always thought that it was crazy other folks with adhd couldn't focus on podcasts when i was totally immune from that issue then quarantine happened, i stopped driving long distances every day, and you will never fucking believe what I learned I can't do

The term mags, that he used earlier is not in reference to weapon ammo magazines, but as in "magnetic weapons detectors". He wanted anyone to be able to enter with both weapons and ammo.
Really wish we could go back to a time when movies were worth something as long as they were fun to watch
Like I mentioned the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot (the all-female one) to someone bc i had a lot of fun watching that movie!! And they were like āthat movie wasnāt that good it was just a comedyā¦ It didnāt win anything did it?ā like bitch ā¦. The first Ghostbusters movie wasnāt fucking good either but Iām still sitting here watching some dudes chase a ghost through a library to some weird synth music so maybe movies donāt have to win awards to be worth watching

Like. These are two VERY different questions. I know my bff from high school is obsessed with the star wars prequels like SHE KNOWS THEY AINT GOOD. I asked my roommate the first question and they were like āfuck dude I just love Mrs doubtfire.ā Like yeah youāre not gonna be telling every person you meet to watch Mrs doubtfire! But itās okay if itās a movie you like some movies are FUN

Whenever this photo turns up I remember that all the Joshes came and fought and then they made that little Josh's entire life by declaring him the winner and I get a little choked up.

so thereās this strange idea we seem to have in the back of our collective mind now that detailed/decorated = childish?
(I agree, though, with the take in the notes that itās less because we have nothing to say and more because a blank and unremarkable slate is easier to put up quickly and wipe clean as needed for Runaway Capitalism Purposes)
It also creates such an oppressive visual monoculture. A shopping centre in Kansas City looks the same as one in Karachi. It creates a uniform definition of what āmodernā looks like that excludes the possibility of any other style being anything but rustic, old-fashioned, or even ābackwards.ā
Modernist minimalism is barely even an aesthetic choice anymore: itās the absence of a statement.
The most interesting thing about this take is the one statement, among many that strongly resonate that I donāt necessarily agree with:
āIt presents a neutral clean slate, which imposes nothing.ā
Having studied hypermodernity, and the strange way in which built environments no longer have a specific aesthetic which reflects their purpose, I feel incredibly imposed upon by minimalism. I find it suffocating.
A blank, white room with all-white furniture lacking any kind of detail literally hurts my brain, which yearns for pattern, colour, and texture to stop itself constantly spiraling into self-destructive states of overthinking. I donāt know if its a neurodivergent thing, but minimalism feels like an attack on all that I hold dear, and not just because I kind of associate it with all those early 00s sci-fi shows where the worst psychological torture scenes usually occurred in bare spaces with lots of textureless stainless steel fittings and bright strip-lights, it imposes a specific type of conformity which implies there could ever be a favoured pan-cultural aesthetic that works for everyone. Which, in a world of seven billion people who all respond differently to pattern, colour, texture, shape, and tone, is, of course, nonsense. Ā

As a Jewish person I ask- where is religious freedom for non-Christians in this new post-Roe era? Judaism tells us that our bodies are sacred and that life begins at birth. It tells us that a person should choose their own life when a pregnancy is endangering them. Some of us even believe that in life-endangering circumstances, abortion is mandatory in order to save the parent's life. About 83% of American Jews support abortion being legal in all/most cases, more than any other religious group. Judaism tells us that we need to do everything we can in order to preserve our own lives.
Where's OUR religious freedom? Does the US Supreme Court truly value religious freedom, or just Christian freedom?
