UN says nearly half the women in 57 countries lack bodily autonomy, including in decisions over sex with partners.
"The report, titled My Body is My Own (PDF), looked at both women’s power to make their own decisions about their bodies and the extent to which countries’ laws support or interfered with that right.
In the 57 developing countries where data was available, the report found 45 percent of women were not fully empowered to make choices over healthcare, contraception, and whether or not to have sex. There were differences across regions: While 76 percent of women in eastern and southeastern Asian make their own decisions over their bodies, the figure is less than 50 percent in sub-Saharan Africa and in central and south Asia.
In some countries – Mali, Niger and Senegal – more than 90 percent of women are deprived of their bodily autonomy, the report said."
“In terms of laws that constrain women, the report found that 20 countries or territories worldwide have “marry-your-rapist” laws, where a rapist can escape criminal prosecution if he marries the woman or girl he raped, while 43 countries have no legislation addressing the issue of marital rape.
The report also said more than 30 countries across the world restrict women’s right to move around outside the home.
Separately, the UNFPA said despite constitutional guarantees of gender equality in many countries, on average, women enjoy just 75 percent of the legal rights of men.
And only 71 percent of countries guarantee access to overall maternity care, while only 75 percent ensure full, equal access to contraception.”

recently, child prostitution involving japanese nationals in indonesia has become a major issue. the situation has become so serious that the japanese embassy issued a warning. in response to this, on may 28, japanese pornography company SOD Create released a child prostitution themed adult video set in jakarta
though the video itself has seemingly been taken down, the announcement post on twitter is still up, and screenshots of the video's plot have been circulating on social media. the plot involves a japanese man traveling to indonesia to take the virginity of a young female victim of sex trafficking, and the summary directly references the recent incidents of real-life child prostitution
this is not SOD Create's first controversy. earlier this year, they were under fire for releasing an adult video themed around the aftermath of a natural disaster only months before the 15 year anniversary of the 2011 tohoku earthquake & tsunami. last year, they were criticized for releasing an adult video centered on father-child incest & pedophilia that was filmed in a park adjacent to an elementary school. they’ve also faced controversy for releasing an adult video parodying korean dj hwang so-hee’s osaka music circus sexual harassment incident, as well as "lolicon" themed adult videos involving extremely petite women dressed as & presented as children. despite this, they remain one of the largest and most influential japanese pornography production companies, with annual sales in the range of ¥12–15 billion ( US $80–165 million ) and plenty of people defending them
incidents like these highlight the fundamentally exploitative nature of the porn industry. time and time again, major companies have demonstrated a willingness to profit from themes of trafficking, sexual violence, and the abuse of women & girls so long as there is money to be made. an industry built on the commodification of female bodies will inevitably continue pushing these boundaries, because exploitation is not a flaw in the system. rather, it's one of its driving forces
"Mothers are uncelebrated, overworked, and made to endure thankless drudgery" and "Society equates womanhood with motherhood and romanticizes the role of mothers to push women towards domestic confinement" are both true statements about patriarchy by the way

