For the sake of things making sense, some things have been changed around to fit. Iron Lung and Project Hail Mary are in the same universe, the dying stars aren't an issue in this case.

Rocky is absolutely involved in this because it wouldn't be the same without him.

Rocky:

- Main goal was to travel to find a solution to save Erid from a strange disease

- Rocky is engineer

- His ship of 23 other eridians was shot down

- Goal is to rebuild ship

- Potentially disarm the laser

- Rocky cannot get past the color puzzle @zanyanimegirl99

Grace:

- scientist turned teacher on earth.

- Yep his thesis still called leading scientists a staggering waste of carbon

- People have contracted Kharaa

- Stratt brings Grace onto the team

- Grace asked to analyze sample

- Sample is traced back to 4546B (Filament Station had been developing a cure but it was lost there)

- Grace unknowingly kinda becomes like second in command on team.

- Instead of an explosion, DuBois and Shapiro got exposed to Kharaa and unfortunately a faster strain of it.

- Grace is forced to go

- Grace has amnesia

- The Hail Mary does not crash into the ocean of 4546B, but instead on land.

- The Hail Mary is still useful

- The Hail Mary instead of having a centrifuge has a sub (cyclops)

- Stratt is aware it's mostly ocean thanks to former contact with the COI and their scientists

- Grace bad pilot. Statement.

Simon: Events happen before arrival of Grace

- Eden and COI exist (orbit 4546B but aware last ship sent went mia years ago)

- Researchers on 4546B sent enough data back to Filament

- instead of dying stars it's dying people and it started with Eden and Coi after bringing an unknown sample aboard

- These stations cannot return to earth as they are contaminated (no further stations are made after this)

- The Last tree is dying

- Backstory: Simon and his “Brothers” sabotaged Filament Station which were ahead of the other stations in research for the cure. (Eden doesn't believe in a cure because it's the will of god or something)

- Simon didn't know the goal was to sabotage Filament like that

- Filament tried to land in 4546B where they had been researching

- Filament was shot down by the automated defense system.

- He feels responsible

- He in a way helped them, but it was only because he thought they were just after the food and water storage to help eden not starve.

- While on 4546B Simon tries to send a distress somehow using a former research station on land.

- COI tow ship arrives

- COI is shot down

- COI has sub

- Simon “saved” but used to explore Oceans. However Simon agrees because he feels guilty and can pilot

- SM-8 was a former research Sub with critical data on it

- Simon is sent in a sub after said data

- Events not quite like Iron Lung, but a small reflection of it

- Blood Ocean is a biome anomaly on 4546B

- Elli is an unknown new Leviathan species (Blood Eel Leviathan for now) which can communicate telepathically (similar to sea emperor leviathan)

- Simon loses arm to Elli

- While on sub he does start to contract Kharaa, but instead of spreading and making him ill, it causes mutations instead. (Somewhat of an immunity because of this)

- Elli doesn't necessarily die, but Simon does get away.

- Ava against crew advice ventured too far and got eaten by ghost leviathan (maybe)

Random things from my brain:

- Grace is absolutely enamored by cuddlefish

- Grace definitely almost got hypnotized by a mesmer only for Simon to pull him out of it last second (or does he? >:3)

- Blood kelp biome causes ptsd to arise for Simon (not where Elli is)

- Grace is greeted by a rock creature inside glass-like ball on land who communicates in gestures, chirps, trills and worbles, his scanners pick the glass-like material up as xeon...that can't be right

- Grace takes a while to get the hang of the sea moth, but with him and Simon it's a tight squeeze

Debating on leaving Rocky as an Eridian cause he would probably sink and that's really not ideal. Could still not see except through vibrations and have excellent hearing though. I bet the ocean is extra loud to him. Especially the Reefback leviathan.

