BTW I think that Dr. Phil is among the worst of trash television. There’s no therapy or psychology going on, just Dr. Phil demeaning and “putting people in their place” (often people with mental illnesses) for the spectacle and amusement of audiences. It’s Jerry Springer disguised as therapy and psychology. Fuck him. He’s on the same level of Dr. Oz, who is a quack and a charlatan who should have his medical credentials pulled (same should probably happen to Dr. Phil as well). I respect the Jerry Springer Show much more, at least they’re honest about their trash.
Dr. Phil doesn’t even technically have any credentials anymore: He has a PhD in Clinical Psychology but hasn’t had an actual license to practice as a clinical therapist for like almost 20 years. I think that’s why he can technically get away with what he’s doing, because it’s not “therapy” and such has no actual requirements or regulations to follow
Oh interesting. I wonder if Dr. Oz is the same way? The worst part of it all is I think both are highly intelligent individuals who are experts in their fields. I have a medical degree, but my medical knowledge pales in comparison to Dr. Oz. I have a social studies degree which includes psychology courses but I don’t know much about psychology. So I’m not accusing them of not knowing their fields. I’m accusing them of intentional fraud for the sake of money.
To my knowledge, Dr. Oz is still technically on staff as a Cardiothoracic Surgeon at New York Presbyterian, but he obviously works pretty PRN. I agree it’s a shame, I’ve heard that Oz is actually a pretty good CV Surgeon but he must’ve realized he could make a lot more pushing garbage on TV. Or maybe he actually believes in the stuff he says, who knows, but if one more of my ICU patients tells me that they heard XYZ from him and it’s obviously junk I’m gonna lose it lol
