Finding a combo for a card that never needed a combo...
Thanks to @knowledge-exploitation and @commandtower-solring-go for sharing the card and then bringing it to my attention, respectively, I decided to figure out a combo with this big guy…
This is a beefy wurm right here. There isn’t much else to say about it. But wait, Worldspine Wurm has a death trigger? Ooh baby! Let’s abuse this.
First of all, we need a way to kill it but bring it back. If we can remove Worldspine Wurm from the graveyard before its shuffle ability resolves (which Gatherer rules inform me is possible), then we can prevent it from shuffling back into the library.
Well it’s easiest to just bring it back to the battlefield and cut a corner, isn’t it? Two abilities do just that, and those are Persist (-1/-1 counters) and Undying (+1/+1 counters).
Well, since I know of a useful card that removes -1/-1 counters, let’s go with Persist.
Spending 2 mana of any kind to give Worldspine Wurm persist repeatedly seems doable. Then we remove the -1/-1 counters with Quillspike.
Spending another mana to do this combo? This might get out of hand… Well fear not, because I will make this combo a 1 mana spent combo each time it’s done!
We can sacrifice the Worldspine Wurm with Ashnod’s Altar!
Ashnod’s Altar (which is seeing a reprint in EMA) allows us to sacrifice a creature (the Worldspine Wurm with persist) to generate 2 colorless mana. Once we have the Worldspine Wurm back on the battlefield, we can spend that two mana to give it persist again, then spend either a Black or Green mana to remove that -1/-1 counter from it and then sacrifice it again! This combo is essentially spending 1 Black or Green mana to make three 5/5 green Wurms with trample!
I would play this in my own playgroup more, but we are wrath-heavy and some people use stifle. Hope you guys abuse this one!
Sorry to rain on your parade, but the Scarecrow says “white” on it and Wordspine Wurm is green ):
You know, you’re absolutely right. There are ways to make it white though, and Cauldron of Souls also gives creatures persist. But nice catch!

A Temur card that can inherently combo, better than gifts...
By “inherently combo”, I mean this card can not only bring you a combo, it can be cast via combo.
My group has used this card for a bit and it’s a fun one. Since MaRo said revealing your library was a difficult mechanic to use for new cards, I’ve been sitting with this card stuck in my head.
This is the most unique tutor in game, and it only works in Temur colors. You know what that means... EDH!!!
Two commanders that work wonderfully with this card are Maelstrom Wanderer (which will be featured in Eternal Masters!!) and Riku of Two Reflections.
How Guided Passage becomes part of the combo is you reveal it with Cascade from Maelstrom Wanderer’s ability. That is a triple tutor for free, if you asked me!
With Riku, you can combo the card with his copy ability! YOU GET 6 CARDS FOR 5 MANA!! 6 CARDS!! 5 MANA!! THE VALUE!!! One of my best friends runs this card in his Riku of Two Reflections artifact deck and it kicks ass, since he gets two artifacts, one being a creature, and usually an artifact land.
This card is really cheap and I totally recommend purchasing it for any Temur deck. PS: Tumblr text formatting can be a pain in the ass.
is presence of gond and midnight guard a legal combination? because I doubt wizards would allow infinite 1/1 elf warriors...
Completely legal. Enchant the Guard with Presence of Gond. Tap it to make an Elf, which untaps the Guard, so you can tap it again to make an Elf, which untaps the Guard etc etc for as many times as you want.
There are worse infinite combos out there. The Elves don’t have Haste, so you can just Wrath and kill them all before they can attack. Or you can just kill the Guard when he taps to make the first Elf.
This is actually a fringe combo deck in Pauper
“fringe” is a funny way to say “garbage”.
It’s actually really good in Pauper when you run Captured Sunlight and a lot of exiling enchantments. x)
Turning -1/-1 counters into +3/+3 until end of turn activations...
I like having big creatures that can kill on turn 4. Don’t we all? And I’m not even gunna use blue...
This guy, Quillspike, likes to filter -1/-1 counters away from your creatures. That’s really cool to use with Persist creatures and all, but how can we just keep generating -1/-1 counters instead? We’re also gunna need a lot of mana to keep activating this filter...
Devoted Druid gives us that mana when tapped. We can also then use Devoted Druid’s second ability to untap her and put a -1/-1 counter on her. Awesome!
So keep untapping devoted druid and tapping her for mana to activate Quillspike and make Quillspike the biggest butt anyone has ever seen. And all this before turn 5...
From reddit user phoenixmike, on /r/EDH (https://www.reddit.com/r/EDH/comments/4j16og/pulled_off_an_amazing_combo_with_my_superfriends/)
Because we needed more reason to use Deadeye Navigator in EDH...
SO LET’S START WITH INFINITE MANA!!!
Soulbond Deadeye Navigator to Palinchron, continuously bouncing each of them to continuously untap your lands and net 5 mana per flicker.
This is a really common infinite mana combo in Blue EDH. But I like ETB effects in EDH, and so does my friend playing Maelstrom.
Let’s look at some great options in every different color for ETB effects, starting with the face of EDH, SAD ROBOT!!
Now that we have infinite mana, let’s dump all our basic lands! WHEEEE!
Or instead, we can filter our graveyard back into our hand and dump those cards back onto the battlefield! All we need is an Eternal Witness!
Let’s load this battlefield up with creatures now!
And tokens will do just fine!
Flickering sure is fun, but what if I want cards out of my own library I don’t yet have?
The answer is simple. Play black!
It’s a Demonic Tutor on a stick!
So what about getting rid of other peoples’ libraries? We love blue, clearly, let’s put it to use!
Milling every other players’ libraries seems a little mean, though… right?
NOT MEAN ENOUGH!!!
