A walk in the park when you have @abz.rahman as company. Litter picking is important conservation work. It also involves pledging ones personal time and we find a good way is to combine the time spent with a brisk walk, food parcel and book deliveries, shopping, and fresh air with family and friends. So, it gets people outdoors and engaging with neighbours and locals. We collected three bags but additionally we had a catch up after a busy few weeks and cemented plans for #homeless soup kitchen, rough sleepers distribution, Ramadan outreach. Every piece of rubbish that is taken away to be recycled or deposited in a landfill means there is one less dangerous item for birds, turtles or whales to swallow. Cleanups also restore these creatures our habitats and help restore beauty to our surroundings. Litter pick activities are refreshing and serve to educate and inspire locals, visitors and even volunteers to bin their rubbish as well as reducing usage of plastic. 750 bags milestone reached today with the eco warriors at @londonenterpriseacademy We’re all paying for the clean-up. Litter on our streets forces local authorities to divert public money away from other public services like schools and roads. According to Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE), the three major culprits are fast-food packaging, confectionary wrappers and soft and alcoholic drinks bottles made from plastic, tin or glass.
