quick PSA: if they are only accepting you if you pass, they are not accepting you. if they are only accepting you if you “tone it down”, they are not accepting you. if they are only accepting you because “well at least you are not one of those xyz”, they are not accepting you. as long as acceptance is conditional, it can always be revoked, and those who state the conditions will maintain their power. do not make yourself any less of you for them.

This is super useful!! I wanted to add a little to this:
The app i used to recover is called HarmLess. You "check in" every day, and it helps you track how many urges you had, if you harmed yourself, and you put in a little journal note if you want to. You also get different app "themes" (color schemes) as rewards for clean streaks, check in days, etc. You also get to see a stopwatch counting upwards so you can look at exactly how long you've been clean and be proud of it :) if you harmed yourself and check that in, it starts the timer over and gives an encouraging quote. i've been using it for a while and i'm two years clean now, so i recommend it :)
anyone else ever wish they could lie down harder? Like, I'm already horizontal, but I need more horizontal. I need to be absorbed by the floor. I think that would fix me
btw if youre young and scared of doing adult things without your parents ive learned that like 90% of the time you can just tell the doctors office or the dmv "haha sorry ive never done this without help before... can you show me how to do this?" the employee will not care. if that means anything to you
like if you pay attention you'll find that a truly alarming amount of people genuinely believe that self harm, in and of itself, not used as leverage against another person, just the act of self harm at base is manipulative. i think about the way that people with no better coping mechanism available to them are treated as inherently abusive, very often by family members or people in other positions of power over them, constantly. it's such an effective way to force people to hide what they're doing and put them in much, much more dangerous situations than they're already in
If scars trigger you becouse you self harm, that's ok. You cannot always control how you feel, but you cannot tell people that them having a visably disabled body is harmful and they must hide it, even if just online with "#tw scars" or "#tw sh". That is a person and they deserve to be treated with respect.
Being told your body existing makes you responsible for others self harm or that your body needs to be censored at all times is dehumanising.