LET’S DESTROY EVERYONE’S LANDS!! HAHAHAHAHAHA I have no friends.
Deadeye Navigator is degenerate….if you play it degeneratly. If your playing U/B and you are using black tutors to go grab DN…you’re a dick. If your playing U/G and you use a creature tutor to go get DN…you’re an asshole. If you’re playing….you get the point. I play a mono-blue deck with exactly 0 ways to tutor creatures. DN combos with about 4 cards in there in rather bad ways. 1. It isn’t going to happen every game because DN doesn’t come in every game. 2. If it does happen…don’t be a dick. Limit yourself to 1 extra turn instead of infinite. Use the drake, whale, or palincron to get 15 or 20 mana, not infinite. Use it with the robot to grab 3 extra lands…not all of them. The moral: commander is supposed to be fun. Don’t be a dick.
I’m sorry you feel this way about Deadeye Navigator, but as with EDH, there are always options to stop it from comboing out. Additionally, these combos aren’t meant to differentiate between friendly, casual, competitive, or any type of combo, they’re just combos that work. I didn’t mean to make the main promotion of this post Deadeye Navigator, but since the combo revolved around him it was pretty unavoidable. My main focus was to promote some lesser known ETB cards that don’t get used enough in EDH (I feel). Avalanche Riders, Merrow Witsniper and Captain of the Watch were the cards to promote, the Rune-scarred Demon and Eternal Witness are really well known and common includes in EDH, but I included those because people can search my page for tags, and people might want to find combos with these cards for abusing.
An important thing to know about EDH is it’s heavily local meta driven, meaning your playgroup dictates what combos are good or bad to play, morally and by rules. My local meta promotes combo decks and combo-hate decks, which is where I get a lot of my combos from (players playing out some stupid combo options).
It’s important to know what combos belong where, and I try to venture outside of EDH more, but most combos are from sets that don’t fit in the same format normally, while EDH permits all.
I hope this reasoning clears things up for you. Don’t hate on people for playing out cards that can be abused, simply find ways to prevent combos from happening! It’s certainly possible! Draw well!
Reblogging here to the page I meant to respond on.
My favorite politics combo
We all know Hive Mind. The most glorious card for chaos!
Well, this card is very capable of many things! I have been wanting to build a politics deck lately centered around this card. This card, Paradigm Shift, is the reason why…
I think you get it now. Exile everyone’s libraries? It’s the best way to screw people over! But where does politics play into this??
If you follow Paradigm Shift up with any counter spell, everyone will receive a Paradigm Shift and a counterspell on the stack. Everyone, in priority order, will then select a target spell (whether it is someone’s Paradigm Shift [copy] or their counterspell [copy]) and collectively the table gets to choose who to screw over by exiling their library/libraries.
This combo will really only work in EDH, but it’s a fun casual combo to play out!
I’m bringing this combo back to everyone’s attentions to ask...
Has anyone done this combo yet? Please? I need to know how the table reacted!!
Because we needed more reason to use Deadeye Navigator in EDH...
SO LET’S START WITH INFINITE MANA!!!

Combo of the Day (5-1-16): $0.99 Lim-Dul’s Vault - $0.63 Near-Death Experience - $0.36
With Near-Death Experience on the field, cast Lim-Dul’s Vault during your upkeep in response to Near-Death trigger. Pay all but one life, let Near-Death resolve, win!
Pauper infinite life com- wait did you just say “pauper” and “infinite”?
Yes. Pauper, too, has infinite combos. It’s time to promote some Pauper!
Yeah, Oreskos Sun Guide definitely seems like a good pauper card. Life is neat to have in pauper. So how can we just untap it as much as we want to keep gaining that two life?
Freed from the Real is a common??? WHAAAAAT!? Yes, it’s pauper legal! And for U, you can untap the Oreskos Sun Guide for easy life. But wait... How was it tapped to begin with?
Let’s get it to produce mana!
Now, here is how most formats would go about having creatures produce mana: Paradise Mantle.
Oh, but wait, Paradise Mantle is uncommon. There goes our mana production...
BOOM! Enchantments are just as good to me! Now Oreskos Sun Guide has “tap to add one mana of any color to your mana pool”! Tap the guide to make a U, use that U to untap via Freed from the Real. You just gained two life. Now go ahead and do it again! And Again! And Again! ... You get the idea.
LONG LIVE PAUPER!
It also seems I will be back at the magic combos now! What I was busy with no longer matters because the Flyers lost... RIP.
Budget Combo of the Day: Perilous Forays & Roil Elemental Breaking the Bank at: $2.29 (as of 2/16/16)
This combo is a simple but sweet “board wipe”: 1) Have both cards on the field 2) Play a land, steal an opponent’s creature 3) Sacrifice said creature to Forays, repeat step 2 as necessary.
This also works well with Amulet of Vigor (If you really have the $$ to drop)!
My posts have become less frequent as of late...
I think of this page every day and what combos I can post for everyone to see and know. I’m not forgetting to post, I’m just distracted as of late by “higher” priorities.
More posts will combos will come soon! I promise!
Can I sacrifice Dryad Arbor with The Gitrog Monster and gain an experience counter from Meren of Clan Nel Toth? Can I then return Dryad Arbor to the field with Meren's second ability?
Yes, you can sacrifice Dryad Arbor to Gitrog to draw a card in your upkeep.
Yes, this triggers Meren’s ability and gives you an experience counter.
Yes, you can return Dryad Arbor to the battlefield with Meren’s ability on your end step.
…And 40 lands. X)
10 cards away from finishing this deck. I’m hoping to play it this coming Friday.
Does This actually work? If so, I need it so badly.
From goldfishing, the deck will always get cards it needs. 7 land hands are actually pretty uncommon. I’m gonna develop a sideboard and test on cockatrice today.
What library?