The American century of humiliation is goin great 👍
every time I think of putting political commentary in my art america just pumps out a new all time low shot and i have to wonder if ill ever keep up
about that "male firefighters actively sabotage equipment that female firefighters use"you said... were there documented cases or just something you personally noticed?
This isn’t the article I recalled, but an example anyway:
Morningstar was hired but given a 90-day probationary period; for men it was 30. Then the gear theft and tampering started. Her gloves, hoods, and radio vanished (2007); her mask was sabotaged (two weeks after 9/11). She found what appeared to be semen on her bed (2012). Clothes continued to be stolen and destroyed. Word of the harassment rose all the way to Mayor Don McIlroy, and the department issued a warning against equipment tampering, but nothing substantively changed.
Another:
Her concerns included having her firefighting gear tampered with several times
And another:
Ever since Judy Brewer became America’s first female firefighter 45 years ago, women have been hazed in the fire service, including sabotaged oxygen tanks and glass in their boots.
More:
You’re living twenty-four hours a day in a firehouse and nobody will talk to you. Shit in your boots. Women at the front end of a fire hose and a fire scene and the water gets cut off from her.
I can’t even find the article I had in mind (it was around four or five years ago), but it looks I didn’t need to.
And men wonder why women don’t want to go into male-dominated career fields. 🙄
I love when MRAs are like “women make men do all the hard and dangerous jobs” while the women who do enter those fields have to put up with men trying to kill them
Not to mention that women make up the majority of sweatshop workers, prostitutes, and slaves in the world. Men only do more of the “deadliest” professions because prostitution, sweatshop labor, and human trafficking aren’t catalogued as real jobs nor are they subject to any safety oversight.
Additional source: prostitutes have a higher risk of fatality and violence than the official deadliest profession, which is mining, I believe.
This firefighter thing is so terrifying cos not only are men putting their female colleagues at risk, but also putting the people they’re trying to save at risk of harm and death. Men are so fucking stupid and hateful
I know this is in the realm of personal anecdotes, but last year I went on a date with a girl back in France who had done firefighting training and quit the force afterwards specifically because of shit like this. She explicitly told me that if her place goes up in flames, firefighters will be the last people she calls for help. Which gave me chills.
This problem clearly isn’t restricted to the anglosphere, I’d be interested to hear from other countries if any of you gyns have info on the topic
I would too.
In my area several years back we had a female firefighter who comited suicide because her male co workers treated her like shit. Now i wonder what else they where doing
Adding shit to the rainbow flag until you can barely see the actual rainbow is a great visual metaphor for what's happened to the gay community
Funny how there's nothing ever added to the trans flag
We have a lot of voices on the gender critical side who have done extraordinarily well with bringing attention to how young people with autism and same sex attraction are disproportionately at risk of falling victim to trans medicalization. We rarely hear about how foster kids are disproportionately more likely to identify as trans.
According to the Cass Report, foster kids made up 25 % of gender clinic referrals yet foster kids only make up 0.67% of the general population.
This means foster kids are 37 times more likely to identify as trans than other children.
Foster kids often experience severe trauma, including neglect, abuse, and instability. Trauma can lead to dissociation, identity confusion, and a desire to escape one’s past, which might make some more vulnerable to seeing gender transition as a way to start over.
Foster children run a huge risk of specifically being sexually abused. Either before or after removal from their home. And we know SA alienates people from their bodies.
There's also a lot to be said about the promise of community and love that the trans (and broadly the 'queer') community offers. Friends, popularity, people who love you and all you have to do is have these things in common. Obviously we are aware of the underlying costs and constantly shifting goalposts, but for many kids struggling with feeling out of place or ostracized in their life, the community feels like a heaven-sent solution. It provides identity, a shared enemy, a justification for one's pain, and it provides an in group. This appeals to many kids, especially those struggling socially, which all the aforementioned groups tend to.

queer homophobia: lesbians should have sex with trans women if they use dildos
straight homophobia: lesbians are sex-crazed deviants

straight homophobia: if you like butch lesbians [masculinity], why wouldn’t you just date a man?
queer homophobia: if you like butch lesbians, why wouldn’t you date a trans woman [who is feminine]?
straight homophobia: lesbians recruit minors to be homosexuals and feminists
queer homophobia: lesbians recruit minors to be homosexuals and radical feminists
straight homophobia: butch lesbians are basically men
queer homophobia: butch lesbians are basically men
I dream of putting it on my Instagram all the time lmfao
every male has the capacity to be a trans woman. there is no difference between you sleeping w a male proclaiming he’s a woman and sleeping with a male who’s fine with being a man. there is fundamentally no difference except one saying “i am this”. you’re not a lesbian. a “girlcock” is a penis. period. you’re not having sex with their essence or their mind or their identity. if you like penis, you’re not exclusively same sex attracted. you’re not a lesbian. and with pride month coming up, i don’t wanna see yall “WOO HOO LESBIANS!” talking about a male in a wig
Women are the only minority group that can't talk about their oppressor and oppression without being called "oppressor-centered". You will never see a poc or a LGBT person being called "white-centered" or "straight-centered" for complaining or just talking about about their oppression and oppressors.
i think one of the worst things the left wing internet ever did was push the idea that oppression is basically a virtue, and being oppressed is a sign of your morality. it has made it like…impossible for some of you to hold the idea that most people are privileged in some ways and oppressed in others. AND a lot of you seem to have it in your mind that terrible people cannot be oppressed, and that oppressed people cannot do terrible things, which is a dangerous rhetoric to hold imo.
