hello 🤎 praying you all are well! . it is impossible, for me, to situate even the most beautiful words together, in ANY language, to articulate my love for Jesus. i cry and am overwhelmed at His sacrifice for my transgressions. why!? why am i continuously forgiven!? why does He love us this way!? we don’t deserve it. . in my Bible study i paused on Ps. 103:12. at the risk of cherry picking scripture, it just reminded me of His infinite sovereignty. . 🍂...”as far the east is from the west, so far does He remove our transgressions from us.” . His boundless forgiveness does NOT give me permission to relax in my sin. i repent daily. i think it’s so salient to be reminded that although He forgives us, our sins still have consequences. these consequences are NOT His way of making us feel perpetually punished, but are in fact the result of disobedience & sin’s destructive nature. . Remember the way David suffered in 2 Samuel AFTER God forgave his sin completely!? i am flawed & i know that upon my repentance, but i have to prove to Him that in the forgiving of my transgressions that i am made anew IN HIM; that i am obedient to Him and not my flesh. . Yesterday, we talked about swapping our usual list of New Year’s resolutions for the simple, yet profound desire to be more like Jesus.⁣ ⁣ Of course, the big question is, “How do I do that?”⁣ ⁣ Because, let’s be honest, that’s a heck of a lofty goal. He’s way up there *gestures at sky* and we’re way down here *gestures at ground*.⁣ ⁣ But although he’s God, Jesus didn’t set an unattainable standard while he was on Earth. In fact, he was pretty practical in how he expressed his love for God and for other people.⁣ ⁣ Rather than stressing about how we’re not exactly like the Perfect Man, here are some everyday things we can do to better align ourselves with Jesus’ example.⁣ ⁣ ❤️ Get familiar with the Word by reading the Bible⁣ 🧡 Smile and say “hi” when you meet a stranger⁣ 💛 Keep snacks in your bag to give folks on the street⁣ 💚 Say “sorry” when you know you’re wrong⁣ 💙 Thank God for taking care of you before eating⁣ 💜 Add an extra 2% when you give (or start giving!)⁣ ⁣ See? Not scary or hard, right? So many people ask me how i overcame my eating disorder in college.

and so badly I want to hand them a magic solution and tell them it’s never crossed my mind again.

But Instagram doesn’t show you if people still struggle, so here we go: about three weeks ago, i noticed that i started thinking obsessively again. I started thinking ugly thoughts and saw pictures from the years I barely ate and wished I looked like that again.

And so I did the opposite of what I was tempted to do: I responded to those thoughts with a decision. I decided to pray. And then a bit later, i got together with a friend, to invest in someone else instead of sit in my wok thoughts. And those thoughts vanished.

So I guess what I’m trying to say is that it’s normal for thoughts to creep in. It’s normal to battle with your demons.

This life is a battle, and we have to be battle ready, wearing the full armor of God—not to avoid the struggle but to go to war with it. The insecure feelings will pop up from time to time. The temptations will loom overhead.

But I’ve learned that you don’t find freedom when you avoid the struggle, you find freedom when you overcome the choice to give the struggle power over you—over your thought life, and over your decisions.

Because it’s not about if the thoughts come, it’s what you do with those thoughts that determines if you’re free.

If you’re struggling:

1. Ask for help.

2. When you’re tempted to do something you know is toxic, something that hurts you, something that brings death, consider what the opposite of that thing is—and then do that.

Because the opposite of death is life. The antidote to your demons is the decision to stand in the divine power of God. The opposite to disordered eating is ordering your priorities, putting God in the center of them. The opposite of isolating yourself is invest in others. You only hurt yourself when your soul is starving. And the opposite of starving yourself is speaking truth and life into the emptiest places in your soul.

You don’t overcome the struggle by avoiding it. You don’t overcome the struggle by signing a truce with it and letting it live in your life. You overcome the struggle by spearheading it with Truth, accountability, action steps, and the sheer power of God.

The difference between me in college and me today is not that I never face the demons anymore. it’s this: i am battle ready. I don’t have to react. I can respond with authority, decisiveness, and power.

And so can you.

So, I’m sorry that I don’t have a magic solution for ya.

But I do have an answer: Jesus (every single time).
