#vampire anatomy

Moment of honesty. For the longest time, I thought vampire fangs just... grew longer when needed. You know, like stretching. Then I was like... Hold on. That doesn't make sense.

So here's what I figured: the fangs are actually pretty long already — they're just tucked deeper into the gums. So normally, they're hidden, and when they 'extend', they're just... matching the rest of the teeth

Heya its been a minute since I uploaded here

but I got an interesting one for you!

Vampire anatomy! Why make them exactly like humans? experiement! I made them Apex preditors worthy of the title. Here's what I did:

CONTEXT! Vampires in my world are entirely seperate to humans. They share an ancestor, but they evolved differently so they count as a seperate sub-species. A human to vampire conversion is possible but the result is nowhere near close to actual vampire anatomy. They do change to have aspects of vampires, but not as extreme. I shall show them soon! First up, the height!

I made Vampires siginificantly taller than humans. This is more of a rule-of-cool design aspect but it also does serve a purpose! Bigger usually means stronger and faster, which is ideal for hunting down those pesky humans. It also allows us to play with the proportions, as you can already see.

First up, I gave the vampires a much wider rib-cage, allowing them to have more air capacity. (They're longer too but the angle makes it seem shorter) → This means their stamina increases while running, and improve how long they can survive underwater. I also made the limbs strech out, like in the arms and legs. As well as making the bones thicker in some areas. → This not only adds to their height, but also increases speed - especially in long distance running. Because of both of these factors, it means most vampires will not only be able to catch up to / keep up with humans, but also overtake them easily. The increased air flow helping in their chase, on land and in water.

As with human skeletons, Vampires also have a variation between biological males and females. Mostly in the pelvis and ribs. NOW ONTO THE CHOMPERS!!

→ Vampires can extend their jaw down much further than any human. Which combined with their jaw strength makes any powerful bite from them a leathal force! → Their teeth structure is also obviously changed to fit the fangs. The fangs pertrude slightly, and the bottom teeth are angled to accommodate them.

That's all for now! But already I've taken a human and changed around their structure, skeleton, muscles and jaw to make them a more believeable threat. Already they look very different, and I hope to keep exploring their anatomy, alongisde my other monsters as well.

Some time ago I asked how the whole glittering in the sun worked and in your answer you mentioned that every vampire looks different in sunlight. You, for example, mentioned that Caius has a pearlescent look to him and now I've been wondering for a while what the other volturi would look like. Could you make like a list with pictures of what it would look like or if that is too much work (which I totally understand, so no pressure at all) just a list without pictures? Ah yes, I remember this question quite fondly.

It was difficult for me to find pictures that truly spoke to how I imagine their glow, so for now I have decided to answer it in written form. Volterran-Wine does in fact own a large crystal selection she has studied to find the right answers.

𝐀𝐫𝐨: The first you would see is a greenish hue, like oxidised copper. There would still be those hints of warmth however, with a discreet sheen of sparkle.

𝐂𝐚𝐢𝐮𝐬: He almost has a pearlescent finish to his skin and there’s a slight reddish hue when he enters certain types of light.

𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐮𝐬: They say he once shone more brightly in the sun, but now vampires compare this kings skin to dulled brass

𝐒𝐮𝐥𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚:  This queen shifts beautifully like the darkest garnet, with a glitter-like shift that leaves those around her spellbound when they see it.

𝐀𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐝𝐨𝐫𝐚: Many have compared her skin to the glint of steal, speckled with red like a bloodstone when the sun hits her just right.

𝐃𝐢𝐝𝐲𝐦𝐞: Once upon a time she resembled an opalite with a pinkish hue, now few remembers how vibrant of a sparkle Didyme once had.

𝐃𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐢: Our resident tracker resembles a bronze statue in it's prime, almost bordering on a golden hue, not unlike the crystal tigers eye.

𝐅𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐱: The way Felix shines in the sunlight is the same way a great mountain glimmers in a bronzed and golden glow if there are copper minerals deep within the earth. It is warm and inviting.

𝐉𝐚𝐧𝐞: Her glow is very particular, it is soft and almost has a translucent quality to it. The best way I can describe it is that Jane looks like living and breathing selenite.

