putting on the high vis corset and running in front of cars across a dark country road like a deer
Item: Corset of Visibility
Pair this with a black skirt and boots, and you, too can be a Visigoth.
The above is 100% the joke the commissioner of this corset was going for.
and while we’re at it, fuck this idea that ONE ACCOUNT has to belong uniquely to ONE PERSON. This is the same thing these silicon valley fucks want; their vision of the future where everyone has a unique biometric ID code implanted in their body is the ultimate extension of Netflix’s “no password sharing” policy. You want to use your friend’s car? Sorry, you can’t, you need to be an authorized user. Your mother wants to let you look something up on her OED account? Too bad! That’s only for her! The concept of perfect market efficiency gives them greedy little money bag eyes.
If I pay money to have a newspaper sent to my house, they don’t charge me extra when I show it to my dad. This password sharing thing isn’t just a Netflix problem; don’t be surprised if it shows up elsewhere in other forms. Stamp this idea out now or we’ll be stuck with it.
This is by far the most popular post I have and I have to say: good, I’m right. Password sharing and ID verification are going to kill the internet. not oooh in 50 years. in like 5 more.
I don't want my cellphone to have AI I want it to have 3 days of battery time. I don't want my computer to have AI preinstalled I want it to have seven usb ports and high ram at affordable price. I don't want my games to have AI built levels I want them to be so optimized I could run them on a nokia.
It's Toothless' Birthday (observed)!
10 years ago I met this really sweet black cat while I was walking around the neighborhood. I saw him pounce at a robin (he missed) and crouched down with my hand outstretched to see if he would come sniff me. He stared at me thinking for a couple of seconds, then ran in past my hand, paused briefly to rub his face on my knee, and continued closer to flop at my feet and roll over to show me his belly. After giving him some pets, I got up to continue my walk and he followed me (by walking in front of me) for half a block.
I met him frequently on my walks from then on. I always stopped to pet him and he always followed me. One time I met one of the humans he was living with at the time and was told his name was Toothless.
Seven years ago, there was a black cat walking across the window ledges outside my living room. It seemed to be having some trouble figuring out how to get down, so I went out to help and recognized Toothless. I helped him down and then he would not stop rubbing on my legs, so I sat down with him and he leaned on me to give himself a bath. After a while I walked in the direction of his home and he followed me until we were about a block away, then he took off on his own.
He visited me at my house with increasing regularity after that. Usually I would be out filling the the bird feeders and then turn around to find a cat trying to get my attention with a meow so low and quiet that I hadn't even registered the sound as a cat. I know better than to feed a cat who doesn't belong to you, so I never did that, but I would often give him fresh water because I worried about the possibility of him drinking our of contaminated puddles. and I always gave him plenty of love and pets.
Two years and 10 months ago Toothless showed up on my deck one morning and refused to leave. I could not get him to follow me to his house and he seemed lethargic and appeared to be on the low end of healthy weight for a cat. After about a month of him living on my deck, a post from his owner appeared on the neighborhood Facebook group saying she hadn't seen him in 3 weeks and asking if anyone had. It was the second of those posts within 3 months. My dad replied to the post telling her where he had been and for how long. You would think the response to that reply would have been "Thanks! We'll come get him," but it wasn't. The response was "Well as long as he's safe." We started feeding him that day. And a few weeks later he was allowed in the house for the first time. Legally and morally he became my cat that day, but his former owners didn't consider him so until another year later when they moved away.
In the July before Toothless decided he wanted to live with me, his former owner made a post on Facebook about him being 13 years old at the time. From that and some other tidbits of information we pulled out of her like teeth we estimate that he was born sometime in late June or early July of 2010. We decided to celebrate his birthday on July 1st which means he's 16 years old today.
I made him his own hat because Rocket decided to chew on the hat that I initially made for hem both to share, so that one's just Rocket's now. Where Rocket wanted to knock over and chew on his birthday hat, Toothless just wanted to "hug" and kick it.
The only good picture of Toothless and his hat that I got was the first that I took. The rest are all blurry except for the one below where he pushed it out of frame right as I was taking the picture.
its actually easy to de-enshittify your digital experience all you need to do is install this browser extension and this browser extension and this browser extension and input this custom script into the advanced box and go into your system settings and reconfigure all these options you didnt know existed and change your entire workflow and switch to this alternative operating system and this alternative web browser and this alternative chat client and this alternative word processor and this alternative- sorry that one turned out to be malware delete that one okay now double check your task manager for unwanted background processes and element block these ads and invest in a good VPN and append all your searches with AI blocking keywords and wait a few years until everything you just did becomes shitty too so you can do it all over again okay kitten. its literally that easy.
I am going to go insane.
I get a lot of ads on my phone for the kind of reading app where you have to buy each chapter of a book individually—usually by watching ads. The ads always take the form of the first 2-3 chapters of one of their popular books, almost always a werewolf romance. Which I'm not particularly interested in, but I guess is a popular enough genre that it works to pull people in.
