having bounced back and forth re-reading bits of New Spring and continuing my read of Path of Daggers, i do find it fascinating that NS!Moiraine sounds an awful lot like Egwene, albeit in different circumstances. both are young women whose main trait is their determination who clearly idolize Aes Sedai and want to live up to the expectations put before them, but are certainly willing to disobey orders and bend rules to maintain the spirit of the law.

which! is fascinating because of how much Moiraine seems rather apathetic to Aes Sedai and the White Tower in the main series. obviously as we don't often get her pov, i'm having to read into things a bit, but she never has any qualms about letting Nynaeve, Elayne, and Egwene pretend to be Aes Sedai, and even goes as far to treat them as equals despite the Tower's hierarchy. she cooperates with the Wise Ones and seems to respect their own institution while the Tower condemns them all as wilders. she uses balefire, albeit sparingly. she turns a blind eye when Egwene uses the One Power as a weapon against the Shaido. she gives Rand her fealty and seems to truly mean it and believe in him despite every other Aes Sedai either treating Rand as a dangerous monster or twisting themselves to try to get out of the oaths they swore.

and idk, maybe Moiraine was Not Pleased with any of this and was internally screaming the whole time, but she seemed pretty okay with the rule-breaking and defying of custom in a way that no other Aes Sedai, even Siuan, has been. which leads me to wonder what exactly happened to Moiraine in the intervening years to so drastically change her opinion of the Tower? was it just knowing of the Black Ajah that crushed her faith? because Egwene knows all of that and more and it seems to inspire her to cling more to the Tower. does Egwene's position as Amrylin Seat inherently push her to embrace the Tower or would she have bought into this mentality regardless? (also tangent — how am i just noticing the parallel of Moiraine realizing she was going to be pushed to be queen against her will and running away because she feared what power might do to her vs Egwene being appointed Amyrlin Seat and fully embracing the role and all it means even if it was forced on her. and how much guilt does Siuan harbor by both encouraging Moiraine to run while forcing Egwene into this situation in the first place?)

either way, fascinated by two initially very similar characters who take radically different paths.

I forgot to clarify that this excludes deanaming you if you've changed your name. I specifically meant the "brain offers the wrong word" kind of accidental name mix-up.

This was prompted by me and my boyfriend discussing handedness and being able to tell apart left and right. And me, being ambidextrous, was baffled by how do people with an obligate dominant hand mix up which side is the one with their Writing Hand and which one isn't?? And my boyfriend pointed out that I go "turn left - no I mean right" so much when giving directions that I have lost my navigator privileges.

I argued that mixing up the words isn't the same thing as mixing up the directions. Like if your mom accidentally called you the dog's name doesn't mean that she literally can't tell you apart from the dog. And he looked at me like this

Because evidently not only has this never happened to him, he has never heard of this being a thing. And he was so confident in this that I had to double-check that I'm not the only person this has ever happened to.

Rand is absolutely my favorite he looks so sick

Mat's scarf is actually brown but it's fine that was the only fabric I had at hand and I just decided to add it and it makes him 10× better (also his Ashendarei is SOOO SICK I love it much)

I might give them hair. Still deciding, the yarn is really annoying
