âYou canât do what?â, Ty asked hesitantly. His face broke into a concerned frown, as he resorted to sorting through his papers distractedly.
Kit pulled at his hair in frustration, trying to find words for the oceans that seemed to keep him from Ty.
âThisâpretending that weâre okay. That nothing has changed between us in the years we were apart.â
That weâre still Kit and Ty. Two parts of a whole that lost a piece long ago.
Ty swallowed, eyes focused on the clouds that spilled darkly across the sky.
âWhat do you want me to do?â, he asked quietly.
âWhy did you come looking for me?â, Kit demanded, pressing into Tyâs space. His fingers hovered lightly over the collar of Tyâs robes, refusing to draw closer in fear. Ty stood still, staring between them in anticipation.
âWhy now?â, he questioned bitterly. âWhen Iâm finally where I belong.â When Iâve let go of the past.
âI came looking for what was missing.â, Ty said, barely pressing his fingers to Kitâs wrist.
Kitâs words died at the tip of his tongue, fingers tightly drawing back into fists. He shook in disbelief. It couldnât be.
Tyâs fingers now ghosted over his palm, curling, and opening cautiously, almost as if he were unsure of his actions.
âDid you find it?â, he asked slowly, syllables vibrating with the weight of his thoughts.
I didnât mean anything before.
Ty gently smoothed out his palm, pressing their hands together in perfect harmony. Palm against palm, fingertips closed in the symphony of the warmth that traveled through them.
âYes.â, Ty breathed out, hopeful and afraid, eyes trained on their joined hands with an emotion that could only be described as a furtive longing.
âYes.â, Kit murmured.
His words were barely audible in the harsh beating of his heart.