𝐀𝐥𝐞𝐜: Seeing as though him and Jane share a lot of the same genetic makeup, they are quite similar. However, Alec has a slight blue-ish tint to his glow as well.

𝐇𝐞𝐢𝐝𝐢: This woman looks like an Opalite, come to life with a rosy hue beneath it all. Among the Volturi she is also one of the vampires who do in fact have a certain glitter to their skin.

𝐑𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐚: She is one of the few that partially glitter, though she gleams more if you ask those around her. If you look at Renata for too long it is like a duochrome of sienna and burnt orange.

𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧: Under the correct lighting Corin is like a pearl, but most of the time she looks like the iridescence you find inside of shells,

𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐬𝐞𝐚: She looks like a marble statue come to life, the softest glow you will ever see.

𝐀𝐟𝐭𝐨𝐧: Some say that Afton nearly looks like a silver statue when he moves under the sunlight, it is almost blinding with a soft blue-ish hue.

𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐠𝐨: He has this quality about his skin that is like smoky quartz, you expect it to be quite dark and dull-but the shifts in colorur is just out of this world. His tattoos almost seem to take up a life of their own when he steps under direct sunlight as well.

Ok so this is weird but has been on my mind for some reason. So vamps fangs are obviously very sharp. So I would assume that they would nick there inside of there cheeks a lot, but like wouldn’t they just immediately heal because there’s just a bunch of saliva in their mouth, and if so then would that drain them? Like yes it’s just two small cuts, but healing it over and over again might do something after awhile… and does vamp blood work on vampires? Like would they get relaxed from there own blood in there cheek? Or would the saliva coating the cheek act like a barrier and just prevent it from piercing. Completely random but just something to think about lol

WHOA. This is actually SUCH an interesting question! I never thought of this before!

I'd say that yes, healing even small cuts inside the mouth over and over again would drain a vampire's energy reserves over time and make them need to feed sooner, just like any other injury would (though cuts inside the mouth would heal much faster and use less energy overall, it would still take a toll on a vampire as time passes)

Not sure if they would get the same relaxed feeling though from drinking their own blood like humans do when tasting vampire blood. It's such a fascinating question to think about! I would think that maybe it does have the same effect though, and can be a method of self-soothing for vampires?

(I'd like to call upon the 🌹 Anon to maybe finish answering this one since they know a lot about vampires *cough* because they are one *cough*)

Eye of the beholder

So with the way vampires work not showing up in mirrors. Science says humans logically shouldn't be able to see them correct. With they way our eyes work.

So what if I propose that vampires as they are cursed to be such and the way that the mirrorthing works is that they cannot be seen bye that wich is not living. Are able to be seen only by the living and are unable to perceive themselves both in a literal sense of not being able to see themselves in the mirror and the fact that for all intensive purposes they are a human soul living far past its time.

idea a vampire who can only see them selves in the eyes of humans. They would try to avoid eating but like so many vampires they would need the blood. It is not a choice for them. So Over time they would begin to hate themselves for when feeding off of innocent people is the only time they can see what they look like. Logicly they would see themselves as ugly as violent as terrifying because thats what they are so they live like that. With no self to see they would grow deppressed as so many of us have they to would go to melancholy. Perhaps however This Vampire would maybe one day as so many often do find a lover a human or something similar who strikes their fancy who loves them who can see them for what the vampire truly is a person who was hurt and cursed with having their humanity stolen,and as they grow from this relationship maybe one day the Vampire on a day after long and difficult work. can see their own face for how beautiful it truly is only in the eye of the one that beholds them.

okay real question: im assuming that vampires dont have blood because why would they? theyre all undead and immortal, theyre super pale and cold to the touch, and they EAT blood, so if they thirst for blood they obviously dont have their own. also pale and cold, obviously they dont have blood.

so if they dont have blood, do they breathe? do they even need to breathe? cause gonna be honest here chat the only reason u breathe is to keep ur blood good to it can go to all the other organs in ur body and yadayadayada. soooooo. they must not need to breathe

also, what does the anatomy of a vampire look like? like.... are all their organs grey... are they stationary... do they magically disappear? whats goin on in their brain. how do they function. do they have special vampire "blood"? that is really more like a fluid? i wonder.......

idk, someone needs to give me answers NOW.
