And when they cut your pay/hours/benefits for no reason maybe you can get your XBOX to collectively bargain your employer for you with the help of your PlayStation. Wow! Thanks XBOX!
And dues are assigned on a sliding scale so you would have to be making absolute fuckin bank to be expected to contribute 700 a year
Workers at #Delta have responded to the company’s anti-union propaganda with their own campaign.
So I worked in the Grainworker’s Union for seven years in the late Nineties, and let me tell you… WORTH EVERY PENNY. I have worked so many jobs where my boss tried to pull some stupid fucking shit, from pulling me in every day off I had because they were “so short-staffed!!” (but then not paying me overtime even); to changing the schedule after it was up and yelling at me for not realizing I now worked on my day off when they changed it after I left on my Friday; to not giving me time for lunches; to having less than eight hours between my night shift the evening before and my opening shift the next morning; to mopping in fucking mandatory 2″ minimum high heels. And the union job was the only one where, when they tried to pull shit (because they still do and always will), I could just say “Okay,” and call up our Shop Steward, and say, “He wants me to take my lunch break “in between” changing out the heavy sacks I’ve been emptying every ten minutes all morning, and I need to sit down for thirty goddamned minutes and eat and rest,” and they go, “Okay,” and call my boss back, and then the boss calls you up and goes, “Okay, yeah, just shut down the machines and take your lunch.”
Unions are fucking awesome. The union got us bumped up to danger pay when the job (in a highly explosive environment) used to be minimum wage, in a business where I have literally had a supervisor tell us that if we could keep everything running smoothly with no delays that shift and get everything scheduled loaded up onto the boat, that we’d pull in a full million. For that one shift. Fuck yes, pay us fairly to risk our lives for you!
Back in the Eighties, it wasn’t just government and public sector workers that were unionized, it was around 60% of most jobs in the US (and I believe similar numbers here in Canada), and things were on track to have pretty much everyone unionized when Reagan took over and did everything he could to kill them off. Remember “trickle-down economics”? The idea that if you allow individuals and corporations to make obscene amounts of money, they’d turn around and pump that money back into their businesses and the local economies and benefit everyone, and not just fill out their own bank accounts? How well did that work out?
Thanks to our union, our income was tied to inflation. When inflation rose, so did our hourly wage, by the same amount. Recalculated annually. Afternoon shift? Extra dollar an hour. Night shift? $1.50. Boss tries to make you do something stupidly unsafe? Or make you work through your break? Forget it.
Unions have your back; unions make them behave; unions would stop Jeff Bezos from forcing his employees to pee in goddamned jars rather than taking breaks. Unions are what made the minimum wage a living wage. Union-busting is why it isn’t a living wage anymore, why you have to work two or more full-time jobs to break even in the city, let alone get ahead.
Unions are worth a hell of a lot more than the price of an Xbox paid out over twenty-one paycheques a year at no interest.
Unions or guillotines, Jeff, Delta. You choose. Or we will. And we are getting angry.
A response to the first sign:
“<— WHO PROFITS FROM YOU THINKING LIKE THIS? Hint: it’s not you.”
Delta commissioned that sign. Delta paid for its design and printing. Delta posted it. Think about what’s in it for Delta.
They would not bother posting signs like that if the unions did nothing for you, because the unions doing nothing for you wouldn’t cost them anything. It wouldn’t cost them more pay, or the cost of better working conditions, or the cost of not being able to step all over you the whenever and however it’s convenient for them.
That $700 video game console doesn’t prevent them from profiting more at your direct expense, and that’s the only reason they have any interest in your entertainment purchases.
They are not interested to see you happy with your new video game console. They are interested to see you unprotected. They are interested to see you sell your sword and shield for magic beans that only work in video games. They are interested in you consoling yourself with a new game (paid for by you) when they fuck with your hours or tell you you don’t get a raise this year, again. They’re interested to see their profitable unfairness made only your problem.
Your interest lies in joining the union and making it theirs.
I run dnd for a bunch of teenagers at the public library twice a month, and I created a character for them to like, and my teens are so obsessed with this rat that speaks common that they paid for him to go to college, and about once a week one of them comes in to the library to show me a cute picture of a rat that reminded them of him.
God this story is so blessed thank you

@the-kalamity-kid YES. I didn’t even try and make him that way initially. There just needed to be a sympathetic character for the other character in the RP to interact with and he’s what popped out. I definitely use him like that now. Glad people like him as much as I do.
No. You dont pay people to exist for the same reason you dont feed the bears.
Yeah man if I give the 50 year old lady at my bus stop some spare change for fare and a meal she’ll lose interest in foraging for desiccated salmon carcasses and lose her natural fear of people. Next thing you know she’s in the suburbs, running around on all fours trying to eat a corgi

If you heard of writer's block, get ready for reader's block. You want to read. You have time. You know what to read; how have a pile of books ready to be read. You cannot sit still and focus enough to do so or you can't even open the book.
HUGE ADHD mood
also huge depression mood

“If it’s about a dad dating other dads, how come some of them have kids???”
everyone stop reblogging the chains that don’t include the trans flag challenge