Occasionally, I will find one of the stories interesting enough that I download the app, read that story, and then delete the app. The last 3 times this happened the authors insist on starting each chapter with the line "<character name> POV" because I guess they expect no one has the reading comprehension skills necessary to figure that information out from context clues anymore. It always annoys me, but not enough to DNF the book.
The most recent time it happened and the book I'm currently reading, thankfully, doesn't treat me like I'm incapable of figuring out whose perspective I'm reading from context. I was so happy to finally be reading something "normal"... for about 3 chapters.
By the third chapter, I noticed that the author does not believe in contractions. By the fourth chapter I noticed that the author apparently has a rule that one out of every 3-6 sentences must be written in a very specific format. That format is "<character> <performed an action> [like/in the way] a(n) <varyingly detailed description of character> who <detailed description of the [significance of/motivation for]> <performs said action>."
It's not a normal book. It doesn't doubt my reading comprehension, but it is not a normal book. Why can't any of these things be normal?
I am sort of frustrated about that post I made about Google Gemini giving an AI summary of Tumblr users if you google a URL because it quickly turned into a long post where people started sharing all the things the AI got wrong about them, and I'm not saying it isn't good for a laugh when an AI is wrong, but I feel like people are missing the point. Who cares if the AI offers information about you that's wrong? What's worrying is all the information the AI got right.
That initial accidental google I did of a mutual returned an AI summary that was absolutely correct, and featured information about them that would not have been obvious from a quick perusal of their blog. The first few times I googled myself the AI overview was 100% correct. The version of that post that is circulating is not the one where I shared that the AI gave me someone's real name. I had hoped that it had screwed up and it wasn't their real name after all, but no, I checked with them, and just by googling someone's Tumblr URL, I got their honest to goodness legal name. Do you have any idea how dangerous that is? Like yeah I get that it's fun to go, "Haha, AI bad at collecting information," but that's not the problem. The problem is that sometimes AI good at collecting information, and it can collect a lot more a lot faster than a normal human can, by running multiple searches simultaneously and cross-referencing a lot of different documents all in a few seconds, for a level of snooping that would take a real person hours or even days, if they could do it at all.
That is so dangerous and I need people to be angrier about the fact that Google thinks it's okay to let their AI do this for online users. If you google your legal name and you're not already famous the AI won't say shit. Because that would be creepy and invasive! So why does Google think it's all hunky dory to do it for random internet users?
I just read about research on psychedelics to "treat" ASD and I am so. Fucking. Angry.
Not just at the rhetoric that promotes the eradication of a neurotype. I'm pissed off at the misrepresentation. The claim that was made that autistics have impaired ability to connect concepts beyond the superficial and obvious.
After all the NTs I've seen struggling to keep up with leaps of association and reasoning that come naturally to many autistics, I am secretly unconvinced of such a claim.
Plus the old chestnut about rigidity and lack of neuroplasticity. Do they ever even consider trying to see their claims from the other side? Do they ever stop to wonder how rigid they look to us? Do they not wonder how it is that many autistic/ADHD people pick up new interests with a rapid acquisition of depth that can be mistaken for expertise?
They also need to observe how neurospicy groups interact. How we accommodate each other's differences, adapting our own "rigid" preferences to make each other comfortable. Then compare that to the unwillingness of many NTs to budge a single fucking millimetre.
Yeah. I'm pissed off.
A new flag for the aspec community
Just an idea I had for an aspec flag.
I haven’t really seen a flag that has been widely adopted for the greater aspec community as a whole, and I thought to throw my own hat into the ring because why not.
More about the flag in the break below
Keep reading
[Image description: The flag is quartered in black, green, gray and purple (starting from the upper left and going clockwise). In the middle is a large white four-pointed compass rose. /end description]
I love it!
Works perfectly as an escutcheon as well! Albeit with a non traditional tincture.
Quarterly sable, vert, purpure and cendrée, overall a mullet of four argent.

Also on age verification: I have been on this website since 2011. Unless you think I started blogging at age 2, you KNOW I'm an adult.
#the fact that 'can prove access to an online account at least 12 years old' or even 'account to be verified is itself fully 18 years old'#AREN'T accepted methods of age verification is such a telling sign of what the real purpose of age-gating laws is:#data harvesting and deanonymization and the buildout of state-controllable ways to restrict both content and internet access itself en masse (via @shinelikethunder )

"app" is without a doubt one of the deepest evils of the human race. "hello. would you like to be expected to have a bespoke piece of software for every single Brand you might theoretically interact with in a day" <- statement dreamed up by someone who should be drawn and quartered
"It's better in the app!"
That's embarrassing. Make your website better
You know what's worse?
A lot of apps are actually self contained websites in embedded browsers.
Yes yes i know love is love. But they are still killing CHILDREN. over this.
