It's such a pain to keep up with new magic with how fast it changes. It has no proper foundation uniting it. Just a bunch of isolated islands that collapse like a sandbar in a storm once it's designer moves on.

if your necromancer is digging that is NOT cute. they only exhume bodies when they're extremely stressed. a proper well-enriched necromancer is provided with enemies to kill and reanimate on a regular basis and will make their enemies claw out their own graves as a play behavior.

alternatively you might have a mad scientist that was sold as a necromancer. this is sadly very common but the two breeds actually have very different habitat requirements

Constant reanimation is a lack of enrichment issue. Are their minions being destroyed? Has their lair been plundered? Is their a rival necromancer that they feel the need to do territorial displays for?

It should be raised, not quite on a pedestal but at least an end table or shelf. It also shouldn't be facing the corner but facing out. I'd also add some art to it's sides. It could be anatomical art but it doesn't have to.

Also, consider. A magical version of the bends. Whenever someone from a non- or low-magical land has to go into a very magic rich forest or land or dimension, having to take breaks to let their bodies adjust to the new magic exposure or else their blood will boil in their veins or they'll Transform

I've played around with the idea of magic as radiation causing mutation but I've never leaned into it being a "pressure", a concentration for sure but now this I'll have to think on.
