Profanity filters on single-player games are just so... incredibly performative. They don't 'protect' the player from seeing the word (you have to type it in order to activate the filter), the only thing they do is scold the player.
My favorite solution to people who get offended at the things they themselves typed is a disclaimer on a puzzle page that said "If you type profanity you will see it."
Out: Can you pet the dog?
In: Can you name yourself Fuckface McShitass?
It's really funny and jarring when you encounter a profanity filter in a single-player m-rated grown-up game for adults, but I don't think they even make sense in kid's games. If anything I think "If you tell the computer to call you FuckNugget it will do that" is exactly the sort of obvious, low-stakes 'actions have consequences' lesson that's perfect for kids.
"This impacts nobody but yourself, and even then it does not alter gameplay or the intended experience, however we cannot allow it and you need to know we disapprove of offensive language. Anyway have fun in Gorequest 4: The Tittening."
more games could benefit from brutal legend's profanity filter setting I think
Here's an idea about why kids are so anxious and depressed all the time...the environments kids are in most of the time are very stressful and don't fulfill their needs for play, rest, proper variety of foods, positive social opportunities, and freedom from fear pain punishment etc
Like everyone with any basic understanding of animal welfare knows that if you put an animal in an enclosure that is too crowded, without hiding spots, with no freedom to move around, no ability to avoid harsh and stressful stimuli, and scare it by shouting at it and punishing it, the animal will become stressed and start chewing its own fur off or hurting itself or become sick or unable to eat...
But we expect human children to grow up in these conditions and literally blame them when they develop the exact type of problems that any creature under those conditions would
literally a cartoon bad guy
i like when a piece of media says that an all-powerful character "sees humans as insects" because that really could mean a lot of things. maybe they view us as insignifigant and will squish us under their boot. maybe theyre actually studying and cataloguing us for their thesis paper. maybe theyre campaigning for human protection because we're an important part of their ecosystem. maybe they see a human and go "ew ew ewwwwww someone get the cup and get that FREAK out of my house." .
Me: (watching Project Hail Mary) "Man, Grace and Stratt are really close. I kinda can't tell if I'm supposed to ship them or not. I wonder if they're this weirdly close in the book?"
Every shingle character in Book!Project Hail Mary: "So Grace, are you and Stratt fucking or not?"
Grace: (Balancing Stratt's 6 coffees in one hand and signing off on all her important documents with the other) "I'M JUST HER LEAD SCIENTIST, WHY DO YOU PEOPLE KEEP ASSUMING IT'S SOMETHING WEIRD?!"
i just love all the stories about production on project hail mary. they didn't use a single green/blue screen in the whole film. they built the whole interior of the hail mary. the petrova line scene was done practically by putting infrared lights on a chicken wire cage. rocky's voice was one of the puppeteers because he did such a good job during filming that they couldn't imagine anyone else voicing him. and rocky was a practical puppet/animatronic! sandra huller picked sign of the times as her karaoke song and she asked her daughter if it was still a cool song. i just feel like there was so much love making this film and im obsessed
sometimes the absence is more compelling. let's lack something and then feel its presence forever in the empty space where it should be.
no one says "ive read enough hentai to know where this is going" anymore
because they dont read enough hentai
so they dont know where its going
nobody knows anything anymore.
"oh ryland. only you would cry over a bunch of rocks."
he cant even het it up for the strange and offputting bond with god’s sister
that was their last college try . sexy antagonist lady born yesterday with cursed murder tattoo red string of fate thread not successfully heteroing with our masc leading man? SAD! well there’s always sending him to heaven with the car
Yes, yes! all according to my nefarious plan
the amount of lawsuits these exploited children are going to be filing 20 years from now is going to be crazy and im all for it
working with kids and one of them says “you know you eat 8 spiders a night on average right?” and another goes “no no no those statistics are actually skewed by people who like eat spiders recreationally for fun and stuff” and my head snapped up like a fucking sleeper agent
we have to bring back the erotic thriller. in the 1970s a beautiful man could go to a beautiful italian villa and fuck every member of the family living there and then leave and that was the entire movie. and you could smoke indoors
Re: the last post, the article mentions that some places use clams to test the toxicity of the water. It’s like that in Warsaw- we get our water from the river, and the main water pump has 8 clams that have triggers attached to their shells. If the water gets too toxic, they close, and the triggers shut off the city water supply automatically.
The clams are just better at measuring the water quality than any man-made sensors.

God Bless Our Troops
They hot glued a spring to a clam and gave it full control over the water supply
No of course not, that would be ridiculous.
They hot glued springs to eight clams and gave them collective control over the water supply.
No of course not, hot glue would kill the clams.
The used silicone adhesive to attach springs to eight clams and gave them collective control over the water supply.
