Harder to Love has been tentatively renamed to Paper Lens. I'm working to unravel the story, because it's all a bundle of complexity in my head.

This is the story of a naive, hopeless romantic falling into the trap of a deceitful narcissist.

why did I stop posting on here? well my entire google doc where I was writing my character profiles and world building went poof. it’s all gone. I had two kingdoms detailed out down to the geography, religion and history.

isn’t it funny that, as women, we are so drawn to songs about how we are loved for our inner beauty. as though we are so ugly that we need someone to love us regardless.

15 questions: character interview edition

i saw this on my feed from @ddbirb so thought i'd exercise some of those character building skills.

this will be written for Crown Prince Étienne from my current wip (also known as the book that i am working on) 'Crown of Allaesia.'

anyone who comes across this is free to do it too.

1. Are you named after anyone?

"I was born Étiennette, but adopted Étienne from when I was fifteen. In fact, the former leaves a rather foreign weight on the tongue. That said, I was named after one of the former Kings of Allaesia. He was my Great-Great... Great Grandfather... how ever far down the line. It is the most noble name for someone of the Archambault lineage."

2. When was the last time you cried?

"Perhaps... when I was fifteen. You see, the Queen was gravely ill and her body so weak that the our Physician was worried that she might not live to see the dawn. By the blessing of God she is now very much healthy and alive, but her body remains frail."

3. Do you have any kids?

"It is not biologically possible for the Princess and I, for I was born in the body of a woman but possess the soul of... someone who floats somewhere in-between. However, I consider all children of Allaesia my responsibility."

4. Do you use sarcasm?

"When the occasion calls for it."

5. What’s the first thing you notice about people?

He pondered the question for a moment before answering, "It would be very much dependent on who they are. If they are royalty from a neighbouring kingdom, then I believe their attire and stance will tell me much more about what they want from me than any shared conversation. From my people, I generally notice their hands first - it is easy to gauge whether someone is living in comfort or struggle from the state of their fingertips."

"And as for a beautiful lady? Well..." a smirk curved at the corners of his lips, a hint of naughtiness glimmering in his eyes, "... her smile, of course."

6. What’s your eye color?

"Dark blue. The Princess often says that it is reminiscent of Tedia's Royal Jewel, which is very ironic."

7. Scary movies or happy endings?

"Happy endings. There is enough pain and terror in the world. I see how reason to add to that during my leisure time."

8. Any special talents?

With a hint of a smirk on his lips, Étienne couldn't help his cocky response. "I have been told that I am a man of many talents," he started, counting them off his fingers, "I am a skilled rider and have been trained in both swordsmanship and hand-to-hand combat since childhood. I also lead the Knights and believe that I am well educated in what matters - politics and society."

9. Where were you born?

"In the inner palace of Allaesia."

10. What are your hobbies?

"Aside from horse riding and sword practice, I do enjoy drinking with the Knights and, of course, getting to know the ladies... but really, my favourite thing to do is just walk around the Gardens with the Queen. I am thankful that she is still healthy to this day."

11. Have you any pets?

His eyes brightened, "Not exactly, but I do have a white steed whom I love dearly."

12. What sports do you play/have played?

"Though you may tire of me saying this, but horse riding and sparring with the Knights and Marcellus are my main 'sports'."

13. How tall are you?

"I believe that I am an average height - on the taller side for someone born feminine, but shorter than some of the Knights. However, my charisma, presence and strength easily make up for what I lack."

14. Favorite subject in school?

"Politics, easily," he waved his hand, "To be very honest, any really understanding of Mathematics and Sciences have always eluded me. My interest is in how I can protect my Kingdom, and manage the powers around me."

15. Dream job?

"I do not believe there is such thing as a 'dream job' for someone like myself; I was born to be King, and that is what I shall be. As for a dream itself though... I hope that I may one day rule without hiding my true self, and that my people will continue to support me even after that fact."

1. I had a simultaneous kidney and pancreas transplant in 2019- so I have 2 pancreas’s and 3 kidneys. I’m an organ donor as well so extras ! Lol.

2. I can wiggle my nose like a rabbit. 🐰 🤷‍♀️

3. When I’m really tired I get extremely silly and may seem drunk- also I’ve been known to play my* nose on occasion. - don’t ask. 😂

*I weigh a LOT more than you would ever guess. Whenever I go to the doctor, I usually wind up getting reweighed at least once, cuz the doctor thinks the person who weighed me screwed up🤣

*I had one wisdom tooth removed, so--I still have four wisdom teeth. Yep, I had two wisdom teeth grow in side by side, instead of just one😆

I am a universal blood recipient, so I can take O, B, and A blood. Which was super handy when I tried to die. (I've actually tried to die twice, cuz I have an insanely high threshold for pain, and didnt realize either time just how dire the situation was actually becoming. ooops)

only three huh? I get nosebleeds when I'm stressed or angry and it freaks people out.

I still have one of my baby teeth. There isn't an adult tooth coming in behind it, so I'll have that little tooth for the rest of my life if I do a good job of taking my teeth.

I really like using the classic/basic #2 pencil to write anything on paper, but only if it's perfectly sharp and if the eraser isn't worn out. I won't use the pencil if the eraser is worn out, and I end up sharpening my pencils every two minutes when I use them. I don't know why "imperfect pencils" bug me so much, they just do.

I like to collect pretty much everything I can. I have a collection of big leaves, buttons, corks, bones, shiny rocks, walnuts, a bunch of old nails, succulents and cacti, candles, etc.

1 – i have a bad habit of jumping between books, movies and tv shows and very seldom finish what i start.

2 – i like to multi-task and can't work or even do my make up without a video playing in the background. podcasts don't work well for me but oddly enough, i listen to youtube videos more than i watch them

3 – i fixate and become obsessed with things easily, but i have trouble being 'into' more than one thing at a time

author introduction

i'm terrible at writing introduction posts but it feels strange to jump into posting without doing so.

i go by the name kitty (no nickname, but i'll response to kit or cat too) and i'm a writer from australia.

i've been writing since i was in high school but have had a long bout of writer's block due to an incident with my old english tutor - which i might delve into later on. however, my goal this year is to get back into writing short stories and to also work on my first book. it's something that i had been planning for years but never made it beyond a fanfic.

i was a roleplayer for many years but i'm currently on hiatus in the rp community as i try to balance the many changes in my life with the chaos of work. i hope to meet many inspiring writers and wonderful people here on tumblr again.

please reply if you're a writer too as i would love to read your work! my askbox and dms are also always open if anyone would like to make friends.

author diaries (1/?)

i've always had a penchant for writing dark, melancholic stories: tales about the suffering, self-loathing protagonist reaching towards the light for his escape, only to be shut back into the cold, frigid blackness of his own heart.

i don't think that growing up has ever changed that about me.

i don't think it's a fascination with the morbid, but rather a fascination with how human beings are capable of ruining themselves from the inside out.

i'm not as young, naive or as fiery passionate as i used to be as a teenager, but i hold close to me my different experiences with romance – unrequited, manipulative, hurtful, shallow – and also my new love that is warm, honest, kind and joyful.

i wonder whether my new experiences with love with seep themselves into my writing, or if i will continue to write only about people that unwillingly hurt themselves?
