Intro to the Leiverse

* Hey hey! My name is  Lei and welcome to my blog!! 😊

* I have no clue what this blog will be dedicated to but just know I am in multiple fandoms

* I am also a person who has a lot to say about fandom (when referring to fandom I mean fandom culture as a whole—everyone who participates in fandoms) so I will be posting my opinions on various topics.

* Here is a more in-depth introduction to me. My name is Lei (as previously stated) and I’m currently in undergrad pursuing a degree in Sports Media (we love baddies in sports journalism) and I’m a multi-fandom.

* Also here are some fun facts about me: - Been a K-pop fan since 2019 (before the great shift smh) - Been watching anime since I learned how to walk (my father is a huge Dragon Ball Z fan—that was the first anime I watched as a child) - I’ve only had Tumblr for a few months (not too much on me, I never thought I needed it—until now) - I’ve only had A03 since Sept. 2025 (I was here for beta at least. I also thought I didn’t need it...now I do) - I’ve been in fandom since 2012 (I was 6 yrs old) I just wasn’t on the internet like that fr until 2020 when I got my first phone. I had a kindle fire the whole time lol) - I was in the Sonic the Hedgehog fandom in like 2016-18 (my siblings and I would play the games and watch all the shows) but personally that fandom is odd especially around 2016-18. Fav. show is Sonic X and Sonic Underground tho.

Lei the Kpop fan pt.2

This post will be about all the groups I found out about in 2019. As you know I’ve been a K-pop fan for many years, and if you want to know about how I discovered the K-pop genre you can click here. Now that we have that out of the way let’s get started!!!!

Group: BTS (ult group)

Bias(es): Namjoon and Taehyung (RM and V if you are new ARMY)

The 1st K-pop group I discovered

Favorite album: Treasure EP. Fin.: All to Action (the black and gold one)

Mingi is one of my favorite K-pop boys ever I don’t play about him at all. Ateez who? No, it’s Mingi and Dem Boyz.

My sister—who despises K-pop—loved their dance video to Pick it Up by Famous Dex and ASAP Rocky

I don’t know the album names (they are too long to remember honestly), so I just describe the colors of the album( I had to look up the black and gold’s album name because I couldn’t just put “the black and gold one” lol).

Bias(es): Huening Kai (my son)

Top 5 songs: Fairy of Shampoo, New Rules, Crown, Poppin Star, and Angel vs Devil.

Favorite album: The Dream Chapter Eternity

MOAs are the CHILLEST fandom ever, they really give a break from the craziness of ARMYs and NCTzens lmao.

I like the album The Dream Chapter: Eternity because of the songs, but  the concept. The album gives Alice and Wonderland and Grimms Brother’s stories.

One of their Japanese songs are in a anime opening!!

Group: Monsta X

Bias(es): N/A

Top 5 songs: Beautiful, Nobody Else, Night View, Oi, and Who do you love (without French Montana)

Favorite album: Fatal Love

The song Fantasia roams free in my head lmaoo

I feel so old describing this group to Newgen because they weren’t there when Monsta X was THAT GROUP.

I never understood the beef between ARMY and EXOls, both groups are legendary like let’s be friends

Yaya is my favorite song with a sample, Dem Jointz toree because SWV has a incredible discography.

I like to think EXO’s music is for the mature ears lmaooo

Lei the Kpop fan

If you look at my pinned post (here), you'll see that I've mentioned being a K-pop fan. Being a K-pop fan has its benefits and downfalls, but this is not about the pros and cons of being a K-pop fan-- though it may be a good topic to blog about-- today I'll be talking about how I fell in the K-pop rabbit hole ( that I'm still in) as a Soulaani girl.

Now you're probably wondering what my ethnicity has to do with me becoming a K-pop fan, but I promise it is relevant to my experience. In my culture, my people tend to focus on the genres popular in the United States, mainly because we created them, so Korean music is not on our radar. When it comes to my personal experience with music, I listen to all the genres my culture created but on one mid-summer day I found out about K-pop music.

I was attending a summer camp on the upper west side of my hometown, and I created a friendship with a girl around my age. One day we were sitting together on the bus headed to the swimming pool watching the Boy with Love by BTS dance practice video. I never knew about this group but as the song was playing I thought “This is fire,” later that day I looked up the music video on YouTube (on my comically large Motorola—my pubescent hands had no business carrying that) and I’ve been hooked ever since.

My family was confused with this new fascination of mine as I mentioned before, Soulaanis don’t really know anything about Asian music. They would make comments like “ They all look the same,” (first of all that is sooo judgmental😭), “They all look like girls,”(I was really confused with this one because they obviously looked like men🧐…whatever), “Why do you like those Chinese boys,” ( umm… they’re Korean??), or “So you gon’ marry a Korean man?” (my interest in K-pop does not dictate who I date). I was isolated in my family when it came to my music taste, but I didn’t care I was free and happy.

While listening to BTS I discovered a plethora of other K-pop groups like Ateez, NCT127, TXT, and EXO. On Pandora I had an extensive playlist of K-pop songs I would listen to along with my culture’s music. In 2020 (the best year for K-pop imo) I became a super fan of K-pop starting with the release of Map of the Soul:7 by BTS. Fun fact about me Map of the Soul: 7 by BTS came out on my fourteenth birthday, and one of my friends gifted me the album (specifically version 3 of the album). After that the quarantine happened and I was able to dive deep into the K-pop scene discovering groups like Astro, ACE, Dreamcatcher, P1Harmony, SF9, Seventeen, VIXX, Pentagon, and Oneus.

Six to seven (no pun intended😂) years later K-pop is still a part of my music and is a pillar of music taste. My K-pop playlists got me through high school and is currently getting me through undergrad. I also learned a lot about Korean culture and Asian culture in general, because of this I will always be in Asian people’s business ( I rock with y’all fr, unless if you are anti-black).

Anyways let’s get into the fun part about this post, my ult groups, biases in each group, top 5 favorite songs and additional comments about each group. That would be a two-part post, categorized by K-pop groups I discovered in 2019 and K-pop groups I discovered in 2020.  Part one coming soon💕
