no you don’t get it. unpredictability is necessary, and it is so very beautiful. what a privilege to not know what to do, what to wear and how to be. what a privilege to wake up everyday, being so uncertain of everything. finding out is what gives meaning to life. to NOT know, is it be.

Somedays, it’s easy to be full of energy. It’s easy to leave your sheets, brush your teeth, pick out an outfit, call your mother. You’d switch your laptop on, open a document for school or work, and boom, time dilutes and dissolves. Hours go by and even if you did not get too much done, you know you tried. 

But what about the days when it doesn’t happen? What about when you cancel plans with a friend to check out that cafe they were interested in just because you’re bone tired? You didn’t do much physically, you just are. 

And how do you explain that to your friend? 

What about the days you mindlessly scroll down your social media even when the lines on your forehead spell out deadlines? How do you feel? 

Personally, I am consumed by guilt on such days. Feelings of being insufficient, of “wasting away” my days settle in my gut and refuse to leave. I’d like to know if you feel that way too. 

If you do, you’re not alone. We always talk about our accolades, the merit we made for ourselves, the hilltop we conquered, the fort we acquired. Let’s talk a bit about the steps we missed, the peaks we couldn’t see, the time we let slip from in between our fingers, just because it could slip. Just because we wouldn’t stop it. Just because it wouldn’t stop for us either. 

Pause with me for a bit. Fill up your lungs with a long breath that I know you haven’t taken in a while. Listen to me. 

You are worthy, even if all you did today was get out of bed.

Considering that because of food safety standards its illegal to go to work while sick, it should equally be illegal to punish someone for calling in sick when they have no sick time left (or in any case really). What in the double standard.

Death poets society

A series of mine. A series to an empty audience. Where instead of the applause of the audience, i will be returned the applause of the silence. I will perform to empty seats except this time. I'm not exactly performing. I'm just embracing myself.

The 'performance' I'm talking about here is writing. I will write write-ups, atleast once a week. Maybe five times. Maybe twice. Who knows how many times. Write-ups about anything and everything. And this account with little to no audience will be my stage. I hate the audience.

Gods and Titans: an analysis of mythological connotations and potential foreshadowing for some of the main characters of Arcane (cross posted from Discord and Reddit)

(Arcane S1 discussed; light lore spoilers ahead)

1. Jayce= Mercury

When I learned that Jayce's Hextech weapon was named the Mercury Hammer, I was so confused. He's an inventor- shouldn't he be analogous to Hephaestus? The blacksmith?

Then I realized: Jayce isn't Hephaestus. Victor is Hephaestus (more on that later). And Mercury fits Jayce incredibly well:

- god of financial gain, commerce, eloquence, communication

- god of travel, travelers, boundaries, messages

- a guide of souls to the underworld

Mercury has a very large sphere of influence- like Jayce. His domain crosses between worlds- like the power of Jayce's decisions over Piltover and Zaun. He's the god of finance, commerce, merchants, boundaries- all things Jayce suddenly gains almost absolute control over, very quickly. Mercury's symbol, the caduceus, is a symbol of balanced exchange and negotiation. Jayce has been trying to find this balance all season. He'll probably keep trying to find that balance as Piltover and Zaun inch closer and closer to war.

(Given the size of his domain, I always thought that Mercury/Hermes might be spreading himself a bit too thin. Just like Jayce, trying to please everyone).

2. Meanwhile, Victor=Hephaestus (AKA Vulcan)

This one is easy. Hephaestus is the Greek god of metallurgy and craftsmanship. He was cast out of Olympus as a baby by his mother because of his crippled leg. Hephaestus also prefers the company of his work and his automatons over the company of others. Who else does that fit to a thematical T?

3. Vi=Atlas (for the Atlas gauntlets)

The only Titan analogy in this list makes sense; the Titans predate the Olympians, the same way Zaun predates Piltover. It’s a common misconception that Atlas carries the weight of the world on his shoulders. That's not true- Atlas was sentenced to carry the weight of the sky. He stops the sky and the earth from ever meeting (the sky and the earth are married and evil, btw), bc if the weight of the celestial sphere of the heavens fell, everyone on earth would be crushed. The heavens=Piltover, Earth and Tartarus (Hell)=Zaun.

Vi does carry a huge weight on her shoulders, but she's also metaphorically upholding Piltover (maybe a hint toward her future job as an enforcer? Growing into her role as an upholder of the peace?). In S2, Vi might just be what keeps Piltover from crashing down onto the Undercity- and vice versa.

4. Caitlyn=Artemis

Cait’s heavily associated with marksmanship. Her flashback tool place in the wintery outdoors. Artemis is the goddess of the moon, so it might also be symbolic of her willingness to descend into dark places and/or bring light to dark places. In the mythology, Artemis is a protector of women and children. She and her Hunters also hunt down the monsters that threaten the olympians and the common people. If they bring Ezreal into S2, that would automatically make him Apollo.

5. Jinx= Dionysus??

Dionysus is the god of madness (hi Jinx) and wine (purple stuff that lowers your inhibitions), and one of his most famous acts was turning a bunch of pirates into dolphins. She's got that sea life association working for her thru Silco + fishbones the shark cannon.
