Prompts Based Off My Stories #81
The man across from me had a very formal air about him. Everything from his clothes, to his posture, and even the tone of his voice exuded a quiet formality I'd never shown in my life.
"How has your father been?" the man finally asked, folding his hands in his lap. "Has he... enjoyed his life here?"
"Yeah." I nodded. "He's usually pretty happy, you know, content and stuff. Smiles a lot."
I bit my lip and tugged a loose string off my clothes. I pulled it between my fingers a few times to help alleviate some of the awkwardness I felt. It didn't really work.
"He smiles... often?" the man perked up, and the tips of his pointed ears rose slightly. "You mustn't share this outside these walls, but... I'm very pleased to hear it."
"Who are you?" I asked. "Dad's been, ya'know, kinda antsy since you arrived. He doesn't seem to dislike you, but I haven't seen him so nervous since that storm almost blew the coop away."
He chuckled, just barely, but I could see the corner of his mouth turn up. "You know, he gave up a lot to be with your mother. He gave up his home, family, title, and even the legal right to his own surname..." he trailed off, taking in my confused expression as his own face grew a touch more serious. "I'd say more on that, but its not really my place to do so before him. I may not work for him anymore, but I'd still like to think myself his friend."
