I’ve reblogged her before, but really, you can’t have too many dark-skinned Black queens on your dash.
I do think the ability to emoji-react is a net win for human communication. not only does it give you an outlet for 'I see and acknowledge this but don't have a verbal response' but it also adds a pleasing alethiometer element to things
my coworker announces that he's off to the dentist. someone reacts with a tooth emoji. is this a statement of dentist solidarity? a wish for my coworker to return with more (or fewer?) teeth than he set out with? simple word association? who can say
I have a baby cousin who's Two Spirit.
Their parents are leftists, open minded, pro LGBTQ+, learned to use the right pronouns (to their face at least) all that jazz.
Their Auntie grew up in a remote area, little old fashioned, doesn't really "get" the non binary thing, and hasn't quite got the hang of the singular 'they' yet. But she tries.
When my cousin got injured and couldn't drive their parents shrugged and told them to quit their job.
Their Auntie drove them to and from work every day until they got their cast off.
Which family member do you think they'll ask next time they need help?
Do you want to be ideologically perfect, or do you want to help?

Primus Tachonis's celestial making is like those crazy people on recipe blogs that substitute half the ingredients for something else because they like that ingredient better and then wonder why the dish didn't turn out right.
★☆☆☆☆ 1/5
Do Not try this recipe!!! My family doesn't really like Tansul so I substituted the offering to the sun with a hand-made call to serve my house, I left out the blood pool because fighting Azgra isn't a part of our lifestyle, and tried to add in some destruction of the Old Path to make up for it, and it turned my niece into a half-undead scorpion angel! I then tried again with my son, using an obelisk because I didn't want to go all the way to Tannesar, and halfway through he just said no, which ruined several of the expensive ingredients. NEVER trying again... worst recipe I've ever seen
Bitch really is the distillation of a lifetime spent devoid of consequences or being challenged.
As an adult I think me and all my friends should all have matching schedules and work like 20 hours a week and also everyone lives within 15 minutes of each other why is that so much to ask
Got into a discussion about emergency response at a professional retreat recently and everyone was going on and on about agility, and I was like, "Okay but what about contingency?"
And they were like "What?"
And I was like, "Agility isn't the ultimate form of preparedness. Contingency is. Agility still requires you to flounder and figure out a solution in the moment, but if you have a contingency plan, all you have to do is implement it."
And they were like "But you can't make contingency plans for every situation!"
And I was like, "Yeah, you basically can if you just identify all of your basic dependencies and contingency plan around the loss of any dependency," and then I gave a few examples.
And they all stared at me like I'm an alien.
Anyway, that's how I figured out I'm Batman-coded and also learned how Batman must feel talking to supposedly professional superheroes who never bothered to run disaster scenarios until I pointed out that it's insane that they don't already have a plan for if Superman turns evil.
There’s a phrase that really stuck in my head around this. It was from one of the British divers who enacted the Thai caving rescue, though I couldn’t tell you which one or which interview.
As he described to the interviewer a moment of panic and how he he overcame, the interviewer said, in one of those, summarise-last-answer-given-with-appropriate-levels-of-respect-in-order-to-proceed-to-next-question phrasing’s, “Wow, so you rose to the occasion -“
And the diver said, “No, actually people always get that exactly wrong. In an unexpected and urgent situation you don’t rise to the occasion. You sink to the level of your training.”
momentarily had the thought “shout out to my platonic harem” and then remembered that’s called friends
Wow that's a really big gecko
The Pitt but it stars me on a quiet night in medsurg. One episode is a full hour of me and a patient in near perfect silence as I spoon feed them pudding, another pudding, ice cream, back to yet again to pudding (can’t beat the classics), and two servings of mashed potatoes from our frozen meatloaf dinner (hold the meatloaf). At the end of this Dionysian orgy of a midnight snack, the patient reveals they could hold a fork and lift their arm this whole time. The next episode is me supervising the consumption of a third potion of mashed potatoes. All the gif sets from that episode are the moments where I help hold the plate. FIGS does not make me a tuxedo to wear to the emmys.
And next episode? Ooh baby that’s just crosswords. And the crossword? Ooh baby it’s exclusively the la times crossword because that’s the only one not blocked by our work filter. A call light goes off but someone else gets there before I can stand up. Five minutes of the episode is me googling baseball acronyms. There are so many goddamn baseball acronyms.
sounds very similar to a radio story i heard in 2014 ago about credit card debt. the debt got sold to a collection company and a couple received a court summons. they knew they had taken on debt, but they were confused about who this new company was and where specifically the number they were supposed to owe came from.
they show up in court and just ask the lawyer for the collection company: can you prove where this number comes from? Do you have a contract showing that you purchased our debt? probably luckily for them, a reporter researching a book on the topic showed up and asked the same questions.
10 minutes later they get in front of the judge and the collection company drops the whole case and theyre free to go. story is below, it has a transcript in the link too
