The fact that the beheading was at the order of a superior, and the solution was to create some sort of monster of disobediance to the letter of the law instead of just lying and saving them adds a certain mythological resonance.

That’s a unique and special characteristic of only these particular cuttlefish! Look at how they use two flaps of tissue like “hind legs,” with little protrusions that even act like TOES! No other cephalopod has those at all, and no other cuttlefish use their outer arms like front legs, either!
These are cephalopods evolving into “quadrupeds!!”
They do this to conserve swimming energy while they hunt, which has worked out so well for them they’re pretty poor swimmers, like a bird on its way to flightlessness.
The stripes flowing down their skin make it difficult for their prey to discern which way they’re walking or how fast. Then the “flamboyant cuttlefish” gets close enough to shoot out the two specialized arms cuttlefish use like a chameleon’s tongue 😀

i have just learned an outlining trick that is SAVING MY LIFE rn and i must share it with the tumblrinas!! apologies if this is the most obvious thing ever, but sorry my mind has blown with how much it's helped me plan out stuff i'm stuck on
in case you don't wanna click a link bc lazy or for some reason reddit won't let you see it (also the formatting on the comment is a little confusing): essentially what you're doing is breaking everything up into big - medium - small. like so:
BIG PLAN (your big issue)
(i'm using death note as an example :))
light needs to kill the FBI agent that is following him and get rid of the other FBI agents that have come to japan.
MEDIUM PLAN (basics of what your character must do)
light needs to:
learn the FBI agent's name so he can write it in the death note
learn the other FBI agents' names so he can write their names in the death note
make sure none of it can be linked to him
SMALL PLAN (what your character has to do to make THOSE things happen)
1 -- 1A) get the FBI agent to reveal his name in some way, it's probably on an ID or something like that
2A) create a situation in which light and the FBI agent need to interact without it being suspicious
2 -- 2A) the FBI agent knows the names of all of his colleagues, get the FBI agent to say or write down those names
3 -- 3A) continue acting as a normal high schooler
EVEN SMALLER PLAN
1Aa) when would an FBI agent show his name on his ID to a civilian? maybe to prove he is who he says he is
1Ab) create a situation where the FBI agent may seem suspicious to others (maybe a hostage situation where he might be seen as an accomplice)
1Ac) light gets to ask the FBI agent for proof that he's not working with the criminal, which is a reasonable ask
and you keep going and going like that! you can go into even smaller and smaller plans until you arrive at a solution that satisfies you or gives you enough to write about. (and of course do your research when you need to!)
