Check out the bottom paper. Jack’s escape from the Refuge was front-page news, with Theodore Roosevelt prominently named in connection with the disappearance. And only Snyder cares about getting him back?

Until noticing this, I always thought that Jack’s escape must have been covered up, since it would be embarrassing for Snyder to have a kid disappear under his watch. The fact that Theodore Roosevelt “unwittingly aided” the escape would invite an extra level of scrutiny … a public analysis of the Refuge methods of supervision, at minimum. And Roosevelt wouldn’t have taken any interest in whether the kid who escaped on his carriage was returned to the Refuge or not? Theodore Roosevelt was the former New York City police commissioner … he wouldn’t have gotten a detective on the case?

There was no one from Jack’s pre-Refuge life who recognized him as Francis Sullivan and knew he was on the run? No one who hoped that there might be a reward for turning him in?

So. Many. Questions. What the hell, Newsies?

On the other hand, the prop people did a great job with the two newspapers … the older one is just a tiny bit yellowed, in comparison to the recently-printed strike edition. A tiny detail, but really cool.

Newsies Tag

Tbh, I always get super confused and frustrated when looking through the Newsies tag on tumblr. Namely because its sometimes hard to tell the difference between people referring to Movieverse or Broadwayverse. The usual key points of recognizing the Broadwayverse are

1) Jack Kelly with the Sketching 2) Any mention of Katherine whatsoever.

Mainly because Jack does not sketch in the movie, and Katherine does not exist.

But other than that, I can never tell which one is which.

Reasons Why Jack Kelly is Not a “Cocky Little Sonofa”

He genuinely loves his newsies family. He loves them. They are his brothers, some of them his children

Again, big brother jack, little brother crutchie 

Takes in Davey and Les immediately

He’s actually crying during Santa Fe (he feels useless, at fault, exhausted)

He’s nearly always feeling guilty over SOMETHING that happened to a newsie (crutchie!)

He’s Ready To Cry ™ 24/7

He fears Katherine is just toying with his emotions and forces himself to ask if she is because he has been played with before

Refuses to take Medda’s money for his backdrops

Runs for his life upon seeing Snyder in Pulitzer’s office because he fears that man and the Refuge so much

Almost stops working towards better pay because Crutchie got hurt and It’s All His Fault

Is not happy-go-lucky and charismatic all the time, more often he is worried about his friends and their health and futures. Also, he does not always like himself.

Keeps his drawings private because he a) doesn’t think they’re great and b)has nothing else to keep private

Crutchie for the character headcanons?

(so this has been in my inbox FOREVER and I don’t remember which headcanon thing it was for so I’m just going to pick a random one and do some from there. Sorry!)

☾ - sleep headcanon : Crutchie sleeps curled up in a little ball, usually with his arms wrapped around the sheets or pillow. He’s one of those people who can fall asleep within minutes once they’re in bed and hardly ever wakes up during the night (except if he’s having an awful dream).

♦ - quirks/hobbies headcanon : When he’s nervous/anxious, Crutchie will either tap his crutch against something or bite at his fingernails. He likes to think that he’s good at hiding these little quirks when people are around but his friends have caught onto them quickly and that’s how they are able to tell he’s not quite feeling himself. 

▼ - childhood headcanon : The only thing he really remembers about his childhood is a lot of pain and time spent in bed. He isn’t quite for sure why he can’t remember more of it though Jack has his sneaking suspicion that he has somehow managed to block out all the awful memories. 

ൠ - random headcanon : Crutchie LOVES fall time. It’s not too hot or cold, just the perfect mix of in between. He loves the way the leaves change colors, the sounds of crunchy leaves beneath his crutch, the smell that comes with the season, and all the fall time food/drinks he can get his hands on.
