Plant-based milk & calcium
According to the scientific articles that I have read, the healthier plant milk is soy milk and the best calcium source is calcium carbonate.
Why calcium carbonate? Because having X milligrams of calcium in a milk beverage is not enough, thereâs also another important factor: the bioavailability. Bioavailability is the amount that is absorbed by the body. So you may be ingesting 120mg of calcium but, for example, only 75% of it is being absorbed by your body. Calcium bioavailability of calcium carbonate fortified soy milk is equivalent to cow's milk.
Why soy milk? More protein, less saturated fat.
In your idea of a perfect world, no animals would be killed/eaten right? So the entire planet would be surviving on what? How long do you think this world would last like that?
This is a great question. As cool as it would be if everyone decided to go vegan, it wouldnât happen overnight. As more people decide to switch to a humane and compassionate lifestyle, the demand for animal products starts to decline. When this happens, farmers start breeding less animals for consumption.
What effect does this have on the environment?
Less carbon dioxide emission (if one person exchanges eating meat for a vegan diet, theyâll reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1.5 tons per year)
less methane production (chickens, turkeys, pigs, and cows are collectively the largest producer of methane in the U.S.)
less nitrus oxide (the meat, egg, and dairy industries produce 65% of worldwide nitrous oxide emissions)
not to mention that 1 calorie from animal protein requires 11 times as much fossil fuel as one calorie of plant protein
and the diets of meat eaters create 7x the greenhouse emissions as the diets of vegans
nearly half of all water used in the United States goes to raising animals for food. it takes more than 2,400 gallons of water to produce 1 pound of meat (1 pound of wheat requires 25 gallons)
youâd save more water by not eating one pound of meat than you would by not taking a shower for 6 months
raising animals for food uses 30% of the earthâs land mass (thatâs about the same size as Asia! approx. 17 Million sq. miles. to give you another point of reference, the moon has less area than that, at 14.6 million square miles)
more than 260 million acres of U.S. forest have been cleared to create cropland to grow grain to feed farmed animals
Why is raising animals for food so inefficient?
70% of grain and cereals grown in U.S. are fed to farmed animals
it requires 16 pounds of grain to produce 1 pound of meat
What does eating meat have to do with people starving in other countries?
every ounce of water, grain and resources that goes towards an animal who will ultimately be slaughtered is an ounce of water or grain that could have gone to those who so desperately need it. a study published earlier this year in the journal Environmental Research Letters analyzed the worldâs agriculture resource data and found that humans cutting meat from their diets could play a significant role in combating world hunger. According to the researchers, 36 percent of the total calories that come from crops are allocated to farm animal feed, but only 12 percent of those calories actually make it to peopleâs dinner plates. The researchers concluded that if all of the worldâs crops were directly consumed by humans, there would be approximately 70 percent more food available, providing sustenance for an additional 4 billion additional people.
Check out this article, in which the UN is urging a global shift towards a vegan diet -
"A global shift towards a vegan diet is vital to save the world from hunger, fuel poverty and the worst impacts of climate change, a UN report said today.
As the global population surges towards a predicted 9.1 billion people by 2050, western tastes for diets rich in meat and dairy products are unsustainable, says the report from United Nations Environment Programmeâs (UNEP) international panel of sustainable resource management.â
So, in short, if the planet begins to move towards a vegan diet, our planet would last much longer, there would be better food opportunities for people who donât get enough, there would be less damage done to the environment, there would be less disease, and maybe the other sentient beings on this planet will finally be treated with the respect they deserve.
Perfect response.
Yess. IâM GOING VEGAN
Good for u dude :)
awesome
Iâve been vegan for 1 year and 10 months.
I had high levels of cholesterol (LDL) for almost a decade. There were times when I tried my best to reduce it, but to no avail. Then I went vegan, and even without trying, when I did a blood test, I found out that my cholesterol (LDL) was considerably lower! So itâs true, at least for me it was, that being vegan can improve oneâs cholesterol levels.
I'm vegan now
I've been vegan for only 6 months, after being vegetarian for more than 6 years.
The most difficult part of this change is the desserts. Most desserts on restaurants and cafes have dairy. Don't get me wrong. I LOVE vegan cakes and all but, unless I make them at home or I'm at a vegan restaurant/cafe, I can't eat anything. And that's a shame... Also, it was hard for me to stop drinking cow's milk. I loved it. But the animals deserve this. The animals deserve that we stop using them for our own pleasure. Their lives are more important than my breakfast with milk and coffee.

Onions are the only vegetable I know that try to prevent you from eating it through emotional manipulation.
The prove that vegans and vegetarians are wrong when they choose to eat vegetables instead of pigs and cows. The real victims here are the plants.
Poor onions! #vegetablecruelty
Michael Slusher worked as a vivisectionist for many years. He would perform experiments on a wide variety of animals and quite often struggled with the attachment he felt for them. He often tried to convince himself that the research he was doing would be valuable toward science and beneficial. Eventually, wracked with guilt, Slusher quit, became a vegan and wrote a memoir titled, âThey All Had Eyes: Confessions of a Vivisectionist.â In this book, he raises awareness to the moral consequences and brutality of animal testing, something he is now staunchly against. Many people are aware of animal testing but not aware of the amount of pain and terror the animals suffer before finally dying or being killed. In an interview, Slusher said: âOne of the reasons I wrote the book was so that I could confront my demons and hopefully slay them. [ ⊠] It still depresses me greatly that I didnât see what I was doing at the time.â The book contains data which shows how the practise of animal testing is outdated, cruel, and unnecessary. Part of the bookâs proceeds also goes toward Triangle Chance for All, a sanctuary for rescued farm animals.
Like "Respect the fact that I support the torture and subsequent death of hundreds of animals."
Nutritionist [part 2]
So... I went to that so called nutritionist/endocrinologist and heâs a freaking ignorant.
He said that omega-3 isnât important, acted like it was stupid to change my diet to help the animals AND - the most ignorant comment of all (specially for a doctor) - he said that if I went vegan I wouldnât have any source of protein. WHAT. THE. HELL.
He has TWO degrees. One of them is medicine. And heâs still this ignorant?
I swear, I was so pissed off when I left.
Nutritionist
Iâm going to an endocrinologist/nutritionist tomorrow. Hopefully, he will give me the information I need to healthily reduce the amount of diary and eggs in my diet.
âHumans arenât the only ones on the planet. We just act like it.â
Hello! It may sound ignorant but I feel a bit confused about not eating meat. It always felt right for me not to eat it and most of the times I feel grossed out to (even though I can enjoy it but very very rarely). But isn't it normal for human beings to eat meat? I mean, sure we can lead a healthy lifestyle without it too, but I have often heard that eating meat is natural and "normal". I think you can provide me a well-put answer and help me feel less confused. Thank you!
We can just ask ourselves why do we call us âcarnivoresâ if we donât eat meat uncooked and unseasoned or letâs say in itâs natural way, the way how real carnivores eat meat. There is nothing natural in breeding animals so we can pay others to slit their throats, many people will refuse to eat meat if they would have to kill the animals themselves, to take out all the entrails which btw carnivores actually eat them. Also, our entire body is closest to a herbivore rather than to a carnivore.
