Announcement

Hey everyone!

It's been a while~ Hope everyone is doing well and keeping safe and sound.

I just wanted to give a little artistic update. As you may have noticed, I have changed my username here and my tumblr domain name to match. So instead of chuck-the-goon, I now go by Volkarlot.

For a while I've felt quite distant from the name, for a number of reasons; partly because I feel the itch to re-brand a little now that I feel my art skills have slightly improved, but there's also the small reason that the colloquial part of my previous signature/username has a definition that I wish to separate myself from.

I owe my whole artistic history and followers to the identity under that name, and I love every single person that has been part of that journey over the years. So I'm hoping to take you all into a new era of my life and art, without starting completely afresh.

I'll still be tagging my art as chuck-the-goon for a while to save any confusion, but the artist signature will show as 'Volkarlot' instead. And if you have seen any art recently under that name (I've posted a few things on my bluesky under the username Volkarlot) then that is I~ With that, I'll be posting a few pieces I've harboured over the past few months, not a lot, but some that I've been wishing to share for a while.

“I’ve been having these weird thoughts lately…like, is any of this real, or not?”

First of all, I couldn't have made Jack look as gorgeous without @chuck-the-goon 's help. Thank you my guy!

Going to premise this by saying I have two different version/timelines, but the above image is regarding one in particular.

Berk is our Destiny island, with Hiccup as our 'Sora', the soon to be keyblade warrior. Until events play out, he's just one kid amongst a group living on the island, curious about the world beyond their shores.

Toothless is a dragon from another world that Hiccup visits during his journey, and who follows him afterwards (either because they bonded whilst saving his world, or because Toothless' hidden world was destroyed by the Heartless, and has no where else he'd rather be).

Astrid becomes one of his closest friends, who he and Jack promised together to explore the outside world alongside as a trio.

And Jack. Well. This is where my idea divides into two options/timelines.

1) Riku!Jack is Hiccup's childhood friend. His family (the Overlands) are farmers, and usually Jackson ("call me Jack") has to watch their sheep, but he does love to run and play made up games with Hiccup instead.

Hiccup and Jack promise to leave the island together one Summer, putting together a crazy plan to make their own raft, since they couldn't control a larger boat by themselves. Astrid overhears, and refusing to let her two (favourite) idiots do something stupid by themselves, informs she will come with them. And so, with wide grins , they plan.

Not much else to say for this au at this time, besides the fact that Jack goes through similar to what Riku does, whilst Hiccup chases after him.

Jack and Hiccup also make a promise on the star fruit, to always be together.

KH1!Hiccup (about Jack): He’s my best friend!

KH1!Jack (about Hiccup): We were friends, once…

2) Nobody!Jack is the nobody of a dead boy.

Hiccup comes across him in Traverse Town/Hawthorne and looks as though he's seen a ghost. But it can't be. His childhood friend, his best friend, is dead.

Jackson Overland drowned at sea, and Hiccup had not wanted to believe it until an item he gifted his best friend was found amongst the flotsam along Berk's shores. They were only children still, both 14 years old.

And yet here in a whole other world, a boy with his face, his laugh, his crooked smile, lives. His hair is white, his eyes are blue, he is older, but this cannot be anyone other than his Jack.

On Jack's end, he has a blurry memory of his past, but he's been in this town as long as he can remember. And then this weird (cute) guy shows up welding a keyblade, beating up strange creatures, and offering his hand to explore the worlds beyond his own.

He takes it.

Down the line, once Jack learns of his origins, of Jackson Overland, he can't help but wonder if his feelings towards Hiccup are a remnant of his originator's emotions. And if so, is there anything of Jack Frost's that is his alone?

(to add to the heart ache, Jackson Overland most definitely had a crush on Hiccup, but kept it quiet because he saw how his best friend looked at their mutual friend Astrid. This secret followed him to the grave, until Jack remembered him)

HEY SO THE UNBELIEVABLY BRILLIANT, TALENTED @chuck-the-goon DREW A SCENE FROM ONE OF MY SAM/RASHID STORIES AND I’M LOSING MY MIND. I never, ever thought I’d see an artist draw them. That’s not even an exaggeration, holy fuck. @chuck-the-goon, this is just extraordinary? The light and shadow on their skin, their expressions? The earbuds? This is that one scene in “The Quick Ones” when the interview surveillance is just so fucking dull, so—you nailed it. They had to occupy themselves somehow!

Iris’s writing is an incredible gift! It was an absolute pleasure to draw this piece, to draw them! I beg all of you to read their work, indulge as I have done in the glorious-ness that is Sam and Rashid but especially Iris’s rendition of them.
