Starbucks missed a huge marketing opportunity.

While everyone was making an unnecessary big deal about the plain red Starbucks cup, the company could have used the buzz to their advantage.

Starbucks cup art is a thing. They could have posed the red cup as a canvas for people to express what this time of year means to them. Instead of having people be upset about making the cup not being about Christmas, it turns into a way to individualize their experience with the company.