THIS IS THE BEST COMMERCIAL EVER
I’ve reblogged this so many times because I truly think every parent should involve themselves with what their child enjoys.
Not to mention this is an act of solidarity. He’s saying “even if the entire world is against you, I’m on your side.” Which I think is important for a kid to know. He’s refusing to be a bully to his child, even if he doesn’t understand.
I work at Hot Topic and we had a white suburban dad in who was buying matching heavy metal/screamo band shirts for him and his teenage daughter and said “To be honest, I think this stuff sounds like garbage, but she likes it so we listen to it together and we’re going to the concert for Christmas.” And it was just really heartwarming to see him so involved in his child’s life and validating her interests.
I WILL NEVER NOT REBLOG THIS.
“I don’t get it, but I love how you love it” is one of the best things anyone can say. My entire family asks questions about comics because they want to share my enthusiasm for them and support me, even though they otherwise wouldn’t pay attention to the industry at all.
I cried when I first saw this
This is amazing and really important
I went though a goth faze in my teens (like most) and I wanted more than anything to paint my room black. My mom was supportive of my personal expression in terms of my clothes and hair and accessories but she was genuinely concerned about the toll a black room would take on my mental health (I was already prone to recurring depression at that point and still am). I begged for months to repaint my room, but she wouldn’t budge.
One weekend i spent with my dad and when I came back she had repainted my room. A beautiful deep blue on three walls (my favourite colour), lovely sky blue on the ceiling, and one wall was black. The black wall had been sanded smooth and painted with several coats of chalkboard paint. She gave me a couple boxes of chalk and told me to have at it. I LOVED that black wall and wrote on it every day. I drew on it, I doodled, I wrote out my favourite emo song lyrics, wrote reminders for myself, anything I wanted. It was my favourite part of my room and was something that it would have never occurred to me to ask for. It was something only my very creative and clever mom could have come up with and I’m still grateful to her for it.
In retrospect, a room of black walls would indeed have been encouraging a reacurrence of my depression and my moms answer was the perfect compromise. That black wall ended up being the most colourful part of my room.
This whole post
This is how I try to live; I’m absurdly enthusiastic about everyones hobbies, because if they’re sharing it with you that means they want you to hear about something they think is important!

The DREAM
I distinctly remember the first time my dad called me my right name. I was sixteen, I’d gotten my driver’s license not too long ago, and now that I was driving, my dad gave me a credit card so I could get gas, or food if I was staying late at school due to marching band. He was very clear, this card was for food and gas only. Only gas and food. Just those two categories of product. He would be checking the bill. I had no desire to buy anything else with this card.
However. Often when getting food after marching practice, or on our scant breaks, I’d drive my friends to burger king or little ceasers or starbucks or whatever, and sometimes not all of my friends could afford the food they wanted. And well…food is food. I have a big appetite, and as long as I didn’t go crazy overboard and order catering for the whole band, a few extra burgers and shakes wouldn’t stand out on a monthly bill. So I bought my friends food.
I did this for several months, and sometime during that came out to my parents. They both thought it was a phase, and that I would grow out of it. Since they’re not terrible people their approach to me having ‘a boy phase’ was to let me do my thing and wait for me to change my mind. I didn’t change my mind, and eventually they understood that, but that’s a whole other post. The point is my dad didn’t discourage me from transitioning, but avoided talking about it with me. He stopped calling me his daughter, but replaced it with child rather than son, that kind of thing.
But back to the credit card. Eventually I started feeling guilty. TECHNICALLY I was obeying the rule ‘food and gas only’, but I knew I was bending it. I nervously admitted to him one day that sometimes…on occasion…once in a while… I’d buy a friend food. I waited solemnly for his judgement. He walked over to me, put his hands on my shoulders, looked into my eyes sternly and said,
“Zackary, we are Italian. If you let your friends go hungry….” (and here he decided to shake me just for a little emphasis) “I will disown you.”
And that’s when I knew he’d come around. Trans? Fine okay sure, give it a shot. Stingy? Get the fuck out.
The difference between my summer skin tone and my winter skin tone makes me hesitant to believe any skin bleaching rumors about celebrities tbh
You look better light skinned tbh
Ya know at first I was just gonna reply with a clever retort along the lines of “you would sound a lot smarter with your mouth closed”, and call it a day. But tbh I’m not mad at you for saying that, I pity you. You’re just another black woman thats been brainwashed by the media into having that “lightskin is the rightskin” mentality. Hopefully one day you’ll open your eyes and realize that beauty isn’t just Beyonce and Rihanna but also Naomi Campbell, Gabrielle Union and Lupita Nyong’o.😊😌

I’ve traveled to a lot of unique places around the Southwest, and I’ve seen plenty of strange things. But believe me when I say that nothing I’ve encountered so far has made me quite so uncomfortable as this creepy hotel in the tiny town of Tonopah, Nevada, 200 miles from Las Vegas.
What a profound mystery. Is it owned and operated by clowns? Is it open only to clowns and clown truckers driving very tiny trailers? What’s the rate for 16 clowns in one room? Why is it located directly next to a graveyard?
Bruh moment this is literally an SCP
I am just now realizing that the sign and smaller stand are mirrored but the words are not mirrored

If your favorite thing in cartoons as a kid was bad guy joining the good guys, you are definitely queer now.
If you were also disappointed at the bad guy being less bad after joining the good guys, you’re additionally queer in the sense of “my list is too long and I’m tired of explaining it.”
