not a day goes by that i donât think of this
anyway every time i post about ocd people start tagging the post like "wait this isn't normal?" and i always like to remind people that intrusive thoughts are normal. pretty much everyone experiences them. "what if i jumped off this balcony?" "what if i crashed my car right now for no reason?" "what if i yelled a curse word in the middle of this wedding?" everyone thinks these things from time to time. it's disordered thinking when the distress starts becoming intolerable.
"am i normal" is not as helpful question to ask as "are intrusive thoughts causing me frequent distress?" and "would my life be better if i could find a way to feel less distress/learn to tolerate the distress?"
millions and millions of people have ocd. having ocd is normal. you're normal. but what if you could feel better? what if living everyday in your own mind and body could be tolerable? is that something you want? need? these are questions to ask.
I have a story about being ai addicted that I wanted to share after seeing one of your anons talk about struggling with it. I've been writing fic since I was 10 or 11, and am in my twenties now. When Ai chatbots became a thing I lost myself to it. I told myself it was a good way to explore writing ideas and at my worst I was spending 40+ hours a week chatting with them. My mental health worsened, and I hardly wrote anything that wasn't a reply to a bot.
When I realized I wasn't writing as much and I was too dependent, I then pivoted to using googles Ai notebook features, which are mainly designed for students. Except I would run my writing through and make it generate a completely artificial podcast analyzing my work and giving me advice. It got so bad that I refused to let myself share my work unless the AI gave me enough positive feedback. I now spent basically all my free time talking to chatbots, and any time I needed to do chores or housework I would put on the AI podcast in the background. I was addicted, miserable, and unsurprisingly, hardly writing. I felt like I couldn't, even though I really wanted to.
Anyway, what snapped me out of it was discovering that all your AI interactions can legally be obtained by subpoena in court. I don't anticipate being involved in a lawsuit or other legal issue but it illogically scared me so bad that it gave me the push I needed to quit cold turkey.
I'm now one full year AI-free. I do not use it in any way. I do not chat to bots, I do not run it through anything to generate an analysis. I even turned off the built-in grammarly function on my phone because the integrated AI would change my wording beyond simply fixing grammar mistakes. And most importantly, I'm writing. I'm freely sharing fanfiction, not worrying about a bot's opinions on it. I take inspiration from human made art and I'm much happier.

I wanna address some of the points in the comments etc. because I think it's important to talk about.
"Don't they have to cut down trees (natural shade) to build windmills?" Most windmills are built either off shore (no trees) or on wide open plains where the wind is able to pick up speed. When it is located on farmland it takes up very little ground space and does not require cutting down trees any more than your average town would be in a given year. In some places windmills are located along ridge lines (mountains/hills). These do involve construction, sometimes in forested areas. Some trees are cut down to build the platforms and access road.
Not a question, but related to shade. Solar panels can also provide shade for crops and livestock! Every study I have seen on this has been highly effective! The benefits of shade are real.
"Sheep aren't wildlife." True! But there are probably other animals who use the shade as well.
"But windmills are bad because they kill birds." Windmills do kill birds. This is a fact. Outdoor domesticated cats and all windows on buildings kill more birds. If you protest building windmills for this reason you should protest all buildings with windows. But there is, as always, hope. Windows can be treated in ways that reduce bird collisions and so can windmills. Several ideas such as lights, paint, and sound signals are being tested to reduce bird fatalities from wind turbines.
There is no source of the energy that runs the modern world that has zero impact. Dams effect river ecosystems preventing fish migration, causing sediment buildup, and requires flooding a large area - building windmills disturbs landscapes (forests, deserts, costal ecosystems) during their construction and then do, without modifications, kill birds. Also a single one doesn't do much, you do actually need quite a lot of them to have a big effect and some people don't like how that looks - Solar panels take up a lot of space. There is really no such thing as a baren wasteland on earth where you can build miles and miles of solar panels with zero impact and it doesn't help us to delude yourself into thinking that there is. Co-locating them on farmland in ways that is beneficial is a good strategy. A lot of people hate on rooftop solar for being cost inefficient, but residential solar and battery systems actually can take a lot of stress off a grid and can be coordinated as virtual powerplants. - Nuclear takes up the least space and has the lowest environmental impact in its sighting. A single small nuclear power plant the size of a mall can power an entire city easily. The amount of land you need to cover in solar panels to do the same would upset most people. Peoples' main concern is the risk of a nuclear meltdown, but building new nuclear plants would actually let us finally decommission our old ones and the new ones would be a lot safer. We currently have no realistic option to replace the current nuclear fleet with anything other than natural gas, so think about that if you are staunchly anti-nuclear. The waste is a tractable problem if we were willing to tract it. But the mining of uranium has a big social and environmental impact. So does the mining of cobalt or lithium for solar or batteries or your phone.
Everything has negative impacts, but they have positive impacts too. We still need to transition away from fossil fules. There is no perfect zero harm option. I'm sorry. All we can do is mitigate harm while moving forward and accept that it won't be perfect.

Our rules:
One cat can be nominated with multiple pictures, up to 12; however, for each cat there will be a preliminary round where we vote for the best sleeping pose of that one specific cat. The winner of this preliminary poll proceeds into the tournament.

actually while iâve still got this soapbox stuck to my shoe i also wanna say i think culturally we gotta start conceptualizing physical fitness as a productive hobby rather than an obligation
itâs sort of like clothes. thereâs a baseline level of involvement with clothing necessary to stay safe from the elements and participate in society. having a variety of different clothing isnât *strictly* necessary but pretty tangibly helpful. knowing how to do some minor mending and tailoring is nice. once you get into sewing your own clothes, youâre in hobby territory. if youâre making your own textiles from scratch, that is not only definitely a hobby but not something you can expect other people to want to do
the sort of nonsense fitness influencers get up to is sort of like people showing off their homemade silkworm farm and then pointing at everyone else and going âwhatâs YOUR excuse for wearing a TSHIRT from the STORE???â and actually nvm that would be fucking hilarious. god i wish that was an actual thing can you imagine

writing is a fantastic hobby but the kicker is it's a lot harder to show your friends as it's progressing. with a sketch i can show someone and they'll be like oh that's an apple. you can't do that with words until you get a lot of them down. so i'll just be like damn fuckin. uhh. check this out
