so. i just learned that my entirely me-written resume flags as being AI-written by automated HR systems for a few writing quirks and the fact that i followed all the rules of good resume writing, which is apparently a telltale sign of AI use in this fucking hellworld. i've been desperately applying to jobs that i am massively overqualified for for months with no response, not even an interview, and now i find out that at least part of the reason is because some fucking moron decided that following the rules every career advisor has given me for a decade means i cheated and should be disqualified. the ai bubble cannot pop soon enough. what the actual fuck.

Because while I understand on some level that his gut instinct to worship the people he loves comes from having a mother who died tragically young and beloved, literally and figuratively beyond reproach, I imagine some of that could be learned from the parent who’s still around. yes. or rather ilya is treating his mother the same way his father did, ilya just never saw his father and mother together in the lovebombing first few years before things got bad, and also his mother died before he could bring her down from the pedestal. ilya recalls that grigori seemed to hate irina, but also was incredibly possessive and jealous, and was convinced that irina was cheating and was going to leave him—which is ilya’s exact insecurity, that he isn’t good enough and his partner will see his rotten heart and leave him. hockey is just shane’s “other man” in this situation.

and what prompts ilya to violence is exactly what prompted his father to violence, the implication that it’s true, that shane DOES love someone else (hockey) more than him, that shane IS going to leave. ilya reacts so strongly because he had to detach himself from a specific part of himself to survive, the part who is a very traumatized child that found his mother’s body. and suddenly the really traumatized part’s beliefs are proven correct, which is that he is bad and so people will leave him. and to a child being left alone is a death sentence, children can’t survive on their own. so suddenly ilya’s in full on fight-or-flight, because in a roundabout way, this thing that’s happening IS lifethreatening, at least to the exiled child part which has seized control of the vehicle.

In all seriousness, the first step is to start noticing when it comes and naming it. Then start challenging it after it comes up. Be relentless. You don't want to keep feeling like that. It will try to convince you that you do. That it's safe. That it protects you from disappointing others by beating them to it. That's a lie. Hear those lies, and - this is crucial - recognize the part of you that is feeling vulnerable and tell them that new ways of being are scary and it's okay to be scared, but that feeling shame is causing more harm than good. Then continue challenging. Eventually the challenging will get closer and closer to the feeling of shame. Eventually the good thoughts will outpaced the bad thoughts. Eventually you'll stop and look at yourself and think about when you used to go down shame spirals and how you don't really anymore. Then you'll hit a shame spiral and it will compound upon itself because the Shane wants you to feel bad for failing. But you're not failing. Healing is never linear. Remember that, and take a few deep breaths. Write down the shameful thoughts and challenge them one by one until the spiral's run its course. You've got this. I know you do.

As a child Ilya did’t talk much. He was a very quiet kid. He observed the world with his sharp blue eyes, noticing things that others normally overlooked. But he stayed quiet.

Shane on the other hand talked a mile a minute. He was always babbling and bubbling about one thing or another. He was a yapper.

As they got older, Ilya realised that it’s simpler to hide in the spot light and that it’s easier to get away with things when he’s loud. It’s whole another kind of invisibility, hiding in plain sight, everyone sees him, believes they know him, but they only know the parts he allows them to see.

Shane became quiet. He figured out that people didn’t want to listen. He understood people find him more likabke when he’s quiet. So he keeps his thoughts to himself, doesn’t talk, doesn’t make people uncomfortable by having too much information to share and not knowing when to shut up.

Fast forward to the cottage. They’re sitting on the couch, Shane’s legs in Ilya’s lap as he waves in arms around, talking excitedly about something. And Ilya, Ilya just listens. He doesn’t interrupt him, doesn’t tell him to stop talking. He enjoys not having to be the one talking for once, actually. There’s a small smile dancing across his lips as he listens to his boyfriend (boyfriend!!!) yap about beavers, their importance for the ecosystem and how they became the national animal of Canada.

It’s a beautiful day.

so this guy right he makes ancient egyptian themed furry costumes. he makes all kinds but mostly he specializes in Horus heads. it's his passion really. he loves to make the beautiful falcon head of the Sun God. anyway so he's at a con one day and he sees this whole bunch of people in middle kingdom dress with these indistinguishable animal heads. he's like. oh man these folks could really use a new source, i can hardly tell what animal those are! so he goes over and he says "hey guys! i see you are into ancient egyptian mythological themed furry costumes--if any of you are interested in being the radiant Son of Ra, I am the BEST in the business!"
