The Thousand Sunny is docked on a summer island, and the Straw Hats quickly dispersed themselves around the island, taking advantage of the warm weather and lack of conflict for the time being. Luffy quickly barreled off in search of meat; Sanji went into town to restock the Sunny's food supply; Usopp and Franky stayed on the boat to tinker with some project or other; Chopper ran off after Zoro, who had jumped off the ship, hands in his pockets, and started taking a casual stroll around the island; and Brook, Jinbei, Robin, Nami, and you grabbed your beach gear and settled in on the nearest beach for a fun day in the sun.
On the beach, Jinbei calmly waded through the shallow parts of the water, Brook settled in against a palm tree with his violin and began playing a song with an upbeat tune, Robin settled in beneath an umbrella to read, and you and Nami settled in together beneath your own umbrella.
After laying out the beach towels and setting up the umbrella, Nami sits down on her own towel, leaning back on her arm. You lay perpendicular to her, resting your head in your best friend's lap and letting your feet dig into the sand. Nami doesn't shoo you out of her lap; instead, she hums contentedly and lets her hand fall into your hair, gently massaging your scalp.
"That bikini looks nice on you," Nami says after a while, smiling at you.
You grin. "Thank you! Yours is super cute, too, but everything looks good on you."
Nami hums before changing the subject. "This is nice. I hope we get another laid back day like this for Valentine's Day."
"Valentine's Day?" You ask confusedly, turning your head so that you're looking up at her.
"Yeah, you know. The holiday all about love," she explains unnecessarily.
You sit up, turning your body to face her, adjusting so that you're sitting criss-crossed on your own beach towel.
"Ha. Ha." You deadpan. "I know what Valentine's Day is, stupid. I'm just— Why are you so keen to celebrate it? You're not dating anyone."
Nami smirks. "I could be."
"You're not."
"Not yet."
"What does that mean?"
"It means you could be my Valentine."
"Nami, I'm your best friend. I can't be your Valentine."
"Why not? You're hot, I'm hot. You don't have a Valentine, I don't have a Valentine. You love me, I love you. I'm not seeing a problem here."
You groan and flop backwards onto the ground, letting your arm fall over your eyes.
"What's wrong?" Nami asks, but she sounds amused, not worried. In fact, you can hear the grin in her tone as she clearly is messing with you.
"Nothing. It's just that that didn't sound like a joke," you say, still not looking at her.
"That's because it wasn't a joke," she laughs, letting her hand fall to your leg, gently rubbing comforting circles with her thumb.
You prop yourself up on your elbows and give Nami a look.
"Nami," you warn.
"What?"
"You can't just say stuff like that!"
"And why not?"
"Because you're supposed to be my best friend, not the one making my heart race all the time."
"Why can't I be both?" She challenges.
"You're serious?"
"Yes."
"Do you swear all your berries on it?"
"Whatever you want."
You stare at her, searching her expression for any evidence that she's messing with you. When you find none, you sigh, repositioning yourself again so that your head is back in her lap.
"Fine. I'm your Valentine, then."
"You always were," she says with a smile, hand returning back to your hair as she resumes your earlier position.

For many people, Valentine's Day entails an ordeal: special outfits, fancy dinners, over-the-top professions of love. For you and Nico Robin, however, Valentine's Day entails small, thoughtful gifts and quiet time together on the Thousand Sunny. After all, for quieter souls such as you and Robin, there's no reason to make an performative gestures because of a particular date. Instead, the holiday is simply an excuse to spend your day together uninterrupted by the 9 other people aboard the ship.
So, you and Robin find yourself alone together, tucked quietly in the Sunny's library, sitting across from each other on the couch. Smiling softly at each other, you hand over a small wrapped gift to Robin, who takes it gently and carefully unwraps it.
"You didn't have to get me anything," Robin says with a smile, ripping the gift wrap open anyway.
"Well, I wanted to. Besides, you got me something."
Robin giggles. "Fair enough."
Then, she pulls the gifted book you just handed her out of the paper and gasps softly. "Ten Islands and Ten Horrific Folktales," she reads. "Sweetheart, this sounds intriguing! This is perfect! Thank you." Robin leans forward and plants a sweet and thankful kiss on your lips. You grin.
"I'm glad you like it! There are a couple islands you've been to in there, and at least three more that Nami says we may visit on our current trajectory," you tell her, chest filling with pride at the excitement gleaming in your girlfriend's eyes.
"I can't wait to read it," she says, giving you another kiss before setting the book aside and grabbing her gift to you.
As Robin hands you the gift, you take it gently, turning it over as you try to get an idea of what it is.
"Did you get me a book, too?" You ask with a smirk, already tearing open the gift wrap to uncover a book, just as you'd guessed.
