Tanyl and his long cane/white cane! He rarely uses this, since his vocal echolocation works for him well enough, but in wide open spaces or when he’s overwhelmed, he finds the cane easer:)

Lego mobility aids!

I just finished making my first Lego Ideas project If you don't know how Lego Ideas works, if 10,000 people say that they would like to see the project as a set, the Lego company will review and it may be chosen to be made into an actual lego set.

As a disabled person, I often find myself wanting representation of mobility aids, but have never found myself satisfied with the scale and quality of existing representation. Lego has some delightful in situ rep, but has had no dedicated sets, and no adult-focused display models. As such, I've started taking matters into my own hands!

All support is so deeply appreciated, but most importantly please share to anyone/anywhere you think would appreciate!

In a setting with a quadrupedal species with human-like intelligence, how could guiding tools for a blind individual of that species work? Holding a white cane in a fore limb seems like it would be awkward. I'm thinking about stuff like ponies in my little pony and quadrupedal pokemon in a pokemon mystery dungeon type setting (where there are pokemon that have human-like intelligence, live in towns and such).

I'll try this out with a My Little Pony, since I think the hooves put them at an extra disadvantage with this. no grabby feet. Especially the non-unicorns. I think a unicorn could use that telekinesis to hold a cane, and so could any other quadruped with casual telekinesis.

When possible in the setting, having a guide animal could be helpful, and I know the ponies have this option but not all sapient quadrupeds do! in settings like the pokemon mystery dungeon games, there are no other animals, just pokemon.

my main thought here is a harness that can hold a pair of white canes, allowing a blind individual to navigate without having to swing a cane back and forth if their anatomy would make that difficult.

This can be modified to have more or less canes depending on how much range they'd need/want. For an individual who could also fly, like a pegasus, they might want an extra cane or two pointing in different directions, in a way that still allows for wing motion of course, because they have more dimensions of collision to worry about.

And of course, they'll rely quite heavily on all their other senses and any sighted companions they have.

hot take anyone who would benefit from a mobility aid deserves to have one. idc how disabled you are. if you think it’ll help you, even a little, you deserve it. you deserve that help.
