Gang I am 562 pages into The Hands of the Emperor, a book much beloved on this website and I can see why, but I also feel like the Emperor just turned a man (permanently as far as I can see) into a table and I'm like isn't that?? Blatant murder?? Blatant murder from the benevolent dictator of the world? Because the man was talking shit about his friend? We seem to hold a lot of leftist values in this book but I guess not free speech? I feel like I'm going a little bit insane but the presentation of that murder as like a happy little moment and not state enacted murder by the most powerful man in the world is making me feel genuinely distressed in the context of the rest of the book. What do people think I need to talk to someone who's read it
