gay men in books today: i have given thought to my sexual orientation, and i have realised i have Gay Feelings for my friend i hang out with. i will confess, and we will kiss.

(not) gay men in classic lit: i drew a portrait of my ideal woman and made love to it and realised only later, delirious, that i drew my childhood best friend i havent spoken to in years and who has consumed my every thought since we were children. he is my brother, my master, my companion, he has reshaped my world and given birth to the man i am today. i marvel at how handsome he is as he boxes shirtless in his yard. we kiss on the mouth and i long for him the rest of my life. // i have committed a heinous crime and and i am plagued with guilt and paranoia and self-loathing and gave myself a delirious fever. i am full of hatred for all mankind and have just thought how i would verbally abuse and spit on anyone who would dare talk to me as i unconsciously walked to my only friend’s house. i havent spoken to him in months and he welcomes me with open arms. he nurses me and spoon-feeds me while im driven half-mad by the blood on my hands, which he does not see.

"Of the many legacies left by the ancient civilizations of southern Mesopotamia, the invention of writing is paramount. At the end of the fourth millennium B.C., written language developed in the region, first as pictographs and then evolving into abstract forms called cuneiform. The pictographs, like the ones on this tablet, are called proto-cuneiform and were drawn in the clay with a pointed implement. Circular impressions alongside the pictographs represented numerical symbols. Cuneiform (meaning wedge-shaped) script was written by pressing a reed pen or stylus with a wedge-shaped tip into a clay tablet. Clay, when dried to a somewhat hardened state, made a fine surface for writing, and when fired the records written on it became permanent.

Early writing was used primarily as a means of recording and storing economic information. This tablet most likely documents grain distributed by a large temple, although the absence of verbs in early texts makes them difficult to interpret with certainty. In addition to the writing that appears on this tablet, the imagery of the cylinder seal, which was incompletely impressed on both faces and the edges of the tablet before it was inscribed, also records information. This seal apparently has not survived. The seal impression depicts a male figure guiding two dogs on a leash and hunting or herding boars in a reed marsh. He is the so-called priest-king, a male figure who can be identified by his dress and pose. Here he appears in his role as the good shepherd who protects flocks from wild predators." (MET)

"came back wrong" what about Came Back Afraid. You used to be brave. Too brave maybe, defying the odds at every turn, a fighter, cocky, playing with fire, first to throw yourself at the enemy. Until one day it all caught up to you. You came back, somehow, but now you know all too intimately how it feels to lose, to die, to be destroyed. She LOVED her son. Her and Achilles had a good relationship.

Did we forget that in the first book of the Iliad she’s pleading with Zeus to side with the Trojans??? For her son??? Did we forget that in the same book, when Agamemnon pissed him off, Achilles was crying to his mother (AKA THETIS)???