Robin shrugs. "We like to read together, so I thought a book was appropriate. Plus, I think you'll like that one."
You turn the book over, examining it, before reading the title out loud.
"This is the next book in that series I love," you deduce.
"Do you like it?"
"I love it! I can't wait to read it. I was dying to find out what happens next. The first one ended on a cliffhanger," you tell her, setting the book in your lap to lean forward and give her a grateful kiss, just as she had you.
"Good," she says. "Now, shall we read?"
"I don't see why not."
Robin hums, reaching out to gently tuck a flyaway piece of hair behind your ear.
"I love you," she says, both voice and eyes soft.
"I love you more," you tease.
"I love you so much that if you were to die right now, I would quickly die of a broken heart and follow you to the grave," she challenges.
"Why do you say such morbid things, my love?" You giggle.
Robin only shrugs and plants another kiss on your lips before settling in to have a nice, quiet reading night with you.
trafalgar law
You’re sitting at the table in the Polar Tang’s kitchen nursing a cup of tea. Most of the Heart Pirates’ crew have already filed out of the kitchen for the day, ready to address their daily tasks to keep the submarine running. So, now the only two people left are you and Law. Neither of you are speaking, which leaves you to nurse your tea and him to quietly eat his small breakfast, yet as you sit, you can’t help but let your mind wander back to the conversation being had before the rest of the crew filed out of the kitchen.
“Valentine’s Day is coming up,” said Bepo. “Should we decorate The Tang?” His expression was introspective, clearly considering the craftsmanship it would take to make some quick decorations.
Ikkaku smiled at the Mink. “We should! It’d brighten up the place.”
“Yeah, Bepo! I think that’d be fun!” You added, cheerily.
“Well,” Shachi said, voice suddenly serious. “If the Heart Pirates are celebrating the day of love…” He trailed off as he stood and climbed onto his chair and settled a foot on the table. He turned towards Penguin and threw his arm out dramatically.
“Penguin, will you do me the honor of being my Valentine?” Shachi asked with a stupid grin and a laugh.
Penguin stared at his partner in crime blankly, seemingly trying to decide how to best react to the absurdity of the situation. Finally, seemingly deciding the bit was worth his time, Penguin also climbed onto the table, throwing himself into Shachi.
“Of course! I thought you’d never ask!”
The two men stood on the table laughing as the rest of the crew laughed along from their seats.
“Get off the table, you two,” came a tired voice, and the laughter immediately died down.
Everyone’s attention is stolen by the man walking into the room.
“Sorry, Captain,” Shachi mumbled, getting down.
“Yeah, sorry, Captain,” Penguin echoed.
Law didn’t respond, just made his way further into the kitchen to feed himself, but anyone paying attention would catch the slight upturn of his lips.
Thinking about the previous conversation, you decide to fill Law in on what he had missed before walking in on Shachi and Penguin confessing their love to one another, and, if he doesn't totally blanch at the idea of the crew celebrating Valentine's Day, maybe shoot your shot (although, you're certain you won't meet Shachi's level of drama).
"The crew was talking about decorating the Tang for Valentine's," you say, breaking the comfortable silence that had settled amongst the two of you.
"Is that why Shachi and Penguin were moments from making out on the table?" Law asks, a small smirk on his lips but tone deadpan.
You giggle. "Yeah. You know them," you tease, "always a moment's notice from proving their love to the world."
Law huffs out air at your joke, amused.
"Speaking of..." You say, trailing off. Law raises an eyebrow in question.
"Do you have a date for Valentine's Day?" You ask, a little timid.
"February 14th," Law replies, returning to his breakfast.
You stare at your captain, a little dumbstruck. Did he really just—
"That's not—" You stop yourself and take a deep breath. "Never mind. See ya later, Captain," you say, excusing yourself from the table to go mind your chores for the day.
Law watches you go with a slight frown, confused as to why you're suddenly taking your leave.
...
After the confusing breakfast, Law goes about his business for the day. He checks on his crew, reads a little bit of the latest Sora issue he picked up, patches Shachi up when he hits his head after a failed "trick" (whatever that means), checks in on the Tang's course to the next island with Bepo, and (perhaps most importantly) he thinks long and hard about your odd behavior in the kitchen.
Why would they ask if I had a date for Valentine's Day? Valentine's is always on February 14th.
Maybe they were just confirming the date so that they could plan their timeline out for making the decorations? Surely, Bepo and them would want to plan that time efficiently...
But if they actually forgot the date, why would they say "never mind" and leave?
Then it hits him. In fact, the realization hits him like a ton of bricks. It hits him so hard, in fact, that he stops; rolls his head back and stares at the ceiling; and lets out the most pained, frustrated groan he can.
"They were flirting with me," he sighs aloud.
