This cow is severely underconditioned.
This is not how a healthy lactating Holstein looks
I know dairy cows can be skinny looking… but that cow appears outright emaciated. And that means the calf is going to be underfed as well. Stupid ARAs clamoring about abuse when there is none and then celebrating abuse as ‘good’ when actually faced with it.
Holsteins are bred to metabolise everything to produce as much milk as possible, hence appearing thin. Checked out the FB page, literally been days since the cow jumped off a slaughter truck and gave birth, after being in the dairy industry?? Of course she’s not going to look the best. The whole point is the sanctuary saved her and her calf from being killed??? If you watch the video the calf appears fine in its movements and behaviour. What abuse is being done to a cow in an animal sanctuary??
The word sanctuary means nothing. Any place can call itself a sanctuary. Having an arbitrary word attached to their name doesn’t mean they take good care of their animals, as exhibited by 90% of ‘big cat sanctuaries’.
The calf is six weeks old. The cow has been at the sanctuary for six weeks. She looked much better in earlier photos.
The abuse is “they’re not fucking feeding her right”, probably giving her shitty hay because grain is eeeeebil. She also probably has some sort of illness, such as Johnes. Or a retained placenta or some other issue, which if you watch the horrid video of the man pulling the calf the way he did it was bound to cause issues.
And yeah the calf looks ok, they’re almost definitely giving it bottles of milk replacer because the mom is probably dry.
Remember when a woman’s horses were taken “into care” bc an AR group decided that because she offered pony rides and riding horses for rent she was “abusing” them? And then the group that was supposed to be caring for them left them with rotting piles of hay and no water and minimal shelter for weeks while their owner was banned from going out and feeding and caring for them?
AR groups and the AR fandom have never cared about aninals. They care about their OWN image first and foremost and being right All Of The Time trumps any actual animal care. Of course this cow isnt auffering in this “sancutary"s care bc they are Good Moral Animal People, who cares that she is literally wasting away. Good Moral Animal People Power!
@keyhollow you’re the person I know who I think has the most animal knowledge, any speculation on whether or not the momma cow is healthy?
Mom cow is underweight and udders are underfilled. The cow babe is difficult because of the fluffy winter coat, but I’d guess healthy. Honestly the baby should be fitted with a feeder tag so it can stay with momma, but so momma can also gain and perk up much faster, especially if they’re already bottle feeding.
Vegans who don’t know fucking shit about how animals should be properly cared for both fascinate and infuriate me.