Also been a hot while since I've played the first game and I have yet to play/look at the second one which is in early access.

so today a public health official guy came into my class to give a lecture on disaster awareness and he was talking about house fires and mentioned that the reason people most likely die during a house fire is because they refuse to leave their pet inside or they go back to get their pet. and right when he said this my friend immediately turned his head and looked at me and in that moment I had the most complete and genuine acceptance take over my body. I would 100% in front of my family and Jesus himself walk straight back into some raging inferno that was once my house to go get my fat cat. I nodded back

If you are a person who would walk into a blazing inferno for your animal, and your pet has free movement around the house, here’s a training exercise that could help save you both:

1) Set off your smoke alarm or play the sound on your phone (if your home has no smoke alarms, pease get some!)

2) stand BY THE FRONT DOOR to hand out treats

Do this a couple times and then keep it up NO EXCEPTIONS. Accidentally set the alarm off cooking? Treats by the door. Smoke alarm sound on TV? Treats by the door. Changing your smoke alarm batteries twice a year like you’re supposed to? Give them a test run and your pets get treats by the door.

Most dogs and cats will clue in VERY quickly that hearing that specific sound means go to the front door and wait for treats.

If there’s an emergency and even if you leave by another way, you will still know the most likely place your pet(s) is and can direct first responders to help.

You can also do this for any other kind of emergency alarm. My friend had both her cats trained to go to the front door for a tsunami siren.

Cannot stress enough how important this movie actually is. This is an independent film that succeeded and it's a path maker for future independent films. I love PHM and the stories, aus and ships between the films, but Iron Lung absolutely deserves all of its recognition. I too want to see more about the lore. I also feel it's insulting to ask a movie producer questions about a different movie and fan headcanons of a cross ship. This started as a crack ship and it's mean to just be fun. Please leave Mark alone with the shipping even if he has acknowledged it.

my mom is in fact aware that dandelions exist. she temporarily forgot the name and there was some miscommunication.

the truth is actually weirder

she’s aware dandelions look like this

she is familiar with this flower. she knows the name of this flower. she declines to believe, however, that these are also dandelions

she does not believe these are the same plant. I tried to explain, and she thought I was either misinformed or lying. so I asked her what exactly did she think the yellow ones were called?

she answered, with complete confidence: Daffodils.

imo there’s correct identifications of dandelions, daffodils, easter lilies and marigolds in this thread, but buttercups are simply impossible to agree on and the only solution is for everyone to post pictures of their local buttercups

Inspired by @ctrl-shift-alt-9 's headcanon about Simon mining asteroids as a convict I decided to headcanon a design for a four convict mining unit. I'm not the most comfortable in photobash but it really felt like the perfect medium for this one.

Portable mining units

As I envision it this MS's would be a small part of C.O.I's mining operation. Leaving prisoners inside mostly on their own for better or for worse, with not much guard oversight in terms of rationing or behaviour, the shittiness of the circumstance would depend mostly on who you are stuck with. And considering the relative autonomy, being considered for MS work would be the kind of thing you get for good behaviour.

Otherwise you just get to work in the bigger supervised mine or the refineries (which I might also concept out later).

(Also I would consider it funny that the C.O.I owns both an SM and an MS 13 and both had the same unlucky convict inside at some point.)

More headcanons

- The mining stations are all equipped with a radio that is supposed to only serve as communication with nearby tow ships, but there is a way to jail break/jerry rig them into taking external signals. The convicts that can do that are valuable in prison society. The jail broken communicators are mostly used to listine in on passing vessels, or sometimes even far away eden scavenger transmissions or something like it. If a mining operation is all made out of previous eden brothers, that is most likely what they do in their free time.

- a sub headcanon to this is an actual pirate radio station in the iron lung universe, but I think I'll make a separate post for that.

-All the mining suits are numbered, and since Korean culture might have survived in space I think number 4 is still considered unlucky. Simon always gets the number 4 suit

-The crews are usually chosen at random but you can cash in favours to be with the same people twice in a row, I wouldn't say it's common, but there are reoccurring crews that are somehow bonded on these missions (I don't think a cosmic misery universe is complete without a little bit of hope)