They were flirting with me and I missed it. Dumbass.
The realization that you had been flirting with him—asking him out, really—and he missed it rolls over him like a tide of irritation. So, Law makes up his mind in that moment that he needs to set things straight because no, he does not have a date for Valentine's. With this final thought, Law turns on his heel and starts wandering the Polar Tang in a desperate attempt to locate you.
Overall, it takes Law 4 minutes and 38 seconds to find you (like a nerd, he counted each second desperately, telling himself that each passing second was time he was wasting). When he finds you, you're in the kitchen, seated at the table just as you had been this morning, and laughing with Ikkaku.
Law says your name the moment he sees you as he walks in the door. Looking up at Law's desperate, out-of-breath voice, you raise your eyebrows in surprise before you fix him with a concerned look as his tone and alarmed manner sink in.
"Law, are you alright?" You ask, tone unsure.
"I... better go," Ikkaku says, quickly standing and walking out of the kitchen, leaving her empty plate behind in favor of giving the two of you privacy.
Law lets Ikkaku walk past him before taking a few desperate steps forward until he is standing directly across from you, bar the table between you.
"You were flirting," Law says bluntly.
You purse your lips rather than answer verbally, eyebrows pinching together as you stare up at him, brain scrambling to formulate a response. Before your brain can think to respond, however, Law continues.
"You were flirting with me and I missed it."
"Well, yeah," you say, dumbly.
Law takes a deep breath and lets it out slowly.
"I'm sorry. I should have picked up on that," he says.
"Yeah, you were a bit slow on the uptake there," you tease, but your voice is still unsure as your brain tries to make sense of the situation.
Law lets out a short laugh.
"Let me try again," he says. "Please?"
You smile softly at your captain and nod. "Yeah, sure.
"Law, do you have a date for Valentine's?"
Law smiles at the repeated question, relief flooding him as it settles that (a) you're not mad at him for not picking up on your flirtation earlier and (b) you're giving him a second chance. Even still, the pirate doctor's chest is swimming with nerves, so he takes a deep, steadying breath before answering.
"You, hopefully," he says, and his tone—so incredibly shy—makes you smile wider.
"Well, in that case," you say cheekily and stand from your seat. Then, quicker than Law can comprehend, you step up onto the bench; then on the table; take a step across the table; and jump down to the floor, landing right in front of him.
"What— I mean— Tch. Why didn't you just walk around the table?" Law asks, a brow raised.
You grin. "Over the table was faster, and I don't have the time to waste for this."
"For what?"
"This."
You raise up on your tiptoes and plant a kiss on Law's lips. When you pull away, Law's lips are slightly agape, his eyes gently flutter open, and he stares at you wonderstruck.
"Just a 'lil something for my Valentine," you tease.
monkey d. luffy
It's Valentine's Day and the Straw Hat pirates have found themselves on a quiet little island for the day. While each of the crew members went off to spend their days as they like, you and Luffy find yourself in a forest not too far from the port where the Thousand Sunny docked. You might have expected to at least go get dinner with your partner for Valentine's Day, but Luffy had insisted the best way to celebrate was for the two of you to go on a "Valentine's Day Adventure."
"Y/N!" Luffy screams your name excitedly from across the forest you're both exploring. "Y/N! Y/N! Y/N!"
"WHAT?!" You yell back, laughing at your partner's obvious enthusiasm.
Luffy scrambles over to you as quickly as he can, and the closer he gets, you start to make out something clutched in his hand.
As soon as he skids to a stop in front of you, huffing as he tries to catch his breath, Luffy holds out a large bug to show you. The bug is huge, weirdly shaped, and its legs are moving rapidly as it tries to escape. To be honest, it's a little gross and unsettling to look at, and it sends a shiver down your spine as you try not to blanch at it.
"Look, Y/N! It's a Giant Stag Beetle!!! Isn't it cool?!"
"Yeah, it's great, Lu," you say, hoping that he will take the creepy beetle far, far away from you now that he's shown it to you.
Instead, Luffy's already bigger-than-life grin widens as he looks at it excitedly before looking back at you, holding it out towards you still.
"It reminds me of you!" Luffy says with a laugh.
You try not to make a face. He did not just tell me that the nasty beetle reminds him of me. But, he did, and you have to take a minute to remind yourself that Luffy is not insulting you. He genuinely loves bugs, and if he loves something, then comparing you to it is a compliment, regardless of how unconventional or unsettling the comparison actually is.
"What do you mean it reminds you of me, Luffy?"
"I mean it's a really cool beetle! And you're really cool! And finding it made me happy! And finding you made me happy! So, it reminded me of you when I found it!"
"That's... actually sweet."
Luffy just laughs, still smiling, before planting a quick kiss to your cheek before running off in search of more bugs.
