Thinking about how Q experiences the events of Star Trek. He intervened with Starfleet to help delay their encounter with the Borg, setting up events for Picard to essentially be sacrificed to them later. However brief this sacrifice lasted, it would stay with Picard for the rest of his life, changing him irrevocably.

Do you think Q feels bad? Do you think that's why he's kept such a close eye on Picard all this time? He knows it's his fault---if he hadn't intervened, Picard's life would look so different.

Or had it always gone this way? He knew Picard could handle becoming Borg, so he let it happen.

I guess we'll never know. We're too linear to understand.
